Bought this back in September.
Nothing special when I bought it apart from the Recaros.
However it was the spec I was looking for (Manual, 3dr, DBP, Cheaper Tax) plus well priced.

Black headliner fitted.....what a C**T of a job that was!
Also armrest and euro sliding cup holder fitted.
Makes a massive difference to the interior IMO.

Found an annoying water leak in the boot.
Realised it was the rear body vent.
Siliconed and wax oiled the sh*t out of it......no more leak!
Also cleared and treated any rust I could find.

Put some R centre caps on a while ago to replace the white worm VW ones.

And a photo of the RCD 330.
Not the best sounding HU but it looks and works great, well worth the £160 I paid
I also bought a leather repair kit for the steering wheel, gear knob/sleeve and handbrake.
Hard to see from the photos but they all look way better than they.
Steering wheel now has a nice soft feel to it rather than a slippy shiny one.

Welcome to the forum...Good progress so far and also good to see another r32 on here
-
Nice work, did you remove the dreaded foam from the front arch whist the wing was off?
-
Incredible spec :congrats:
New wheels are 100% better!

I removed the foam but stuck it back on as there was no signs of corrosion in that area.
I'm guessing it's fitted for vibration.
I cleaned and rubbed down the arch and wing then coated everything in hamerite underdeal.
The worsed area for corrosion is where the wing meets the sill.
-
Did you buy new alloys and cost if you don't mind me asking
-
Bought them off facebook marketplace from seller changing the wheels on his R32.
Think I paid £420 with decent tyres fitted.
They're not in perfect condition but WAY better than every other set up for sale at the time.
Think I got a good deal though as other good sets were up for nearly £800

Good to see someone having the confidence to strip the body and do proper preventative maintenance
These cars are getting on a bit now so the effort you've put in will surely pay off in a few year's time when this car stands out against the increasing number of tatty ones.
And 3dr DBP... yep. That's the one to have. Good work!
-
Thanks
Still need to do same to the other side but ill wait for the weather to warm up.
It's not work I've attempted before but it definitely needed it.
The arches were replaced 4 years ago by VW but it doesn't look like they did any rust prevention.
I strongly advise anyone to give it a go, my arches and sill were filthy!

Great looking R32 and it really has a great spec. You've done really well so far. Congrats! Keep up the good work! :drinking:

Finally got around to installing a usb and aux cable at the rear of the RCD330.
Was a bit of trial and error but finally got there.
Also decided to wire in a DAB adaptor as the FM reception is a bit poor.
Wired this into the cigarette lighter using the ignition cable.
Digital radio now plays through the AUX under the Media section.
I wasn't sure how good the sound quality would be but WOW it now sounds awesome!
Plus it gives me 63 channels.

That's the usb adaptor I fitted, works great plus you get 2 ports.
I'd also recomend to wire a seperate fuse just incase, around 5A does the job

you going to vw fest harewood house in august!!
-
Unfortunately I'm probably going to be out of the country first couple weeks of August.

Hello there, lovely R32 and amazing spec! Love the all cloth wingbacks! :drinking:
Question about the RCD330, my car is a 1.4 tsi 2008 model so I guess I won't have an issue with battery drain, how was the installation like? Do all the MFSW buttons work? I plan to get it for Android Auto, How is the audio quality compared to the previous unit? My car has the RCD300 headunit.
-
How do you find the RCD330?
I'm looking to upgrade the head unit in my GTI but i've been told to be careful about the battery drain?
Love the R32 colour as well
