Hi everyone. Sorry for the downtime.
As you can see.... we have upgraded the forum to the new version v2.0.8 which should look and feel a little slicker than the old 10 year old forum.
There are several new features on the forum... I will post up again here to outline them, although they are fairly self explanatory.
I would like to take this time to say a massive thanks to member 'dazza' He has spent hours and hours (and hours) helping me get this forum to a place where we are both happy with its operation. You will also notice that he is now part of the Administration team here, and he will be a great help to the running of this forum.
Hope you enjoy.. and any problems just let us know.
Rich
FEATURES....
For Sale Auto Formatting...
If you venture to the Car Parts or Cars for Sale threads and try and write a post you will notice the following.
Filling it in as appropriate. Selecting collection only will remove the Delivery Cost box.
If anything is missed out then the form will not post.
That results in the below being posted.

Hopefully this will make the FS section much clearer and easier to use.

Great job lads,
but i find it was easier on the eyes when looking down through the subject list, before, than now...
:rolleye:
Just took a bit of getting used too, :happy2: really good job, well done !
-
Seems quicker some how :signLOL: I like the trending section
-
@MAT ED30 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=8)
yes it should be
-
Really nice interface graphic style!
I'll modify the 2015 Forum Calendar graphics to match it :happy2:
-
Just a thought....
Hopefully the new forum software doesn't limit the timeframe in which we can edit. I'm thinking about those threads in particular where the original post needs to be updated over a period of time.

....I tried just writing '@username' as I do in another forum but it didn't work here. Is there another way to tag someone?
-
Btw, if the text in posts displays too small by default, just hit 'Command +' (Mac) or the Windows equivalent.

Yes you do. Picture still needs date and username.
-
Well done on the new forum :happy2:
Only thing I am missing is where you can hover over a topic to see a preview of what's in it to quickly determine if it's of interest. Is this something that will be coming back?
-
Awesome work. Great features.
Can't put my finger on it but I am finding it harder to easily read the titles of the threads. Is it just me?
*I think black titles the same as the 2 pinned posts would help. Maybe it's my ageing eyes lol

NO. You're right, I was thinking the same earlier Mike - it's the colour of the post body and post title cells, a quick change there will sort things, I'm more than sure peeps can do this, but I can point out what and where to change it, if required. :happy2:
-
Phew, I'm not going blind haha.
The grey back looks more sleek and up to date, I think the thread titles just need to be fully black.

I'll adjust the background grey and make it lighter tomorrow

Looks fresher and quicker for me as well
the only thing I've noticed so far is the quick links to new post and your posts top right are half covered by the banner on a touch screen ,don't think it was like that before ,maybe the banner needs to be behind the shortcuts ?
Rob
-
The banner used to cut itself down before the update depending on screen size/zoom.
Loving the update a massive improvement that's been a long time coming :happy2:

Sorry can't seem to do that on my pad but if I touch the first two words in the short cuts I highlight the banner and it asks if I want to open in a new window
I'm running android on a HP touch pad so I probably the only one having this as the won't be many of these still around

Right found the Mentions setting and have activated it.
@RedRobin (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=13) - that would be good. How's your camera these days?

Try that mate. There is a 750 millisecond delay when you hover over the thread title. :happy2:
Scrap that... had to remove it due to iPhone annoyance.

Just to let you know in case something needs fixing....
Loading the forum asks me to Log-in although I have ticked the Stay Logged-in box.

Perhaps a conflict with cookies and security settings?

Dazza changed the cookie settings.... hopefully better
@homesqueeze (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=5508) I think dazza has also fixed the hover-preview function too :happy2:

Nice one Dazza!

Dazza appears to spend more time modifying this forum than their car!

@th3_f15t (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=8969) I've been thinking exactly the same thing. I'm supposed to be changing the cam chain and tensioner this week but i keep getting cold feet.
-
You mean Rich messages you about an issue and you think "that'll be a 10 minute fix..." Which turns into days of staring at code to find that one mistyped character. A month passes, you've fixed only a few things and your to do list has grown stupidly long.
A life of I.T.
