Title: Dog Bone Mount Insert - Dash Vibrations - Resolved
Post by: LC5F on October 01, 2020, 09:03:17 pm
Installed a Superpro insert into my rattle free golf, it now has a vibration in the top of dash on passenger side...

So far I have only done approx 30 miles round town, will it quieten down?

Or is it pointing towards issues with the other mounts - with the vibration being on Left side I am thinking main gearbox mount would be a possible culprit.

Is this the round bush for the lower engine mount #4 in picture ?

Mine did not add a lot of vibration.  I also added/replaced #5, #30, #1, #2, on the front with little vibration that settled after a week of driving

Yes - number 4
I used PSB on the front end with no issues - hope this quietens down

Installs urethane mount and wonders why NVH increases.

Urethane has no place on a road car except for gluing the windscreen in.

Actually -
This is the 3rd car I have fully poly bushed the suspension on, and the first I have experienced internal vibration.
I have also partially fitted poly bushes to 3 of my other cars without vibration.

Only vibrations experienced with bushes were:
Ice hockey puck rear engine mount on my Mk3 Valver - works for the front mount, does not work on rear
OEM style Mk4 R32 solid rear control arm bushes - on older Golfs - this vibration dies down after 100 miles of driving.

The poly Dogbone insert appears to be a popular modification on the Mk5 - still wondering if this vibration is normal, or something else worn or even if it will go away after putting some miles on it.

To close this off - 6 months and 4k miles later - it has stopped rattling

I suspect it would have stopped sooner, Lockdown has meant the furthest driven since October is a hand full of 40 mile round trips, otherwise it's just short 3 to 5 mile trips only 4 times a week.
