Very cool. Both items are on my future shopping list! Look forward to hearing how the car has changed after you get them fitted!

Hope it goes well TC.

Oh, while I remember - You might wish to ask the guys fitting the Antilifts what they think about upgrading the bushes on the other side of the wishbone.

So they are going on this Saturday?  Are you doing it yourself?

Keep up TT there going on as we speak.  :innocent:
A good garage is doing the install for me, they have already done the anti-lift kit for some one else.
While i have you what do you think about the suggestion of uprating the bushes on the front wishbone as well i think VW racing mentioned it may also be a good idea to RedRobin but they have not looked into it as yet for him. so whats your thought's.
And in layman's terms can you explain a bit about the rake. i have been asking what effects this has on the car as i was thinking  about leveling the stance up to neutral rather than VW settings which if i am correct slightly negative or what ever the term is. i mentioned it to the chaps who are fitting them and he started sounding a bit like you my eyes started glazing over , he was on about balance going into a corner and weight distribution, but the upshot was it depends what you prefer which is also way over my head.
So advice would be appreciated but be warned i am next to the fire so keep it readable by muppets or i could glaze over again and nod off.  :signIWS:

It's my age . . . .  :embarrassed:

While i have you what do you think about the suggestion of uprating the bushes on the front wishbone as well i think VW racing mentioned it may also be a good idea to RedRobin but they have not looked into it as yet for him. so whats your thought's.

Uprated poly bushes on the leading edge of the lower wishbones (or indeed on any suspension component) are a bit of a grey area.  Yes, they will marginally improve the feel, and generall handling.  However, they are no where near as compliant as the standard rubber bushes.  Poly suspension bushes, which include the WALK, will give more noise through the car, and will create much more harsh "feelings" inside the car.  If you have a wife or kids, or generally enjoy the refinement of the car, I would just stick with the WALK, and leave the front bushes standard.

Just remember that VW Racing are race car or motorsport specialists.  You need someone who knows what works best on the road.

And in layman's terms can you explain a bit about the rake.

Who mentioned "rake"?  Rake is a term used only on motorbikes.! <sigh!>

On cars, or other four (or more) wheeled vehicles, then the only components of front steering & suspension geometery used are:

i have been asking what effects this has on the car as i was thinking  about leveling the stance up to neutral rather than VW settings which if i am correct slightly negative or what ever the term is. i mentioned it to the chaps who are fitting them and he started sounding a bit like you my eyes started glazing over , he was on about balance going into a corner and weight distribution, but the upshot was it depends what you prefer which is also way over my head.

Hmmmmm, sounds like someone is trying to lighten your wallet un-necessarily.  Unless you have a forumla one car, or a BTCC race car, you really shouldn't be hassled by these un-nessecary complications.  Just stick to the standard GTI road car settings, because that is where your car will be used for 99.9999999% of the time.

So advice would be appreciated but be warned i am next to the fire so keep it readable by muppets or i could glaze over again and nod off.  :signIWS:

OI - wake up!

OK i may have missed it in you explanation, but what i meant was the stance as standard sits a couple of centimetres lower at the back. if i lower it say one inch all round then it is still lower at the back than the front,
if i lower it a bit more on the front so the gap on front and back arches are the same, l what negative effects will this have on the braking and balance i am assuming that VW have this slightly leaned back stance for a reason.
sorry for being tupid.  :rolleye:

You mean the arch gaps?  And the fact that front arch gaps are always larger than the rears?

The reason the fronts have a larger gap, is simply to allow them to steer.  Lower the front too much, and you will snag the bodywork when turning corners.

Also, if you lower the front more than the rears, you risk upsetting the brake balance, not to mention making the steering heavier, and possibly smacking a hole in your sump!

10mm extra would be the max difference from standard settings.

OK i am ordering those nifty little jacking points this weekend so i am good to go on testing different set ups i have asked them to not lower it much more than standard i will take my time getting use to it and try a few different things. I have got these to go round corners better looks are secondary but do count a little .
Anyway must dash i have just had the phone call saying the car is ready. Cheers for your help.

....Absolutely true of course about VWR. However, they are very very aware of my wishes for their work on my car to be suitable for fast road use rather than track. For example, they have advised me that KW V2 would be more appropriate for me than V3 and they have also been trying out various spring ratings - All with the aim of road rather than track use. They have gone as far as putting my discussed setup on their demo GTI for me to drive before making final decisions.

Regarding their suggestion of replacing the stock front wishbone bushes, my understanding is that this would better match the bushes integrated in the Anti-lifts - A more equally balanced compliance. I have already driven a GTI highly modified by VWR with V3 and full poly bush kit throughout, and I was surprised how comfortable it was.

But, of course, what feels harsh or too noisy to one person may not be to another - Hence the demo car setup for me, though it's on 19's.

:P  << I love this smilie!! :happy2:

[Good to see you here, Sean]

OK i Only drove it on the motorway and a few roundabouts in the rush hour as well so not much to report yet.
But the anti lift kit is amazing.
The steering instantly felt at least 10 % heavier and the car seems to just stay in a straight line when you take your hands off the wheel its hard to describe but it feels like its being sucked down. the heavier steering is a bonus its in no way uncomfortable just feels more secure.
I was dropping back in traffic at roundabouts then flooring it. I wasn't going mental but i could not get it to hop at all as i exited l the roundabouts,  there was no tc light and no bounce. also i had to modify the line i was taking as each time i came close to catching the curb on the inside. normally i adjust the line to take into account the roll and slight drift. but now i have to turn in later, it was just going exactly were i pointed it. This was clearly noticeable.  If it turns out like it feels its going to, it will be one great mod for the money, i just have to be careful that all this wasn't in my head. and the usual placebo effect.
As for the coilovers i can really only tell you about the ride quality at this stage, it felt a little bit firmer but not as much as i thought it was going to. the noticeable thing though was how quickly it settled after hitting a pot hole or rut one quick dip and it was planted again instantly.
Now the downside to my choice of coilovers. Dampening adjustment is easy peasy  its a one minute job. but height adjustment aint so. the rear coils need to come off the car to adjust them and the front ones you can  only just get a turn on the spanner in the space.
so with this in mind Votex set the back at a perfect height for me and the front looks a bit high but can be altered to suit plus they should settle 5-10 mil over the next couple of days. i took a pic but its not to clear. roll on tomorrow i cant wait.  :driver:

Most definitely bigger brakes i can see myself upside down in a farmers field somewhere soon if i dont.
Then either the works vs-xx wheels, or the R32 rear bumper if i can get it plastic welded into a one piece bumper.   :rolleye:

....What do you mean? - The R32 rear bumper will accommodate any of the exhaust pipe configurations and you just add the appropriate exhaust trim.

The whole bumper comes in 3 parts top, bottom and zorst insert  :chicken:
Forget about the zorst insert. I want to turn the top and bottom into one whole piece, i dont know if this possible yet as the bottom piece sticks out nearly a centimetre more than the top to keep costs down in a bump.

Yes there is more adjustment available on the front but i am liking it like that at the moment no problems encountered at that height so all is good.
There for go not show dont you know.
