Title: Cam follower question

I changed my cam follower at around 14,000K and it doesn’t seem to have any scratches on it? Black costing untouched. Looks new. Is this normal? Cleanest ive jad when changing are scratches all over.

I just find it odd cos usually i get scratches from center out when changing at around 14-15k. This is first ive seen it untouched. Hope its a good sign been using ceratec on every oil change in the past 2 years. Maybe that helped?

There is a slight taper in the cam lobe to force the tappet to spin around, which prevents localised wear spots.   If you don't see the circular wear pattern, either the DLC coating hasn't worn down enough for you to see it - a good thing, or the follower isn't spinning - a bad thing.

Fingers crossed coating hasn’t worn down enough for me to notice anything. Would there be any symptoms if so?

Not in the short term but keep an eye it because if you never see the round wear marks, the cam lobe is wearing down.  Once that happens, you start running into fuel cuts in boost.

Ok. Maybe ina couple thousand miles ill have a peek. But at what distance should it start show wear? I can only imagine checking halfway through interval change
