Title: LED Interior light kit
Post by: El1M1N8OR on September 10, 2020, 10:04:24 am
Hi just posted on another page about LED interior lighting kits before noticing this page.

Can anyone give any advice for a noob to interior LED kits?  Including VCDS issues.

This is the kit I am considering - https://www.lightec-autostyle.co.uk/vw-golfmk5-interior-led-kit

I have recently done the LED swaps.

The only issue I ran in to is the earlier mk5s have a different reading light assembly which has 3 bulbs as opposed to 3. So, depending on your model the kit you get probably won't account for this.

It's a very simple job, no VCDS coding required. The bulbs have polarity so, if they don't work when you first plug them in you need to flip it around and it will should work.

For reference, I bought these tools and LEDs:
Trim removal tools (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4-Pcs-Car-Trim-Removal-Tool-Kit-Panel-Door-Pry-Dash-Interior-Clip-Set/143097264897?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649)
Interior LEDs (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-GOLF-MK5-V-R32-GTI-SDI-TDI-INTERIOR-LIGHT-BULB-KIT-SET-14pc-XENON-PURE-WHITE/182303302091?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649)
Number plate LEDs (I only had to order these due to my reading light assembly being different) (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Caddy-Xenon-White-LED-Number-Plate-License-Light-Bulbs-Upgrade-Kit-239-MK5/182129176433?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649)

Thanks for the reply.

Slightly confused about the highlighed bit.

I have a 2006 K03.  I just fitted a set of red footwell LEDs and they are working fine.  Ideally a kit to do them all.

Did your kit come with the boot light replacement too?

Do you know anything about the LED side lights?

Yeah, I was confused too. If you just look up at your reading lights, you'll see what I mean:

(I have turned the center LED up as that's how it's meant to go I think due to the mirror.)

And, yes it did. The kit I bought replaces every interior bulb (Ceiling lights (Front and back), Vanity lights, Footwell lights, Glove box light, Boot light) and the Number Plate lights.

I haven't replaced my side lights as I don't use them anyway. From what I've seen, it's just a simple swap.
