Yeah so my intention with the MK2 was to keep as an investment and that was in storage however my actual daily is a E30 318is and the head gasket is going on that so I’ve had to replace the MK2 with that (storage wise) so I’ve been left with the MK2 as a daily.

I have no storage for it right now so I’m just going to let it go

Hi All, Sorry this is my first post but guess that'#039s just the way it goes..

Ok so first off I have a 54'#039 MkV GTI with just a slice over 130k on the clock. Other than a aftermarket panel filter, the entire car is stock mechanically.

I have had a squealing noise under load for about 2 months, it started off really infrequently and worked its way up to a point

Does it? That sounds about right!  I was looking at the tacho from the passenger side but next time I drive it, I'll check and confirm.  I did think the gearing was a bit short for a diesel  :grin:

Yes Magnaflow and Borla cats pass MOTs no problem. nbsp Being American, they have to be California compliant......the strictest air quality regulations in the world.

Well done on finding the bolts mate, top man, very useful  :happy2:

No don't touch the main bearings.  You have to drop the crank to do those.  Main bearings never wear as they only deal with very light rotational loads, unlike the rod bearings which have to deal with very severe push-pull loads....especially the upper half.

Do yourself a favour and get a used S3/6R ic off ebay.

I'#039ve been running a 6R ic for years now and the cooling efficiency of them is superb. nbsp Never any more than 10 deg above atmosphere under full throttle conditions. MK5s don'#039t need anything more than that except when doing big turbo conversions, or running a K04 flat out.

How old is the car? nbsp 05 and 06 cars had a problem with excessive end float on the input shaft, which needs shimming. nbsp 07 onwards gearboxes were shimmed at the factory.

The main issue with that is the clutch pedal staying on the floor and difficulty selecting 1st and 2nd gears, but it can also cause noise problems. nbsp If your gears slot in OK and the pedal doesn'#039t stick

The sill had actually rusted through on mine, just by the rear wheel. nbsp Seems a common place for them to go, also on the MK6 as well. nbsp And no doubt the MK7 as VW appear to have done nothing to prevent this problem through the years. nbsp My MK4s went there as well nbsp :grin:

Removing the side skirt isn'#039t too bad but removing the old adhesive is a pain. nbsp Get yourself a toff

hi all, still chasing turbo flutter (as well as small rev hang) on my GTI. I cant figure out what it is... I'#039m now wondering if the solenoid on the DV isn'#039t pulling the DV back when I lift off the throttle and that'#039s what'#039s causing the flutter? its such a pathetic flutter too.. I don'#039t want it

I got a new battery this year due to what appeared to be battery drain issues and odd Haldex errors. I fitted a Vatar N70 (EFB type) and it has been perfect. No more faults or battery drain. A little more expensive that a standard flooded battery, but worth it in my opinion. Al

      Been serviced and tuned at local specialist Maxtreme in Wisbech.

      Cam follower checked ok last service, full service inc fuel air pollen.

      Hi all, Seeing if anyone is interested in my 3 door shadow blue GTI. It is a nice example of a standard car with no rust. I am not in any need to sell however it seems a shame as it has mostly been in storage this year due to other projects so I would let it go to another enthusiast. Details as follows:

      Four Michelin PS4’s fitted on 6th January 2021. Full service carried out on 4th January 2021 including genuine VW cambelt and water pump, oil was replaced with Millers Nanodrive CfS 5w-40 NT+. Both rear brake calipers have been replaced with TRW OEM calipers. PCV and DV have been changed (GFB+ DV fitted). Currently on a private plate and this is not included. Lots of receipts and history with the car and fully stamped service book present. Fitted with full leather including armrest, and RNS510 with Bluetooth phone connection. I have just had the front arch liners out and all wheels off for a clean and seal ready for winter. 99k miles, manual.  £5750. Kent.
