Looks nice, lovely wheels!
-
Nice looking motor that. Welcome dude :happy2:
-
Ver nice looking vw what are the next plans?
scott :happy2:
-
Thanks for the comments. Next on the list is a set of xenons as these reflectors give a poor light output imo. Alot of my driving to and from work is unlit A roads and when the weather is crap they just don't cut it for me.
-
Very nice.
Looks well specced, dont see many with sunroofs
Fitted Xenon's myself and they are without doubt my favorite mod - make the car look more aggresive and are awesome at night!
:happy2:
-
lovely car!
xenons are the biz, would never go back to the old candle lights again!
-
Yeah its quite well spec'd tbh. Was only looking for one that had dual zone and then this popped up so was straight down to have a look at it. Did the deal there and then.
GTsport...have been reading one of your progress threads and saw your from Ripley. Not too far from me. I live in Swadlincote, work in Derby and have a mate that lives in Heanor so know the area.
-
car looks stunning, nice colour :happy2:
-
Right...Its time for a little update seeing. Been upto a few little mods the last couple of months. Getting there slowly though.
Car is currently running winter mode which is slightly annoying as we've had no bloody snow haha.

Latest addition are the door exit warning lights...

I have also retrofitted cruise control...
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMatt.H%2FMK5_Golf_GT_Sport_170%2F7_zps811e13a6.jpg&hash=db8ddc405d47589a47769f42fdc02162101be317)
And a GTI flatbottom MFSW...
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMatt.H%2FMK5_Golf_GT_Sport_170%2F8_zps84f8e586.jpg&hash=9417696b7e0bc17391370f51b3c827f4fc282101)
I also have a set of highline clocks ready to be coded and fittted but that will have to wait until next month now. Also a couple of other bits and pieces to come too :happy2:
-
FBMFSW looks top drawer, very smart. Something I've always wanted but never got round to doing (with the MF).
Like the door touches. This is very OEM+ in general so I like where you're going :happy2:
-
Looking good Matto :happy2:
Can't beat a r32 mfsw & cruise control (not biased at all!)
Like the door lights, very oem+ just the I way I like em! Was that an easy mod to do?!
Those 16" imola's take me back, had them on my first MK5
:happy2:
-
Thanks for the positive feedback so far. The door lights are easy to do yeah. The hardest bit is getting the door cards off without breaking anything.
The imolas I got cheap off ebay as I couldn't find/didn't know what steels to get for winters and my mate has them on his GT so tried one for size and thought they'd do. Plenty of scuffs on them but for winters they're perfect.
Will have another update soon
-
Love the colour, unusual for the Golf and the Ed30 lip looks fantastic with the GT Sport front.
You even managed to find a car Wi the optional 18" wheels which seemed an impossible task when I bought my one.
-
Thanks Raffe. Tbh my only requests when looking for a car was for it to have dual zone climate as i think the "twisty knob" style a step backward from having the climatronic in the mk4. Then this popped up on autrader and was like...thats the one. Had to go to Cardiff to look at it but was worth it.
-
Looking good :happy2:
just the sort of things I would add
-
Nice car there Matto same car as mine except I don't have the roof and mines being a LA7T (Grey)
I'm feeling obliged to show off my car as I've been on here awhile! :signLOL:
-
Looks great, who fitted your wheel? When i changed mine over, i think we have done the bolt up to tightly as everything is lined up but it catch's on the plastic behind the wheel and its doing my head in!!
-
Looking good :happy2:
just the sort of things I would add
Haha...you could have done if you hadn't sold them to me :happy2:

I think you should. Don't think I've seen yours. Get a members ride thread going if you haven't already.

Cheers mate. I fitted the wheel myself. Been on and off a couple of times now. Didn't have and problems with mine. Shouldnt matter how tight the bolt is. The wheel will only go on so far ie upto the shoulder on the shaft. Only thing I didn't do was torque it properly. The threads are very fine and it felt like it was going to strip them so just tightened it to how it felt when removing.
-
Cheers, i think I will take it off again and have another look. I wonder if the plastic cowling behind the steering wheel isnt in the correct position
-
For what it takes to get the cowels off I would.
-
Love the car matey :happy2:
I wanted the 18" charleston alloys on mine but were hard to find
Shadow blue changes so much in different lighting
Xenon's are brill, could never go back to normal lights now.
Keep up the progress
Cheers,
Ben
-
Cheers mate. Yeah they do seem a rare breed. TBH all I was looking for was dual zone climate as the idea of twisty knobs was a step backwards. I like to press buttons and it do it for me :signLOL: This one came up on Autotader and I was like, that's the one.
Yeah the colour looks fantastic in the sun when its clean. Mine currently in desperate need of a wash. Xenon's are on the to do list along with a few others. But in the next month or so it will be to have my highline clocks fitted plus remap and de-dpf'd. :driver:

I do like the dual zone I must admit, it does look cool at night as well, if you've got the fan's on full
The colour pretty much sold it for me, I think its one of if not the best blues out there
Xenon's are well worth it and the difference is massive compared to the normal ones.
I would have thought 170bhp would be quick enough  as mine is only the 140 and I find that pretty nippy but I suppose if you get used to the power you just want more.
Cheers,
Ben

Just a little update. Got round to fitting my Darkside EGR delete today in preparation for Shark stage 2 on Monday. Abit awkward to do but managed ok. It seems it been a little over-active for my liking. My car only has 20k on it and it was caked in crap. TBH I think the inlet wants cleaning but that's a job for another time.
Delete pipe

Hey, good to see the EGR Valve definitely needs removing!! :surprised: Did you simply replace it with the Delete pipe or did you go the whole hog and remove the cooler and associated pipework?
Does it make any difference to the way the car drives/revs? Any more soot out the exhaust?
-
Tell me about it. A lot worse than I was expecting given the mileage. My old Mk4 PD150 with 100k on it wasn't much worse than this.
For now I just fitted the delete pipe. From what I believe its easier to remove the other bits and pieces from underneath but I don't have access to a ramp so will have to stay as it is for now.
Not really had chance to drive it properly yet but will do tomorrow morning to work. EML is on which I was expecting but will be mapped out on Monday. Only difference I can tell so for is abit more turbo noise, which for me is nice as it was virtually silent before.
-
Nice progress Matto, eager to hear the results of the stage 2 remap and power delivery. :congrats:
-
I'm looking forward to seeing the results after the remap :happy2:
Keep up the progress
Cheers
-
Lovely looking motor mate, I was a hare's breath from getting that blue, but the deal feel through. Lucky to get ED30 front and rear bumpers you just need to add the skirts to finish the look. The wheels are excellent, I the think the Charleston is one of the best looking OE wheels available. :happy2:
I fitted an EGR delet pipe to swmbo's and to be honest there isn't much difference, mine was more caked than your's as well.
-
Will do an update Monday night or Tuesday after the remap.
Pagey, I agree. I love the Charlestons and so glad to have them back on again now. Car looks so much better and the handling is fantastic again. The car came with the ED30 front and rear splitter/bumpers when I bought it. I didn't know at the time that they were what they are lol. It is classed as an import so was probably spec'd for somewhere else. I'm wanting an R32 rear I think somewhere down the line.
As for the EGR removal, I've been to work and back today and unless its just my mind playing tricks on me it is definitely smoother to drive. It used to be a right pig at times. Fingers crossed it doesn't come back.
-
Another little update from me with a few things I've been on with lately. First is the the Highline cluster which was fittted and coded by Kalu off here. Many thanks for that :happy2:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMatt.H%2FMK5_Golf_GT_Sport_170%2F12_zps9ee74764.jpg&hash=f0a795070dca00286b23cec00ca827ed78e00d6c)
Then at the end of last week I fitted my Darkside EGR delete in preparation for the remap.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMatt.H%2FMK5_Golf_GT_Sport_170%2F13_zpsef6ae75c.jpg&hash=15e3b49e28fb832385b314540074e8877e03b30a)
On monday I booked the day off as I was paying a visit to Shark Performance (No longer running the Shark map. See page 15). I arrived just after 9am and was greeted by Rob who asked me what I wanted from the map etc and just to confirm what I had booked when I left a deposit at the Autosport show. Before anything happened it was put on the rollers to get my standard bhp. This came out at 181.8bhp/395Nm.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMatt.H%2FMK5_Golf_GT_Sport_170%2F14_zpsce22d2f8.jpg&hash=68d331b9c99f721fde020140e7d120eced0943d6)
It then went into the workshop where Mark started with the DPF removal. He also removed the EGR pipe that fed round to the EGR valve to clean up the engine bay. While this was going on me and my mate was getting hungry so decided it was bacon and sausage cob time  An ITG panel filter was also fitted at the same time.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMatt.H%2FMK5_Golf_GT_Sport_170%2F15_zps7ed2c0e9.jpg&hash=2a2cc29344ba034d7969e688da1f79fc317c84a0)
It was a long day with a fair bit of waiting around but once everything was back together it was time to load the map in and see what the rollers said. The outcome was 216.6bhp/464Nm :driver:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMatt.H%2FMK5_Golf_GT_Sport_170%2F16_zps5bd6bda0.jpg&hash=5cd73c6b729a20eb76ff8e42ed6a9169e3146bf5)
Dyno print out.

I am pleased with the results. Pulls like a train. There is abit of smoke which i expected but doesn't really bother me. 1st and 2nd are over in the blink of an eye, 3rd is awesome especially when you catch it right. Had abit of fun coming off an island on the A38. Planted the right foot and it just went berserk lol. 4th, 5th and 6th are plenty similar but all pull very well all the way through. Even though its abit of an animal I can still just cruise about no problem.
Only issue I had was the engine management light didn't go out once the map was loaded. The map was supposed to ignore the EGR. Had to pop back on the Tuesday when Mikko was back. I arrived on Tuesday afternoon and spoke to Rob and it turns out there was a little communication error between him and Mikko. He thought I was leaving the EGR valve in, but just didn't want it to work. Not that I had removed it completely. A little tweak on the map and its all sorted now.
Overall very happy with the results and service I got. Seemed eager to help and would use them again.
-
The highline dash is awesome, I love all the options in there
Thats some good figures there matey :happy2:
I'd be very happy with those, I sometimes wish I had bought the 170 version :sad1:
Keep up the good progress mate,
Cheers
-
181hp standard*? Can't complain at that Matto :happy2: It's barely been warmed up at 20,000 miles too! :P
If EGR & DP removal, map and aftermarket panel filter has given 216hp, I'd be proud of that
Will a downpipe or aftermarket exhaust take you closer to 230hp in reality?
I'm looking at this engine in an A3 next hence the interest and appreciation for the before/after figures.
Still love the ED30 splitter. Makes the front look classier and beefier, much like it transformed the front profile of mine once fitted.
-
Yeah pretty happy with the figures. Was expecting around the 170 mark but not as much as it was. My old PD150 made 156bhp as standard so that was high aswell.
Pete, I'm not too sure what extra gains you'd be looking at with an after market exhaust. Something I have thought about but not sure if its a route I will go down. Currently the DPF unit is still in. It just doesn't have anything inside. They seem to be a good engine apart from the injector fault which being addressed so you should be fine with one.
I know what you mean about the ED30 splitter, it just makes the front end for me. Didn't deadlier that's what it was when I bought it. It needs repainting though where the previous owner scuffed it on a curb.
-
Good progress Matto :happy2:
The highline looks so much better doesnt it!
Those figures are very impressive, bet its transformed the car! Have you noticed any change in your mpg?
Need to get one of those egr deletes & down to shark! Have they mapped out the engine light due to the egr being removed?
:happy2:
-
love the car! it is manual or dsg? My missus drives one remapped to 200bhp and it's animal. Totally difefrent to gti in my view
-
GTsport...mpg I would say is a little worse. Not much but a bit. On my commute to work I was seeing high 50's and into the 60's. Now its around the 50 mark. It's better on a run, on the motorway for example. I had been playing the mpg game the last couple of days but have found any heavyness on the go pedal soon knocks the mpg down. It's fun to drive though. The torque is awesome. I just need to suss out how to get it to go without wheel spinning :driver:
And yes mate they mapped the egr out too so not to get any faults :happy2:
Kregiel...Thanks  My car is a manual. I have never driven the petrol equivalent so don't really know. From experience in other cars I find petrols very flat and lack the torque.
-
Nice power figures there Matto :happy2:
Did you remove the EGR cooler too?
I have my darkside EGR delete ready to go on, just waiting for my DPF delete pipe then its remap time for me too
Cant wait
-
No mate. Egr cooler is still on. Was told it was easier to remove from underneath but I have no means to do that.
-
Matto the cooler is actually easier to remove from the top, you need to take the large inlet pipe off or pull it out the way and then you can get to every thing from there...only thing is after your have done it my legs and back where killing for the next 2 days
With the cooler out and decat/dpf delete done you get a nice mid range sound
Your car is sounding awesome mate :happy2: my dyno graph was very similar to yours just a bit down on the figures 207bhp 345lb ft
Darren
-
That's great to hear Darren. I'm looking to fit an EGR Delete soon(ish) and would love to remove all the unneeded ancillaries with it. Do you have any pictures of what you engine bay looks like afterwards?
To the OP, yeah the car looks stunning on the Charlestons. Your car has a perfect balance of looks, go and economy. :happy2: FTW!
-
Well done Matto, This thing must be a rocket now, Cant believe you only live up the road from me and still haven't seen this car yet.

Thanks Darren. Will look into it once I'm back of my hols. Do you just need one of those connectors the Darkside do to connect the water hoses together? Oh no not bonnet back haha. I know exactly what you mean from spending weekends underneath the bonnet of my old mk4 :fighting:

:happy2: Dodds.
There is a photo in Darren's build thread after the EGR cooler was removed but TBH you can't see alot as its round the back of the engine.
Well done Matto, This thing must be a rocket now, Cant believe you only live up the road from me and still haven't seen this car yet.
It sure is. Get like hell now when you press the go pedal. But it can still be civilised when not in the national speed limits. Only thing I find is it sometimes doesn't feel as quick as I'd like but then I look at the speed and its reading alot more than it feels :signLOL:
I do keep my eye out when I'm in and around Burton but still yet to see you.
-
Good results there Matto glad you got it all done, feeling left behind now (must save up :evilgrin:and play catch up)!
-
Cheers mate...I had abit of a year end bonus from work which was burning a hole in my pocket :signLOL:
-
A little update now I'm back off my hols. Just before I went I got the Polar FIS Advanced+ fitted. Ended up removing the scuttle panel and wiper motor to gain access to the gateway. Abit more work but so much easier.

Two very good mods dude. Looks fabulous :happy2:
-
Nice rear
Ed30 lights make a big difference. Goes really well with Graphite Blue
-
How are you finding the map now? Is it still all alright?
-
How are you finding the map now? Is it still all alright?
Yes mate map is fine. Now everything has had a chance to settle down. Nice and progressive now but I have seen a drop of about 10mpg on my daily commute.
-
Damn that car looks good!!!
-
Edition 30 lights look soooooo much better :happy2:
Keep up the good progress matey
Ben

Thanks for the comments chaps :happy2:
So another few little updates from me and chance to do some pic whoring
I dropped a spare grill panel off for smoothing and painting and my splitter for repainting as the previous owner had caught a few curbs. I wanted it looking right before it goes in for a detail next month.

I have also got myself some Nokya Hyper Yellow bulbs from the US for the main beam and fogs. Visibility at night is pretty good too. Most of my commute is along A roads and with the weather being crap at the minute I had chance to see what they were like. I also Lamin-X'd my fogs aswell. I know its abit marmite but I like them.

No mate it was Golfman's old unit and I fitted it myself.

Cheers mate. Splitter is an ED30 one which came on the car. Just had it repainted where previous owner had caught it on a few high curbs.
-
Just stumbled upon this thread, loving your progress so far! (Sorry for bringing up OLD news) did the Cruise Control require much work? Love the wheel too!
-
Just stumbled upon this thread, loving your progress so far! (Sorry for bringing up OLD news) did the Cruise Control require much work? Love the wheel too!
Thanks alot :happy2:
Cruise control is pretty easy to fit really. The only bit I was abit wary about was taking the airbag out but its not too bad a job once you've done one. Old stalk can be abit fiddly to remove but apart from that and some coding its not a bad job.
-
Only a quick update of my little parts pile that are waiting to be fitted. Hella Xenon look headlights which arrived today, smoothed grill panel and rear footwell lights in the package :happy2:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMatt.H%2FMK5_Golf_GT_Sport_170%2F30_zpsa6ab06b2.jpg&hash=9c218a8bb6860f1132f74f3659aef492c442f092)

wicked car mate
quick question howcome you get a drop of upto 10mpg post remap?
-
Cheers mate :happy2:
Not 100% sure but will be down to the mapping. I can still get into the 50's but not very often. Driving normally its between 42-45mpg. That's what the computer is telling me but I'm still getting roughly the same if not a little more out of £40. I say £40 because I can't bring myself to put any more than this is at a time :signLOL:
-
Well today with it being dry and my pile of bits mounting up I managed to get out and fit a few of them. First up was my smooth grill panel (and yes, I know its in desperate need of a wash).
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMatt.H%2FMK5_Golf_GT_Sport_170%2F31_zpse7bceb5a.jpg&hash=00941d5389719760043a351d993aabe324725ac8)
And rear footwell lighting which was abit fiddly but not too bad a job. Thanks Eddie for making the looms up for me :happy2:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMatt.H%2FMK5_Golf_GT_Sport_170%2F32_zps19d31d9f.jpg&hash=55ea86ca3d58a3fdd1d72fab7b6e1a89775cd265)
Car is also booked into AKS for some bits and pieces beginning of August so watch this space

*Big Update*
So it been a while since a proper update but been quite busy and not really had time. Here is what I've been up to with the car over the last couple of months.
First up was a trip to see Nath at Detail My Ride to let him give the car a little TLC. Full report can be seen here http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,50276.0.html (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,50276.0.html)

A big thank you to Nath and Alex for the fantastic work they've put in to getting it looking like it does and thanks for reading.
-
Looks smaaaaaaaart Matto. I'd be well chuffed with the drop
Engine bay's looking cleaner with the black caps, also a tidy little couple of mods.
That paintwork still looks great giving some lovely reflections.
Just got back from a run and the colour of the sky matches your paintwork all over :sad1:
-
Looking good matey
Love the smooth front grille :happy2:
Your paintwork looks in a lot better condition than mine, I get decent reflections but the swirl marks are not good :sad1:
I think the drop is just right, although on mine I still find the shocks to be too soft :sad1:
keep up the good progress,
Ben
-
lovely looking car mate love what you have done to it :happy2:
just wondering where you got the smooth grill panel from?
keep up the good work
-
Really nice sits nice aswell what springs have you put on sorry if I've missed it if you have said already.

Cheers Ben. Yeah mine had a few swirls in the paint. Depending on where you are in the country I can definitely recommend the work of DMR but there are a few other detailers on here who might be nearer to you. Worth getting it done.

Thanking you. I just kept an eye out on ebay for a second hand panel then had the holes plastic welded up, smoothed and painted.

Cheers mate. I sure did  Was the last few bits on my list though. Only got a quickshifter and 42DD bushes to do. Could do with some new tyres though. now its all set up and handles better its showing up the sh1te Zetum that's on the back passenger side. Keeps breaking loose so don't want to push it too much.
I have thought about an upgrade but I haven't found anything wrong with what I have. Plus I run 16" winters so would need to get new winter wheels lol.
-
Short shift and dd42 bushes are both great mods. Also the cable bracket bushes that Alex does :innocent:
-
Alex was telling me about those. Not 100% sure where they fit but it sounded like they were still being tweaked/designed?
-
Looks fantastic. I really need some GT grilles back in my life!

Cheers mate. I have dressed them. I've got some Megs stuff and one of the applicator sponges. It goes on allright but as soon as it dries it doesn't leave a shine

Cheers mate. I have dressed them. I've got some Megs stuff and one of the applicator sponges. It goes on allright but as soon as it dries it doesn't leave a shine
Are you using Megs Tyre Endurance Gel?
I find it works great the way I use it. I got a 1L plastic empty milk bottle and cut it in half. I then squirt the gel into the bottle and I use a 1" paintbrush to apply. (try to cut the bristles down in length, so that they are quite rigid and stiff) :ashamed:
It just makes the application easier.
I always try to apply the gel just before putting the car away in the garage at night.
I apply the gel and leave it on overnight before buffing it off.
seems to give great results, that last a lot longer than the suggested application method. :happy2:
-
Cheers Joe :happy2:
Monte, the one I'm using is called Hot Tyre Shine or something along those lines. It's clear in a spray bottle. My mate uses it and likes it but he sprays direct to the tyre. I use the applicator sponge so I don't have to wipe the wheels down again.
-
Looks ace Matt, seen it a few times on my way to work. :happy2: Sits pretty on the springs!
-
Cheers mate. Good to see you finally made it :happy2:
-
Think i saw this today at the CO-OP in Stanton at about 10 past 1? If it was looked really smart.

Nope not me mate. I was still at work in Derby. I hope there isn't an imposter going about lol.
-
It was definatly the same colour with what looked like a edition 30 splitter on.
Erm i know what you mean about similar looking cars in the area though mine has dissapeared though.

Such a nice motor mate love shadow blue with the yellow fogs!
-
Love the look of your car, Matto.
-
Just had a read threw your thread there, your car is looking really well... Loving the colour Matto :jumpmove:
How do you find the H&R's, i personally think its sitting perfect, nice and even drop :happy2: I had the H&R's in and they where great on the normal shocks, But a bit hard on my current KW's...
Keep up the good work!
-
Car is looking awesome as always Matto :happy2:
Your car seems to sit lower than mine on the H&R's, I don't know if its because you've got the front splitter.
Keep up the good work matey
-

Did you? I was off to pick my mate up from Castle. Shame its so dirty at the minute :signLOL:
-
Don't worry after all my effort trying to keep mine clean it's still filthy. Yours still looked gorgeous even if it was dirty.
-
Tell me about it. I did mine the other weekend. It stayed clean for about 2 days.
-
Mine too, it dosent help with the poor wet weather we have :happy2: But the next time it gets washed the hose takes most of the dirt off.
Which makes it easier :signLOL:
-
Looking nice, its good to see another shadow blue one.
Which H & Rs did you get mate?

Great thread,
The car sits nicee! how much did your remap etc come to at shark performance, have you had much problems?
Thanks
Matt
-
Very nice, Matt. So is it the 35mm kit you used? I'm looking at the same springs for mine, don't want to go too low! Love what you've done to it! :happy2:
-

Matt
Yeah it sits just how I like it and handles loads better. Very fun to drive now. I think the remap came to a smidge over £500 but that was a deal I got from them at last years Autosport Show. This was for what they class as a custom map as I had the DPF removed/mapped out plus the EGR done at the same time. No problems no. Does smoke a bit though when you give it some but I've got used to it.

Cheers mate :happy2: Yeah I think it was the 35mm kit as I believe mine was 10mm lower as standard with it being the GT Sport.
-
Well yesterday I took a trip down to AKS. Nothing for the Golf this time but had the girlfriends car serviced. Once this was done I went to collect some winters that I had won on eBay and also met up with Kalu to pick up some other bits. Quite a fruitful day. Need to get them fitted now.

Yeah had them in my ebay watch list for ages and thought I'd treat myself to something small seeing as its the end of the month. I did think about the tape as I have seen others do it but I wasn't too bothered. Plus I see red as a GTI thing

Cheers mate. Be a few more bits added to this after Saturday :happy2:
-
So here is my first proper update for 2013. Saturday saw another visit to Alex at AKS to have a few bits fitted which I had collected over the last few months. These were a full S3 brake setup, Darkside Developments DPF delete and full Milltek.
Here's how I got on.
Before photos of standard front and rear brakes:

Front brakes fitted waiting to be bled. Also with my freshly powder coated GTD brake clips:

Once all the brakes had been bled through it was time to fit the exhaust. First up was the 3" Darkside DPF delete. Lovely piece of kit. Nicely made. A bit too nice to not be seen really. I chose the Darkside pipe over the Milltek one as first of all it was cheaper, even with any discount that was to be had on the Milltek. And now I have seen it, the quality. The first thing Alex said was how well made it was. It has a longer flexi which helps stop any cracking issues. Another thing with the Darkside pipe is you can junk off most of the sensors. It only retains the lambda sensor. Pressure sensor pipework was binned leaving it connected but blanked off. Also the two DPF temperature sensors are now redundant and tied up out the way. We did try disconnecting them but it threw a fault. They can be mapped out however if I ever wanted to.
DPF delete and Milltek 3" - 2.75" adaptor:

Once the rest of the system had been fitted we ended up with this:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMatt.H%2FMK5_Golf_GT_Sport_170%2F65_zps9b1d7eb6.jpg&hash=1c4f648c28fb53e7da46a1f22f7deb95bb13cf08)
Some did ask in General Chat why I had had the backbox painted. This is because the older Milltek backboxes were a bit deeper than the standard ones so sat lower than the bumper. With them being shiny it would stand out too much and I didn't want that.
Photo's showing backbox before and after:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMatt.H%2FMK5_Golf_GT_Sport_170%2F66_zpsbccfdbd6.jpg&hash=adeaaea3b643b04dfd4c8af1e0b72c89166ba434)

Here are a few photo's from when I got home behind the 17" Classix. Not the best and is in desperate need of a clean.

I must say both the modifications have made a noticeable difference. Brakes are strong and still retains good feel through the pedal. Having the DPF delete and exhaust has also made for a pleasing exhaust note and help it breathe better. Pulls like a train now. It wasn't bad before but at times it did feel a little asthmatic.
Overall pleased with both of these.
A big thanks to Alex. As always great quality of work and attention to detail even though it took a lot longer than anticipated. :happy2:
Next stop is DMR for an enhancement detail on Saturday. Time to work your magic Greeners :happy2:

Great stuff Matt! :happy2:

Thanks mate. I don't think mine is the slimmer box to be fair. It does sit quite a bit below the bumper. Its not the best angle really as it's up on the lift so was looking up at it a little.

I don't currently. Only with it on the lift. Will get some so you can see how it looks :happy2:

Here are few photos which were taken today. Yesterday it spent the day with the guys at DMR for an enhancement detail so is looking fantastic again.
A quick shot down the side:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMatt.H%2FMK5_Golf_GT_Sport_170%2F71_zpse828d5f1.jpg&hash=5a8b057a1b70c20ba1a9429e086dfc6811f7aca8)
I also got round to fitting some protective strips to the rear door shuts. The rear door rubbers chafe the paintwork which ends up with it rubbing right through and allowing corrosion to start. Seems to affect most 5 door MK5's to some extent. They are available from VW and are pre-cut so are the correct shape.
Film applied:

Also may of missed but I'm sure I didn't see it.... what bhp are you expecting now? notice much difference in mpg?
Looks so gorgeous!

Awesome progress Matto!! :happy2:
I'm loving all of it  I think i'm going to eventually get the S3/R32 brakes, love the little things like the R32 gear knob and pedals
I'm in the process of doing a couple of bits on mine
I'd like to hear what the exhaust sounds like :happy2:
Keep up the good progress,
Cheers,
Ben

Thanks for all the comments. I will have to try get a video to post up so people get an idea what it sounds like.
Mattgriff - As far as I'm aware the exhaust wouldn't make alot more. The only time it was on the dyno was when it was mapped. Ran 216bhp/464Nm then. As for mpg, the computer never reads as high as it did but I still get the same or more miles to the amount of fuel I put in. Still get into the 50's.

Thanks mate! I've been reading around and people are getting around 230bhp with the dpf delete so just wondered what your figure were.
Cant wait to hear it!! :D
-
Yeah some people are running that or close to. Maybe with upgraded hardware. AndrewJB on here was running Stage 2+ Shark on his Leon FR which was around 225bhp but said it was too smokey for the road. Mine make a reasonable amount at 216bhp.
-
Yeah I can well imagine with that DPF out the way! How was the map before removing the dpf did you have any issues?
Matt
-
I had the standard DPF gutted the same time as the remap. It was only because I bought a full Milltek that I thought I would get a proper DPF delete pipe aswell.
-
The pictures of your car and encouraged me to detail mine. Your car looks awesome great work :happy2:

Glad I could be of some inspiration to you as many others have been for me since registering on this forum. A big thumbs up to Nath and Gareth at DMR who do a fantastic job in keeping it looking nice.

So today I got round to fitting a couple of little bits and pieces I have accumulated over the last couple of weeks.
Chrome headlight switch:

Decided to change the exterior B pillar trims aswell. Standard matte finish trims:

Thanks for looking :happy2:
-
where were the gloss black trims from?
-
Wrapped or genuine?
-
was thinking about wrapping mine, but if i can get them at a good price may just replace
-
I bought some wrap ages ago but never got round to it!
-
Wrapped or genuine?
These are genuines from VW. I did consider wrapping but for how much they are decided to just buy the proper ones.
-
what did they cost you?
-

Matto car looks stunning, how easy is it to get the gloss black trims as got to replace a front one on ours, I'm assuming you need to tease the window seals out

Thanks mate. Yeah you do. Not too bad of a job. I found the rears easier than the front for getting the seal back in. I used this guide to help http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?4492688 (http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?4492688)

Thanks very much. You're right its sometimes those small touches that help finish it off. I have a few other bits in boxes ready to fit. Just haven't got round to it yet. Need a good full day so I can take my time.

So its been a while since I last updated and have a few little bits to report.
A few weeks ago I popped over to Mike's (TFSI Mike) as Eddie was up retrofitting some highline clocks for him. I took the opportunity to get my rear view camera fitted at the same time. So hear come the photo's.
Face off.

are those b pillar trims the ED30 ones?
that's some serious soot there...try to avoid asmatics :scared:

Thanks Rex.
I think they came on the GTI/ED30 yes. Mine was fitted with the matt black ones as standard.
-
looking good Matt..love the video.Ed is coming to mine next week to fit tmps

Matto,
The car is looking great.
Mine smokes like a pig too, so in a way, I'm glad it's not just mine.
Ta.
Matt
-
Good video matey, also reminds me how much I like your wheels!
What you running air filter wise on your car? It's getting upto service time for mine and I'm unsure on if I should go with a K&N panel filter over the standard VAG filter as I can clean it as frequently as I want then!
-
Cheers mate. Yeah they do look good when they're clean. I have an ITG panel filter fitted. Just gave it a blow out with an air gun at last service.
-
Standard filters are £18 plus VAT so it really does make sense to buy a reusable one! I'll have to get on the hunt for one today!
-
So today I attended a local charity rolling road event. Here is the print out:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMatt.H%2FMK5_Golf_GT_Sport_170%2F91fb_zpse4988833.jpg&hash=b8011b311b998f215a689830c5949a61f41dd1d9)
I little bit lower than when it was last done but the rolling road is said to be a truthful one so I'm not too fussed. I also believe there is some room for improvement after speak with a couple of people.
Watch this space.
-
Hey, its still a 200bhp diesel Golf.
I would be very proud of it.......Love your motor!
Matt
-
good results Matt..would worry on the figures of the rolling road- long as it drives ok that's the main thing
-
Hey, its still a 200bhp diesel Golf.

Matt
There is that yes BUT with the amount of smoke it chucks out it should be running more. Mapped correctly a smokeless 200bhp is achievable. Mine is over fuelling a fair bit so I believe there are some adjustments needed which will reduce smoke but also give better power and torque.
As you can see between 3500 and 3750 rpm the power drops off for some reason then rises again. Something else that can be smoothed out.
-
good run matey, that's with a temp of 20oC odd of warm air blowing, get it on a cooler day to you see the difference
car's coming on well, looking good to...
hope you have been out getting some good shots for this years calendar :happy2:
-
Thanks mate.
I haven't yet no. Must get out there and get some in case there is one next year.

I couldn't really say on its own as it was fitted the same time as the springs and RARB. Supposed to reduce wheelspin/wheelhop. No such luck with 1 million torques :signLOL:

Love this car Matto. One day mine will be as good l hope.

How's the new remap Matt
-
Does it go a little better now.

Well seeing as a couple of people have asked I think I should update this now.
Saturday I popped down to CC Tuning in Burton for a re-remap :signLOL: and to get rid of the Shark software. I had had it on the rollers a couple of months previous to this and it only made 200bhp average over the 3 runs. Chris said it felt very unresponsive and should hardly smoke at all at that power.
I had planned on having it done in the new year but seeing as he was doing a December offer I bit the bullet and went for it sooner. I had popped down earlier in the week at which time he read the Shark file. That night we were chatting and had found quite a few issues with it.
Wrong over-boost maps, maps altered for DPF when I have no DPF, boost limit set to 1.7 but boost wants 1.85, smoke limiter pushed to a value where it no longer becomes a limit. This was the same for the EGT limit.
So Saturday we started again and also had a play with the cam timing but only found that made a difference of 3-4bhp. The biggest difference was to the smoothness of the graph.
I think Chris was a little stumped with mine as he had had a couple of 170's in that week that had made quite a lot more power. There are a few mechanical checks I would like to do. Reset the timing making sure I can get everything locked up correctly and the torsion value is as close to 0 as I can get it. Also check the set-up of the injectors as this could be causing issues if this hadn't been done properly during the recall.
I am also seeing, what I think to be abnormally low EGT temps so may have a sensor on its way out. Going to do the mechanical settings first and see if these change.
I went in with 196bhp/303lbft, loads of smoke and poor throttle response and came away with 210bhp/363lbft, alot less smoke and a car that goes like stink. He has also said I can go back once I've done my checks and can have to map updated FOC which is good.
As you can see from that graph it is much smoother.

Good update Matto,
I've been checking all day to see if you had.
Good news that you've made progress. Makes me more confident that I can improve mine!
-
So wish we had diesel mappers in Ireland..lol
Was chatting with a diesel mapper on here but don't want generic mapping after reading above.i'll just leave the dpf in till I can go to uk and get it done..
Great read matteo...some great info
:happy2:

now that is a lot better and i bet its good you can see out of your back window :signLOL:As said heard good thinks about Chris at cc tuning

Haha have you? Yeah made some progress but think there could be better results once all the mechanical settings have been checked/adjusted. TBH I haven't had a proper drive of it yet as not needed to go anywhere. Off to work later so will see how it goes. Some settling down to do I think with being messed with.

Is there no one at all over there? I wouldn't say there is anything wrong with generic maps. You just need one that has been done by someone who has done their testing and research. Although the custom route is the best as each car is different and can be tailored to your requirements/mods etc. Think you need a road trip :happy2:
now that is a lot better and i bet its good you can see out of your back window :signLOL:As said heard good thinks about Chris at cc tuning
Definitely noticed a huge reduction in smoke that's for sure. Before you could squeeze the throttle so it started to build boost but not gain any real speed and it would pummel out the back. Hopefully now the rear will stay cleaner for longer.
-
So no black soot all over your tailgate now ? ...chris wells deffo knows his stuff

Nowhere near as much. Been a couple of weeks now and not even a hint on the boot lid. Insides of the pipes are black but the outsides are still clean.

That's good news then

Excellent news..looks like your car is mapped right now :happy2:

Here is my update for January. As some will have read I had the car re-remapped at CC Tuning before Christmas as I wasn't happy with the Shark software. I have now had chance to drive it properly and I must say I am very impressed. It goes like stink. Its smooth and progressive and really puts you back in your seat. It gains speed so quickly. I am seeing better fuel economy on motorway runs and overtaking is just effortless. Another big plus is the rear of the car is staying much cleaner apart from normal road grime. I would go as far as saying there isn't a hint of black on the boot lid and I last washed it the day it was mapped which was 21st Dec. Overall I am very pleased.
So, January didn't start too great. The biggest issue I had was when I came to reset the timing as Chris at CC had been playing with it whilst mapping. He had mapped a few PD170's in the previous weeks to mine and they were making very good figures and thought this was down to the cam timing. I went in with a torsion value of 1.89 degrees advanced on the inlet cam. From doing some research, the ideal figure for this was around 0.5 degrees advanced. During the mapping we got it down to 0.74 which was as close as we could get as the movements on the cam are so small. We found that the timing only made a difference of around 3-4bhp. The biggest difference was in the smoothness of the graph and 0.74 was the figure we settled with. Due the the front cam being moved I wanted to now sync the exhaust cam to the inlet cam, something I have done previously and took around half an hour. Well this time I was sh1t out of luck. Somehow both camshaft locking pins had got jammed in and I mean properly jammed in. I finally managed to get them out after around 6 hrs of swearing and trying everything I knew. Unfortunately by this time it was too late to carry on and finish it so had to refit the cam pulleys, belt and time it up correctly two days later due to the weather.
Now I know some would say to have left it but since it had been mapped I was getting cold start issues and thought it had to be down to either mapping or timing as those were the only 2 things that had changed. Now with everything timed up to factory set I get a torsion value of 2.29 which is a lot higher than what is 'recommended' but I no longer have the cold start issue plus that is the position where all 3 locking pins can be fitted.
Anyway enough rambling as I know people only want to see pictures :signLOL:
So a few more photos of what I have been up to lately. Firstly I got hold of the full interior LED kit that is advertised on here.
Front and rear interior LED's installed:

The kit also come with LED's for the glovebox, vanity mirrors, boot and number plate lights. Light output is good and all are error free :happy2:
There are also LED's for the sidelights available too.

Awesome Matt, nice tasteful mods there! Hey, did your motor come with the Winter Mode button? Or did you retro fit it... I've got one, but not wired up yet.

Are these the xenon look lights still? What bulbs do you have in them (dipped), HID kit or halogen bulbs? What is the light output like?
I am on the look out for a GT and ideally want xenons but cannot find many specced with them, thinking this could be an option.
Car looks awesome :happy2:

Cheers mate. Yeah mine came with the Winter Mode button. I know what it does but haven't a clue how it works haha. I heard that all the 170's did but how true that is I don't know. Mine is classed as an import for some reason though as its not a VWUK car.
Looks the b@llocks!
Top progress Matt.
Been hearing some very good things from CCT of recent.
Cheers lads. I had too plus a mate had his done down there. Its only the 140 and felt loads more eager than mine did. He was doing a money off deal for December so was rude not to jump on it.
Top work there fella, some nice touches, was the mk6 climate control just plug and play apart from coding?
Luckily mine wasn't too bad to do. I believe it is a minefield in regards finding the right panel that will work. It is plug and play but you have to swap 2 cables over so it keeps the memory after the ignition is turned off. You can get issues where the AC compressor doesn't start or cuts out after a few mins depending on panel/ecu combination. I tried 2 different panels, an ER and a BC which is the one I have settled for. Both worked fine but with the ER one being newer it would flag a 'missing messages' error. This is something to do with the way it communicates between the other modules in the car. The earlier BC panel doesn't flag this. The only one I get is an air quality sensor fault just because it isn't there but can be retrofitted at a later date.

Yeah they are. These are the Hella ones. Currently running a 4500K HIDS Direct kit for dipped beam. Light output is good but have never compared them with OEM xenon's. I was the same as you. Didn't seem to be many spec'd with them and were very few and far between.
Looks like Yellow FTP and Fog lights.(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Ftelligent.com%2Ffiles%2Fmedia%2Fdocs%2FImages%2FCS5%2FUsers%2Femoticon-cool1.png&hash=aad4e1b414aaaa1dd7f7fcc771128a490e74a1f9)
You are correct mate. Nokya Hyper Yellows in full beam and fogs plus fogs are Lamin-X'd aswell.
Love this car, keep it up buddy you must be well chuffed.
Did you speak to Shark about the issues you were having?
Thanks mate. Yeah very pleased with how it is currently. Still a few things on the to do list but getting there. TBH I didn't speak to them no. I personally didn't have an issue with them when I had it mapped but had always been a little underwhelmed with it from day one. Something I just lived with I guess. Plus after hearing from people who had had a few issues with them I thought I would make the change. I know its the same in the tuning world and every company won't please everyone all of the time but the one thing the gets my back up is when one firm slags off another. I don't think this is the way business should be done.

Got to say the colour is absolutely gorgeous and the styling mods are spot on !
I nearly bought a PIRELLI in this colour ( nearly graphite blue ) and there is a sneaky golf R for sale In it just now.
Got to be one of the rarer colours and I've no idea why ?

So another small update. After the fiasco with the timing, I was interested to see what difference it had made due to it now running a tiny bit more advanced. The bum dyno was telling me that it had a little more torque but slightly less power but I was happy in the knowledge that I know it is now timed up correctly. The results turned out to be the complete opposite.
Blue curve is when it was mapped at Christmas with a torsion value of 0.74°, red curve was from today with a torsion value of 2.29°. As you can see they are very close.
The figures:
Before - 210bhp/184whp, 492Nm/363lbft
After - 219bhp/183whp, 475Nm/351lbft
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMatt.H%2FMK5_Golf_GT_Sport_170%2F103_zpsd6221635.jpg&hash=527a916d62916ac859c796ab665f3913defb200f)
Still very happy with how its running now and after nearly a month there is still no black sooty haze appearing on the boot lid :happy2:

love this mate, really want GT grilles on mine now! and xenons

Matt it just so happens I have an air quality sensor and wiring loom sat in front of me, you can gladly take them off me if you so desire? unfortunately I cannot fit them due to the Op I had on my shoulder but it is fairly easy.
FOC if you pay the postage.

New Map looks great,
not been on for a while so just caught up! Keep it up I have a lot of admiration for this car.
I must admit it took me a while to get used to driving my Diesel with the earlier gear changes, and now I can see from the power charts you'd assmue to change gear at the peak around 4k revs by the looks of it! does that sound right to you?

Cheers mate. Yeah they definitely look better than the reflector type headlights. No not far. I'm closer to Burton on Trent but work in Derby.

I actually did a photoshop of mine with the GTI grills but glad I didn't go for it now. Really like the GT ones.

Very kind of you to say. I am nearly at the end of the list for this. A few more bits as listed on the first page but will then just be enjoying it.
I've been driving diesels for around 8 years now so I'm well used to it. I don't really think about the revs when changing. Really depends on how its mapped I think. Mine pulls all the way to the redline but never need to drive it like that. Unless I need to overtake something it very rarely goes above 4k I'd say.

So I haven't had much going on with this lately but have a couple of recent photo's to share. Managed to spend some time on it yesterday. Wash, polished and waxed and looking nice again. I got round to fitting some colour-coded GTI skirts aswell. They just finish off the look for me. I also changed the front black VW badge back to the chrome one.

Still looking good Matt, very nice.
One of my OEM + GT Faves :congrats:
I expect we're running very nearly same power and torque.
-
Thanks Pete.
Yeah possibly. I am currently a little bit down on power and torque after fitting a new EGT sensor and re-setting the injectors. So this weekend I reset them back to where they were an I'm going back on Tuesday to get it on the dyno again and try sort out the mapping.
Fingers crossed he can get me back up to where it was.

Stunning car mate, :congrats:

Hi Matt,
I have a mk6 ER climate control that I want to install in the car.
Exactly what cables did you swap (A,B,C Connectors?).
Your car is 2008, right?
No issues with the climate control till now? Does the air vent above the dash still work?
Cheers! :notworthy:

Hi Rex. I followed this guide ----> http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?4938269-OEM-MKVI-Climatronic-on-a-MKV-on-a-RNS-510-Screen-installed (http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?4938269-OEM-MKVI-Climatronic-on-a-MKV-on-a-RNS-510-Screen-installed)
I just swapped the wires of 16 and 20 around. I decided to cut and resolder as the wires are of a different thickness so even if you release the pins the will not go back in the other plug. This was only in the A connector.
Yeah mine is a 2008 model. The ER panel was the panel that gave me the 'missing message' fault although it seemed to work fine. I settled for the BC panel. The only fault I get now is because I don't have the air quality sensor connected.
No issues with the BC panel. Everything works as it should. Hope this helps mate :happy2:

Hi Matt and thanks for the reply! :notworthy:
I saw that thread (a a few other ones) but I though that for your car it was easier (the car in that thread is 2007).
Did you do the First and Second Step (as described in that link)?
I have some spare A, B and C connectors and I saw that wire 20 has a different plug but it seemed to be of the same thickness with the rest (unlike 19 for example). I also think that cutting the wires is the way to go since modifying the plugs is much more complicated. Did you leave the original pin 20 unplugged?
I also have the air quantity sensor but I think installing it will be a complicated job. I'll see how it goes...
-
Only a quick update of my little parts pile that are waiting to be fitted. Hella Xenon look headlights which arrived today, smoothed grill panel and rear footwell lights in the package :happy2:

Basically all I did was do the pin swap and then the initial set-up using the button presses it describes. I basic settings step worked for me but doing step 2 didn't do anything but all works fine.
I didn't leave 20 unplugged. You only need to do that if you are thinking about connecting the AQS as this is the power cable for it. I'm the same, I have the AQS and know it location but the idea of being upside down in the footwell running cable behind the dash keeps putting me off :signLOL:

It was through a chap from Germany. He does have an ebay shop but you have to message him direct for the RHD versions. Can't remember off the top of my head but will try dig some info out for you :happy2:

So the other day I was at Donington and got the chance to break my track driving cherry and took the dirty diesel for a little spin. Track temp was very warm so the Hankooks went all chewing gummy meaning I had zero feedback or confidence in them haha. Enjoyed the experience overall though.
Here is the video albeit very unspectacular and rather quiet due to my external mic adaptor sh*tting itself.

Yeah that would be possible next time. The camera and suction mount is set up for my brother's track car which is stripped out there is nothing obscuring the view. This is fastened to my sunroof which sits slightly higher anyway and I didn't have any extenders with me.

Yay :grouphug:
Mine was the only derv out there. This was at the Ford RS Owners day so it was dump valve galore. I was able to join in well enough though as most old Ford's smoke as much as mine anyway haha.

Unfortunately the chap I had them from cannot get them anymore. I referred another member on here a few weeks ago who got in touch with him. I think he said they don't make them anymore which is a shame.
More progress please!
I currently have nothing in the pipeline at the minute. I do have some TTS discs and M1144's to fit when I get chance. Apart from that most of my cash is being saved towards a wedding. Oh and I have been looking at MK7 GTD's. Bit out of my reach currently.
-
Good little vid that Matt.
Was prob just the tyre pressures needing adjusting on the Hankooks. Going to have to tie your hands to the steering wheel too!
-
Great looking GT Sport! Definitely the R-line front grills would be a good addition. :)
Cheers

So only a small update from me. Finally got round to fitting my Brembo TTS discs and Mintex M1144's yesterday. Currently bedding them in.
That is all :happy2:

Hey Matto love this car :happy2:
With the added BHP / Torque have you made any changes to the clutch / DMF? if not have you had any problems with the standard clutch / DMF?
Not sure if i missed this in one of your previous post so appollogies if i have.

Thanks @Nibs (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=6996) I am still on stock clutch and DMF. Seems to be holding up fine with the current power and torque but will no doubt need doing somewhere down the line as it gets older. Car has only just hit 50K.
Hope this helps :happy2:

Yeah thanks, i've got the exact same car same colour and seeing your build thread has made me want to make a few changes to mine since i installed some my kw V1's.
chief amount which would be the removal of the DPF and EGR they they start getting clogged up but with the DPF removed i wouldn't want the soot shown on your soot cam vid so a visit to CC tuning might be in order as they helped you out pretty good, thing is then with the remap would mean an increase in HP / Torque and i was thinking the DMF might suffer a bit but seems ok with 218hp. My car has already had one DMF at about 65k but tbh that was me being anal about the car.

Cheers mate. Needs a wash though after being in the Lakes the other week.
@Nibs (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=6996) If you go down the route of a DPF & EGR delete, go for the Darskide Developments stuff. Well made and cheaper than a Milltek equivalent. You will only have soot issues like I had if you have it mapped at Shark, which i wouldn't recommend. Chris at CC Tuning will see you right though. Will tune it how you want and if there is too much smoke, he will knock it back abit. I still get some smoke but its more of a very light grey haze in the mirror now as opposed to a thick black cloud. You'll be fine with a remap. All you have to remember is not to load it up too much low down the RPM's. For example don't plant your foor in 3rd or 4th at 1000rpm. Thats when you'll feel it judder. I don't get anything at all with how it is mapped currently.
-
Nice video matto, I've added a like for you :happy2:
You have given me a few ideas for mods to my golf, its just the funds that hold me back at present. :sad1:

Hey Matto wondering if i can pick your brain?
If i have missed your thread update on brakes i appologise its been a while since reading it.
What discs / pads do you have? Mine are due for replacement and i was going down the Tarox route after reading the R32OC forum but they maybe a bit OTT for my car plus they may set me back £418 for disc (front and back) alone.
What do you have on your car?

Think Matt is using--•TTS Discs and Mintex M1144 Pads
-
Andy is correct. I'm running Brembo TTS discs on the front with Mintex M1144's. Standard Audi S3 stuff on the rear.
-
The Brembo discs are slightly lighter aren't they?
-
Its the fact they are the TTS discs which means they are lighter. Have a fancy cooling fin layout and are marginally smaller at 340mm :happy2:

So it has been a while since I have updated this but TBH not much has happened. It is currently in winter/bad weather mode so back on the Classix. I had them powder coated over Christmas too after seeing @Sjw_Vw (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=6365) 's done in black. Only difference is I prefer to run them without the centre caps so made some Nylon ones at work to blank the hole then use the standard nut covers. Gives a slightly different look.
It also had a much needed wash and some wax the other weekend. You'll have to excuse the phone pics. The only ones I have of it in its current guise.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMatt.H%2FMK5_Golf_GT_Sport_170%2FIMAG2006_zps4o26zw0x.jpg&hash=a8603f445dd4901ecfb5c935efb2fcc1c9aabd7b)

I also decided to put the number plate mount back on. After the magnets corroding I changed to double sided suckers. When we had the snow earlier this year, during the melt some slid off the bonnet and pulled the plate off and it wouldn't stay on after that and got fed up of it. I managed to pick up a standard plate mount and shorten it to fit my personal plate and reattach to the grill panel.

Cheers @Biano44 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=6785) . Haha I know what you mean but who needs 500/600bhp when you're getting 600 miles to a tank
I'm at the end of the modding with this anyway now. Just the boost gauge and vent pod to fit then keep it looking nice and serviced. I know what I want next but they are't out yet nor do I have the funds.

Glad to see someone really liked something on my car

Still one of my favourites on this forum........but with all these 500/600 bhp monsters you've got some stiff competition! :P
It's one of the best diesels around, for sure.
Faultless and very well balanced project! :congrats:
Really appreciate the comment @Shoduchi (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=10590) :drinking:

So it has been a while since my last update but this is due to me now doing much to it lately. I am now at the end of my mods list and will just keep it clean and service before changing to something else in a couple of years hopefully. I know what I want but need them to come down in price a little first.
But anyway, here are a couple of pictures of my latest and last mods. Newsouth Boost Gauge and vent pod.

Thanks again for looking and this is the end for now. Will probably post some photos up when it's had a decent clean as I've been going for no wash winter so far.
