Car looks great in that colour with the bbs.

Thank you!
I like the bbs's more than I thought I would...
Initially I would have liked a bit wider wheels with lower offset but same style. Like BBS VZ 033 (8x18, ET 44). But the price was to great to pass and now I am very very happy with the purchase.

Thanks for sharing your trip to Nurburgring, I plan on taking my mk5 when it's fully up together.

Just make sure you have good brakes and a reliable car and go. Don't wait until all stars align.
Have fun and share your experience as well!

Good to hear you mk1 is running well, I'm still having the mapping fine tuned. I still not driven mine yet but it is pretty much together.
Look foward to your progress, I'm starting on my inner arches and suspension later this month.

Cheers mate, aye I can just start to see the fronts starting to go under the bottom of the wing at the sill so gonna get the wings off n all and sort that before it gets too bad!

Aye it’s running sweet as a nut, it’s a shade over 200 brake and tbh I dunno if I’d want it any quicker than it is 😂 be good to see some pics of yours like - here’s a couple how mine stands now

Mk1 looks great, that's a tidy engine install as well. AGU engine ?

I also  have also have recaros in mine. What brackets did you use to fit the recaros?I have scirocco subframes but they are binding making the seats very difficult to move forwards or back.

I'll put some photos up   of my mk1 on my Edition 30 thread. Mine was   around  260 bhp on the rollers and I have got a diff in it.

My sills sound exactly the same, rusting under the wings, like you wings need to come off see how bad it is.

The fastest lap of the trip:

Not quite proud of the time (still 18 seconds away from my best in 2017), but considering the engine and gearbox issues, I think the rhythm is quite good.
But I am happy of how I felt behind the steering wheel  :driver:.

P.S. The data overlay is, at times, way off... All of us have been experiencing GPS connectivity issues during the trip.

And the remaining photos...

I like it is obvious how the tires deform under load and how small the contact patch becomes on the inside tires when the car is cornering hard.

Today's big job 👨‍🔧🛠
Replacing my cam chain, tensioner, and all the supporting hardware, plus a good service. I have to admit, I was a bit nervous doing  this especially after hearing horror stories about the cam adjuster bolt head stripping out during removal. I even bought a 12mm cobalt drill bit and a backup T55 socket just in case things go sideways!
Luckily, I had my friend that came over to help by keeping a firm grip on the cam bolt tool and the lower breaker bar while I crack it loose from the upper part. Crisis averted.
The Parts List (Bought & Fitted by Me)
☑️ INA cam chain & tensioner
☑️ VW OEM cam adjuster bolt
☑️ Elring VVT seals (x3)
☑️ INA cam follower
☑️ Elring HPFP seal
☑️ Elring rocker cover gasket
☑️ Mann oil filter
☑️ Febi Bilstein 5W-40 engine oil & new sump plug
☑️ APR Blue (R8 style) ignition coilpacks
☑️ NGK BKR7EIX Iridium spark plugs x4
☑️ HPFP fuel Line Upgrade,Converting the fuel lines from the early-model banjo style to the later-model push-fit setup (and drilling a 5mm hole on the new HPFP bamboo fitting).
☑️ DV Relocation Kit brought from aliexpress paired with an OEM K04 throttle intake pipe and a blue silicone throttle body hose from eBay.
Luckly I Bought 2 cam bolt poly drive sockets. 1 is a Laser brand and the other is a BGS brand. Tried the laser Polly drive socket first and it shattered but luckly didn't damage the cam bolt head, then tried the BGS Brand and it came out perfectly👍.
Aside from the VW OEM cam adjuster bolt (sourced from VW Coverdale), all the service and cam chain, gaskets etc from Autodoc & Awesome GTI for the coilpacks and spark plugs.
There is such a massive sense of satisfaction that comes with doing all the work yourself and learning as you go. Not bad for someone who isn't even a mechanic! 😂.

Mk5 General Area / Clutch pedal stuck down only after heavy breaking on track.
« Last post by SwedeGTI on June 14, 2026, 04:35:34 pm »
Hi!

Hopefully you can help me identify what is wrong here. My car is a manual Edition 30 running stage 2. With upgraded clutch Sachs performance and dual mass flywheel, car has only around 50k miles.
I have fully bleed and flush the brake fluid several times in the most careful way possible, added Motul RBF 600 DOT4, the one I got recommended to use on track.
The clutch pedal gets stuck down ONLY after heavy braking, mostly after the long straights on track. I pull it up with the foot and then it works like normal again for the whole lap (I got use to do that at this point)
I have only been able to replicate this on track, it usually happens after two or three laps, so it has to do with something heating up is my guess.
I am using a BBK from brembo with 4 pistons and 365mm discs, front, also bigger brakes on the back A4 S4 calipers.
