Decided to sell my MK5 golf after 5 years of fun.  Looking to get a Octavia vrs.  Are they basically a golf underneath?  So have the same +'s and negatives. Anybody driven both back to back.

One’s an iconic design and the other, err, isn’t...I wouldn’t if I were you.

Selling a real GTI to buy a cheaper wannabe GTI makes zero sense to me.

Yeah the mechanicals are similar but you really can see and feel the difference when it comes to the interior quality pecking order.   Skoda bottom, through Seat to VW in the middle, and Audi top.

does the OP need more boot space? If not then only other reason to get the Octavia is presumably will be a lot newer model year and have more tech in it?

I’ve had the last 2 Octavia VRS models. I had a 245 before the mk5 that I bought in April. The Octavia is far bigger somehow though minimal difference in length in the car. Other than that they are pretty similar. The golf is maybe one notch up on materials used though build quality is equally as good in both
