Title: Bens Black GTI - Now for sale
Post by: bbfb10 on May 12, 2014, 01:32:39 pm
Thought I should start a thread on here, Im now on my second MK5 Golf, the first being a GT TDI that was written off, and now my GTI. I couldnt be happier with it, a GTI has always been the car Ive wanted to own since I started driving many years ago.

Here are a few pics that the dealer took.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fr697%2FBbfb10%2Fe99bb1ce322cbed5c15f0bdbd8d2b0b9_zps41ce9718.jpg&hash=1c68a96e816c9e28b87192043fdd6bdd8727142c)

After a bit of negotiation, the car was mine. I had never driven a DSG before, so this was a bit of a new experience for me, but after a very short time I was in love with it.

Spec is as follows:

2005 (55) 5 door GTI
Black Magic Pearl paint
DSG
18" Monzas
MFSW
Leather Interior
Xenons

Im quite new to the car scene, but have plans for a few mods already.

In no particular order they are:
Highline Clocks
Kenwood DNX520VBT (already sourced)
New Intake
Kick Plates
Seat Handle Inserts
Remap

The car is going in to VW Parkway in Derby next week to have the front wings replaced under the 12 year corrosion warranty, hoping to get the rear valance colour coded at the same time. The wheels are in need of a refurb, but that can wait for the minute.
Im mainly looking to start with cheap mods as lm unemployed due to disability, so any comments or suggestions of what I can look at improving will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for looking.

Looks nice and with a healthy spec!
I'm from Derby so let me know how you get on at Parkway in terms of corrosion repair.
Also worth querying about coilpack recall!

Cheers  Barbervw. Its a great car to drive. Its booked in for the wings to be replaced 100% covered by VW. I took it in having had it for 3 days, told them l knew about the email mentioned in the "Possibly good news for everybody" thread. Was offered 50% by VW. I rejected this on the spot, spoke to VW customer care and kicked up a bit of a fuss. They then offered me 100%. Easy. I was especially chuffed as l used the rusty wings to get a good chunk off the asking price.  :happy2:

Dropped it off at VW Parkway earlier. Got a UP as a courtesy car (yuk!!) so got to wait a few days until the wings are done and l can pick up my car. Pics to follow when l get it back.

Had the car back from VW Parkway a few weeks now, should have posted pics earlier, but things got on top of me a bit. Anyway, here are the results.

Near Side
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fr697%2FBbfb10%2F9b6d6aed5e5eee1b5efc69edab4c1dc1_zps7e4e06a2.jpg&hash=5dc1d38cc0236c7965796697d7853ec8d2de542e)

Off Side
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fr697%2FBbfb10%2F5cf65516e96155a981cf64578b98bbe2_zpsb879c253.jpg&hash=da205c3e556328d07e75cb49ae1247ba59a9fa48)

MUCH better, and l have to say that the service l received at Parkway was really good too.

Also I purchased a few minor mods from Waynevr6 on here which lve now fitted.

Seat inserts
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fr697%2FBbfb10%2F246c27fed263cbe04ca6117db6215ecb_zps52123e3c.jpg&hash=678cb190b466828c3b31c734c940c58df1dd244e)

The seats look SO much better with these, I think they fill the handle really well.

I also fitted some DSG paddle extenders, will post pics in a bit.

Comments welcome, as always, but before you say anything I know my car neads a wash!

Thanks for looking,

Ben.

Thanks Demon.

Here are the DSG extenders, love the look of them, they make changing gear so much easier on a 'spirited' drive, especially around the country lanes.

More updates to come soon, hopefully!

I know its high. It came with full history with receipts etc. its been well looked after. All recalls etc done, and all parts replaced with VW. Was expecting to find some corners cut, especially at the price l paid, but everything l look at on the car is quality. Its got a full set of Goodyear F1s on it too which was a welcome bonus.

Having not done much to the car for a LONG time, spent the last few days trawling eBay etc.., for bargains to improve the interior of the car. So far lve purchased Chrome window/mirror/light switches, Interior LED's, most of a Boot pop kit and a Cherry Red hazard light switch. Along with a new PCV, Rev G Diverter Valve, new wing mirror case to replace the broken passengers side one, and some trim removal tools, should smarten the car right up. Pics to follow.

My Chrome Switches arrived on Saturday from AliExpress (http://www.aliexpress.com/item/OEM-VW-Chrome-auto-Headlight-switch-rearview-side-mirror-switch-Door-window-switch-for-VW-CC/868647665.html) so today I set about fitting them. I used the guide from the "How To" section on here and was done in about 15 mins.

The old knackered headlight and drivers side window switches:

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fr697%2FBbfb10%2F773ff35746812db5fde750c77cf13a2a_zps83c9b90f.jpg&hash=4f7e2448504fc7bc52d3e4554769e2ffe95e9db1)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fr697%2FBbfb10%2F29cf12493b7f89a4a602214676660448_zps8b6794d6.jpg&hash=3d18a24c37f387b8cb13db6a6dec8105a1025b43)

And the new tidy switches.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fr697%2FBbfb10%2F238466e31252063ad9fcf3040cce4a1d_zps543f9dd1.jpg&hash=4c4c11da02dba0c2a7889719fd67977c3bd5f6b4)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fr697%2FBbfb10%2F3b1a92c6085dde8f70dab4bf427436c2_zps759024d8.jpg&hash=6ae1f9eb1553c1e8df06d1f3da5339e335b912f5)

Much better.
Did the wing mirror switch and all other mirror switches at the same time. Looks so much better now. But I now need to replace the grab handles as these are looking incredibly tatty.

Next mods will be the Cherry Red Hazard Switch when it arrives, and hopefully a new head unit at the same time.

Any and all comments welcome. Thanks for looking.

Ben.

Forgot to say, I added the interior and number plate LED set last week too. Top service from Matt, ordered and dispatched the same day, I had them fitted the next day. Easy job and I managed not to blow a fuse this time! Still unsure why my footwell lights dont work, any ideas?

Thought I'd put this here as a reminder to myself.

Mods Already Fitted.

Carbon Fibre Paddle Shifters
GTI Seat Inserts
Chrome Switches
Interior LEDs
Passenger Side Wing Mirror Cover
Tinted Indicator Lenses

Purchased But Not Yet Fitted.

Rev G Diverter Valve
Rev R PCV
Cherry Red Hazard Switch
Underseat Drawer (Passenger Side Only)
Boot Pop Mod (Still Needs Coding In)
Highline Clocks (973 to work with MFSW)

TO DO

Kenwood DNX520/521 or RNS 510, buying the RNS would mean I would have to purchase a new Canbus Gateway and a Bluetooth Module and an iPod Connection, so the Kenwood h/u looks a more affordable option.
I'm also going to get (in no particular order)
Wheel Refurb (Any recommendations near to Burton/Derby/West Mids?)
Dead Pedal (http://www.creationsmotorsport.com/product-detail.php?pid=142)
Porsche Oil/Coolant Caps
New Interior Door Handles
Intake
Cam Follower

If anyone has any advice on any of these mods, please let me know.

Ben.

If you get an extra long torx screwdriver, you can fit these without touching the glass at all, just tilt glass forward and access is deep from the top.
when undoing the screw a bit of the casting broke off on mine, were screw had corroded in a bit, the hole is far too close to the edge  :fighting:,
so had to use a washer on screw head to bodge it a bit.

Thanks for this, one of my mirror caps is broken anyway, so replacing the cap and indicator lens at the same time, will do that side first to see how tricky it is before I attempt the undamaged side..

I did the same thing, had a look see first, was shocked by how much is crammed in there, then decided to put the cap back on till the long screwdriver arrived from ebay about 300mm long.
The painful bit was getting the cap off with only me fingers, think trim removal tools would of helped but didn't have any at the time.

During a brief lull in the rain this morning I decided I would get my new indicators in the side mirrors and replace the broken wing mirror cover whilst I was at it. I followed this guide (http://www.golfmkv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=103242) and it was easy enough to do. Pretty happy with the end result.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fr697%2FBbfb10%2F5fdc513f9a1d36027f6d69ab47b7ec63_zps38f7d565.jpg&hash=2813e34971001cc33585f1c5b4821af43a824866)

Took the car to Midland VW to fit my Highline clocks, but after over an hour of trying they couldnt get the Immo data from the new set of clocks, however, when they put my car back together, the power steering failed to work. As I had to get home, I booked in for the next day to get this sorted. A new rear hub was fitted and the wheels re-aligned and all was good.

Got an R8 Coilpack from PSI Tuning delivered and fitted today, next job is to have a go at the PCV.

Lots has gone on since my last post, kind of neglected the car for a bit, but now lm back concentrating on it properly again.

Took the car for a full service and had the DV and Cam Follower changed at the same time.
Whilst trawling Ebay and Facebook managed to pick up some bargains:
Powerflex polybushes,
Audi R8 oil and coolant caps,
Chrome fuel release switch,
Forge motorsports charcoal canister piping in red,
R32 rear lights,
GTI sill protectors.

A few weeks ago l was hit by a young driver, his family wanted to pay for the repairs privately so took the opportunity to purchase a PPC GB R32 style rear bumper. Still waiting for this to arrive but when it does will put some pics up.

Yesterday l travelled to Car Electronics Derby to get my new headunit installed. Went from this: (https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fr697%2FBbfb10%2FC4308AE5-CB5E-4EDB-88BD-4D4AE1AB8788_zpsfwdhpts8.jpg&hash=9709f40570385e593e3cd566b5827b53f33d2d5b)
Crappy standard RCD 300, to this:

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fr697%2FBbfb10%2FFDEA2CEF-D83F-4050-BC24-7463C14E2C93_zpsngv99kdd.jpg&hash=9adad118c7b807b195c68a50fbc6f1239e2ed75c)

DNX 521 DAB!!
Swapped my red hazard switch for the darker one lve had in my boot for ages.

More updates to come.

Any and all comments welcomed.

Had a bit of spare time this morning so put Ed30/R32 rear lights on. Have to say the boot trim is a royal pain in the ass to put back on.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fr697%2FBbfb10%2FD10D2541-0E97-487F-B132-6B68D8AA48F2_zpsvuxw2r5q.jpg&hash=7cb28e3cb043aba3f51136192e46ba92557c50cb)

Looks much better.

Then swapped the standard oil and coolant caps for R8 ones.
The oil cap is brand new from Stoke Audi, about £33 delivered l think.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fr697%2FBbfb10%2F6FFEE997-752A-4C53-93B3-1A67B3B71E1E_zpslfqxqjma.jpg&hash=ff85b8946fbed15651c340a1171823887e7b0f50)

The coolant cap l got from a guy on Facebook for £20.  :happy2:

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fr697%2FBbfb10%2FDA55D571-EF05-471C-B780-8567486A91CA_zps7ldrgvjb.jpg&hash=fc47847bf9a4f2bb4e6648f7c91cdf5368a4a1d7)

I will have a play with the caps to get them sitting straight at some point.

As always, any and all comments welcomed.

Ben.

Yesterday l travelled to Car Electronics Derby to get my new headunit installed. Went from this: (https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fr697%2FBbfb10%2FC4308AE5-CB5E-4EDB-88BD-4D4AE1AB8788_zpsfwdhpts8.jpg&hash=9709f40570385e593e3cd566b5827b53f33d2d5b)

DNX 521 DAB!!
Swapped my red hazard switch for the darker one lve had in my boot for ages.

More updates to come.

Any and all comments welcomed.
Been looking to get rid of my RCD300 for ages! Your replacement looks just the job. Is that DAB, Bluetooth, ipod, nav etc? If you don't mind me asking, how much? (and did they fit as well?).

Hi @barlimow

I got the headunit off ebay for around £500, it has Nav, CD, Bluetooth, DAB radio out of the box, iPod lead is extra but only about £15 for a genuine Kenwood one. It is a decent bit of kit, the sound is way better than the standard unit too, lm really pleased with it.

In terms of fitting, lm a complete numpty when it comes to being 'handy' so l paid to have it done, cost about £60, and l couldnt be happier with the service l received. I know a lot of people will say l should have had a go at fitting it myself, but £500 is a lot of cash to me and ld rather get it done professionally than potentially break something. I also got them to swap my hazard switch over while they were doing the install.

Thanks for your comment, if youre local (Im in Staffordshire) Id be happy to let you come and have a look before you shell out for your own. Saying that, after reading all the reviews on forums etc l was pretty sure it was going to be a good choice.

^^ thanks Ben, very helpful.

For £560 all-in, that looks great. Like you, I would want it fitted by someone, and for £60 a no-brainer. Also read that some VW dealers are selling it as well, so might see what they can do, and also see if I can find a decent local place to supply/fit.

Very kind, thank you. Been doing some research since posting, and it looks like a very good option, so is probably "the one", but may take you up on it if I need convincing (albeit I'm in Coventry, so not exactly too local but not a million miles away either).

Thats stupid money @paulw123 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=6346) Ebay is your friend when looking for these l think.

Today, after getting back from Mackenzies VW in Lichfield none the wiser about why my car started shaking at 2000 revs, I decided to fit my Forge Motorsports carbon canister hoses.
I spoke to @th3_f15t (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=8969) after seeing his installed in his build thread, he gave me advice as to what size jubilee clips to buy, so, a trip to Halfords and I was ready to go. Fitting was easy, just a case of getting the original clamps off, removing the hoses and replacing with the Forge ones.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fr697%2FBbfb10%2FF84D1F72-8DEC-499D-B70C-7C18C2FEFC4E_zpskipvao0h.jpg&hash=41b996b08cb36fc1f48a5a35dab4a1a9f4df05da)

Looking good!  :happy2:

Next job is to finally get around to fitting my Forge TwinTake. Hopefully if the weather continues to be nice l will get it done in the next few days.

Thanks for reading. Any comments welcomed.

Managed to source some Highline Clocks which lm picking up over the weekend, also ordered some Eibach Sportlines from @Stamanatic (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=10667). Going to get booked in to get these fitted asap.

Hit one of the many potholes that decorate our roads the other day, the back end of the car sounds like its made up of random bits of metal banging into each other now. Car is booked in at Midland VW next week to sort this out, hopefully its just the springs, which are being replaced with Eibach Sportlines anyway.

Also had a bit of a rush of blood last night and bought myself some TTRS calipers on eBay. These should be delivered next week, so now lm looking at putting together a nice brake set up. Im thinking 340mm discs, Brembo pads and HEL braided lines. Any recommendations?

Post by: th3_f15t on April 09, 2015, 12:46:16 pm
Only today someone listed a set of those calipers pretty cheap! The 340mm discs will be fine, 370mm add extra weight to each corner. If you want to splash out on a good set of discs and pads, get in touch with AKS Tuning as they can supply J-hook discs and Pagid RS pads which are highly rated.

Another trip to Midland VW on Friday to have the injector on cylinder 4 changed.
Car had been running rough for a while, EML light would flash on occasionally. Went to a local Indy VW Specialist who scanned it and "diagnosed" a problem on cylinder 4 so promptly binned my nice red R8 coil pack, put in a crappy black one, turned off the fault light and charged me £80 and had my car for a day. Needless to say next time l took the car out the fault reappeared. Not a happy boy.

While l was at Midland VW getting my suspension changed l booked it in for a new injector the following week. Got it fitted and now the car drives like a dream.

Its been an expensive few weeks on the mods front, with buying Eibach springs, Bilstein shocks, Powerflex bushes, Highline clocks, a new injector AND TTRS calipers. I now need @DaveB@Vagbremtechnic brackets and some discs and pads to go with them. Still waiting to hear back from @vRSAlex (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1981) about what kit he recommends. Once the brakes are sorted, its time for an exhaust.

Managed to pick up some auto folding mirrors with puddle lights and (l think) anti dazzle glass for £140 from a guy on Facebook, the mirrors arrived on Friday, but he forgot to include the door control modules, so is posting those out tomorrow.

Lots of work to be done to the car, just need a few free weekends now to do some work.

Thanks for the comments.

@vw55raz (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=6494) It took so long due to "supplier issues" I ordered the part in Feb when I had a bump in my car, thanks to an inexperienced driver, to get fitted when the top part of the bumper was being repaired. The PPC GB website had them listed as in stock but after a week l had received nothing, no emails, no valance. After a few phone calls I eventually spoke to the boss who blamed the supplier in Germany. Was a bit peed off to be honest, but its on the car now and looking good. One thing to note is that because of the flaring at the bottom of the valance, the arch liners dont fit perfectly. Not sure if the R32 arch liners are differently shaped to accommodate this?

I fitted one of these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/261346495307 and the arch liners fitted well with GTI arch liners. I didn't check but I think they're the same as the R32.

Looks like they have auto-dimming glass too, which is nice!

Will hopefully get these fitted over the weekend.

Afraid theyve already gone. They were reps as it turns out and kerbed/white wormed really badly. The guy who fitted my tyres offered me the right money for them yesterday.

FINALLY got my TTRS brakes fitted today.

Brembo TTRS Calipers
Mintex M1144 Pads
TTS 340mm Discs
Vagbremtechnics Brackets
HEL Braided Brake Lines

Thanks to @DaveB@Vagbremtechnic and @vRSAlex (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1981) for supplying the fitting kit. Have only covered about 20 miles on them so far so cant comment on the performance too much, but they certainly stop the car! Had some squealing from the drivers side, but a few aggressive stop/starts seem to have fixed this.

So after being on my car nearly a whole 24 hours the brakes have had to come off again. The garage that fitted them have employed a total knobhead who forgot to check the tightness of the bolts he used to attach the calipers to the car.

On my way to work this morning I heard a bit of a noise whilst driving along the A38, as l went to slow for my junction there was a horiffic grating noise and the car pulled violently to the left. I managed to control the car and found a suitable place to stop. On examining the car, the caliper on the drivers side was hanging on by the lower bolt only!

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fr697%2FBbfb10%2F7D92FAD6-2EA7-40DC-9E26-A9B203D6807E_zps98xoqw4d.jpg&hash=ec5797ef34a5a92c736d66bbd5c81157c3ff43e0)

Caliper damaged by rubbing on wheel:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fr697%2FBbfb10%2FAFAE3546-E194-41ED-BA33-48FFADD11C80_zpsfcdjhm9n.jpg&hash=3929d3a7d0d69dc5695ce974e2b93e975bc806b3)

Better picture:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fr697%2FBbfb10%2F9F795C70-2C7D-422F-AE11-1C9CE4B55395_zpsgwbeeziw.jpg&hash=18ee88b03ac6ed82bb9325fe24b95f92fd63e921)

All in all Im not happy. Caliper is screwed, and the wheel will need a refurb too. Gutted as lve only had them a month or so.

Post by: Dave7692 on July 22, 2015, 12:24:40 pm
Gutting for you mate, I assume you'll be chasing the garage for a replacement caliper and a wheel refurb?  Thats the least they could do seeing as the affect of mis-fitting the brakes could have been much worse!

Sorry for this pal!

I had somewhat a similar experience with my new AP Racing BBK, the mechanic did not center it properly so that the pad was in continuous contact with the disk.
Went to a trackday and this is the result:

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FParts%2Fcoocked_brakes%2FIMG_6147_zpsqdwrccfi.jpg&hash=21b3fb8377e75364acdb2a50cfb770d6134504c5)

Cooked calipers. I've asked him if he had used the centering washers from AP Racing, he told me there was no need as the calipers centered perfectly.
After this I've changed the mechanic after 4 years. :sad1:

Not good.

The garage have said that the person who fitted the brakes will likely get sacked and have said they will 'put everything right' for me. Im missing work because of this, and as I work for myself,  hopefully it will be sorted sooner rather than later.

So I returned from Cornwall suitably relaxed and sunburned to find my car waiting outside my house. As I didn't get home until late I didn't have a chance to properly inspect the car, but it looked good in the fading light. Got up this morning and had a proper butchers. Initial thoughts are good. Wheel looks 100%, and the brakes aren't too bad either.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fr697%2FBbfb10%2F13E52862-1CE0-47B0-A8C5-E6EC3BB93909_zpsds3w19co.jpg&hash=35068c9d4a7a4771d90fee9d066edbddf8b67f0e)

Only slight gripe is that the colour isn't quite the same as the previous calipers. Old ones were a more 'cherry red' compared to these being more of a Tornado Red, but I don't mind that too much.

Think the modding will slow down a bit now, I have a list of things that I want to do to the car, but the planned mods are expensive and will require some serious saving up.

Managed to get a few little jobs done over the past few weeks.

Tried in vain to get my hands to fit in the hole for changing the sidelight bulbs, sadly, as my hands are massive I had to give up and I didn't fancy taking the bumper off so I went cap in hand to the local Stealers. Paid £1.76 for two new bulbs from them and then got the tiny handed mechanic to put in my LED bulbs instead.

Also fitted the drivers side folding wing mirror and control module, I'm still not convinced that my door card is back on properly, but everything seems to be working ok, so that will do for me. Rain stopped play before I could fit the passengers side mirror, but hopefully Monday will be clear.  Whilst the door card was off I fitted a chrome tipped fuel release flap button to complete the set.

This week I'm hoping to get over to see @Matto (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=4512) to get my "Check Brake Pads" warning coded out and a few tweaks with his VCDS. Fingers crossed that soon I will have my boot pop enabled, footwell lights turned on and, if my CECM is compatible, cornering fogs too.

As always any comments or suggestions welcome.

Thanks for looking.

Both folding mirrors now fitted, as Im sure you all know, they dont fold in that much, but I like having them.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fr697%2FBbfb10%2F25BA9BED-36A8-41B0-8405-15799046490B_zpspvcqhozk.jpg&hash=bacb223557fabdd879290c8496abdb6997cc9ceb)

I used these guides to help with the install, first one I did (drivers side) took a lot longer than the passengers side, but once I knew where all the screws went the second side went on a lot quicker.

Whilst washing the car the other day I felt a bit of bubbling on the rear wheel arches, after a bit of online research I've found that this is not a "common" problem, but has happened a fair few times.  I took the car to my local dealer (TL Darby in Burton on Trent) for their body shop to inspect and the guy there did agree that it was "odd" for it to be happening on both sides, but then informed me that their body shop didn't deal with warranty claims. Brilliant!

I will be taking my car to VW Parkway in Derby asap for them to take a look at it and will report back with what happens. My wing warranty claim was dealt with by Parkway so I'm hoping for a similar result.

Not done much recently, but had a few bits arrive recently. Only one lve 'fitted' so far is a DSG surround sticker from Bold Sport. Less than $20 delivered and covers my standard tatty surround. Also got an R-Tech PCV delete to go on, a Creations Motorsport dead pedal and MK6 heater controls to fit in the next few weeks, just hoping for some time off and decent weather to fit them all.

Couple of things happening next week:

Got a service booked in for Tuesday, going to get them to fit my Autotech HPFP at the same time.
Just purchased a 200 cell Milltek downpipe (being delivered on Tues or Weds hopefully) and am waiting on a catback to come up at the right price to go with it. Once lve got these ready to go l will be after an intercooler and then booking a trip to R-Tech to go straight to Stage 2+.

Downpipe has arrived, Milltek resonated catback purchased.

Big thanks to @bluo (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=9939) and @howie1987 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=10115) for the parts.

Car is being serviced today, then l will be making plans for the exhaust and other mods to go on before a trip to Hinkley.

Busy few weeks with work so have had the car in at the local garage to do a few bits, R-Tech PCV Delete and Autotech HPFP being fitted today.

Took my Milltek 200 Cell Sports Cat Downpipe I bought from @bluo (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=9939) to the local fabricators to have a look at a tiny crack in the turbo flange, they're welding it up and tidying up a few welds for me today too, pics to follow when I get to pick it up this afternoon.

Also had a delivery from Parcelforce today, new Milltek Jet exhaust tips to go on the cat back system I bought from @howie1987 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=10115).

Got a big pile of parts now just waiting to go on, waiting on an intercooler then will book the car into R-Tech for a Stage 2+ tune and DSG map.

Going away to the Lakes on Thursday, car is going in to the garage whilst lm there to have new oil pick up fitted and the Milltek put on. Then its time for a really good clean and think about my next mods.

Im obviously going to get an intercooler ready for stage 2+ but not sure about if l should get other parts that may benefit the car before mapping. If anyone has any knowledge or experience of the following mods ld be interested to hear your opinions:

RS4 Fuel Pressure Return Valve
Runner Flap Delete
Uprated Engine and Transmission Mounts
Uprated Throttle and Discharge Pipes

I know these arent 'necessary' for Stage 2+ but would they help?
Title: Re: Bens Black GTI - Advice Needed.
Post by: Shoduchi on March 29, 2016, 01:08:49 pm
Yes, they will help.

-The RS4 RFV is only needed when you fit an upgraded HPFP.

-Get the Creations Motorsport RFD kit from ebay. Cheap and easily done when cleaning the intake manifold, that our engines need anyway.

-Uprated engine and transmission top mounts only needed if you want to lock your engine tight. The OEM won't last as much but can do the job for enough time, I think. They're parts that I'm only going to replace when my OEM ones are busted. I'm considering from Vibratechnics or Revo.

-Whatever you can do to improve the engines airflow will help to achieve a better output.

Dropped the car off at the garage this afternoon to change the oil pick up pipe and fit the exhaust while lm away in the Lakes for a few days.

Looking into getting the Intake Manifold cleaned when lm back, then fitting the RFD from Creations Motorsport.

guess it depends what power, you want. hybrid is probably easier as you just swap turbo, and use same injectors.

Yeah at the minute I'm swaying towards the hybrid. Just seems to make more sense than a k04. And could work out cheaper, as well as getting a new turbo rather than a possibly tired second hand k04.

Power wise, from the R-Tech graphs I've seen, k04 BWAs make about 360bhp and up to 400lbft with the right bolt-ons, and they got 360bhp and about 370lbft from a Beach Buggy Turbos k03 hybrid, on standard k03 injectors.

Strong case for the hybrid, but then the bread and butter k04 swap is tried and tested. I think either option will make me happy.

Yeah I definitely agree. I brough the k04 throttle body pipe as an impulse buy so decided to stick with the k04 setup. only need the turbo now but I'm thinking of sending it to BBT for a refurb and maybe hybrid parts but I'm not sure i'll need it tbh. stock to 360+ is a big jump  :driver: :driver:

If anything, the anti surge wheel is a good idea. The k04 itself should surpass what a bwa/axx can handle anyway, so apart from the anti surge you shouldn't need to upgrade it.

You're still on 200bhp?

Good man! I spoke to Steve at Statller and he says it's only really aggressive boost and torque past 400lbft that causes problems. It's all in the mapping.

What hardware/software/figures are you on?

Brand new k04/injectors
Cts hard pipe and muffler delete
Cts runner flap delete
Apr Intercooler
Revo ceramic intake
Milltek TBE
Revo stage 3 mapping
355bhp and 365ftlb

And the mapping has been held back so if I decide it needs more it's got more

That's impressive. Any figures. I was thinking of revo but they are generic and aggressive which wasn't what I was looking for. Custom map all the way. we will have to compare figures when done.

It's slightly laggier then k03 but not by much but when the k04 kicks in you know about it I wonder what a tte420 feels like  :rolleye:
To be fair I do want to head up to RTECH to do their magic but I'm happy how it is for now until I get bored and put a CDL lump in and tte420 that :signLOL:...

TTE420 in a front drive car would be mental.

I reckon you're probably close to the sweet spot with those figures. Past 400bhp would be a handful. But I suppose a diff would help.

The thing I don't want to lose is the quick spool of the k03. But for 350bhp+ I wouldn't mind losing a little bit!
