Title: ***Black Edition 30***
Post by: StevenW007 on June 23, 2011, 08:14:21 pm
Evening all,

Not been a member on here long but I have already made a few posts and tapped in to the wealth of resources. Just introducing my edition 30. Bought it as a replacement for my MK4 Anniversary and I love it.

Has loads of extras, low mileage and already I have a few plans in the pipeline. Nothing radical just OEM+ really

Only had the car for a month now but pics are below:

Well I managed to get a few bits done over the weekend. Pics below

RNS510 (LED). Also updated maps to V7 ones since the seller forgot to do this and shipped it to me with V5 or 6 maps. Got to say I am loving this bit of kit. Installation was pretty straightforward thanks to a guide from the R32OC forum that I followed.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fstevenw007%2FEdition_30%2FIMG_0317.jpg&hash=81782a27327bf9e29fa5582731666fb880aedb65)

Next came the 'GTI' deadrest and seat inserts. As you can see I decided to mount a red backing to the logos and i'm very pleased with the results

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fstevenw007%2FEdition_30%2FIMG_0301.jpg&hash=6df8be9ed9996d229b73551e8e47a5c6dad6ed03)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fstevenw007%2FEdition_30%2FIMG_0303.jpg&hash=33e754b563ace7bee417a736b5c6a1d747e6ae8d)

Then came the limited edition plaque which VW had sent me. Got to say I was very impressed with the time it took for VW to get this out to me. Rang on the Friday and was told that I would get a call on the Monday. Call came on the Monday and the plaque was ordered. Plaque was then delivered by Royal Mail Special Delivery on the Wednesday.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fstevenw007%2FEdition_30%2FIMG_0309.jpg&hash=a577ef52d651734b33c3b1056ced10fcb5447f52)

Finally I installed the S3 jacking points. This isn't a cheap mod at around £50 for the parts but I have the wheels off quite a lot to give them a good clean so in my opinion its worth it in the long run. Really easy jacking the car up with them.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fstevenw007%2FEdition_30%2FIMG_0320.jpg&hash=fe54ad13eb5545abac1df91f8bb166bd1fdd5ac3)

Next on the list is wheels to Aerocoat for a refurb. Got these all boxed up and ready to go. Can't wait to get these back and back on the car. Will post up some pics once I have them on. After that its a full detail and paint correction required so watch this space

Good progress so far ste, a member called 'cossy' used aerocoat for his ed30 alloys sometime last year.

Sure you'll be really happy with the overall finish   :happy2:

Thanks Guys. Frodo I couldn't find any pics of the ed30 alloys in the aeromax finish but having just searched for Cossy's post I can't wait to get them back. Should be perfect on a black car.

Good luck with your search for an ed30, you will find the one you want i'm sure  :happy2:

Got the wheels back from Aerocoat today and I am very impressed with their work. I decided to ship my wheels all the way from Manchester to Norfolk to get them done by Aerocoat after seeing various threads on what they managed to do to the 25th anni wheels.

Pics are below but its very difficult to get a picture showing the true colour. They have a nice hight gloss but depending on the lighting either appear as a brighter silver look to a darker anthracite look. Anyway I will let the pics do the talking. Spent 3 hours tonight polishing, waxing and sealing them. Tyres going on tomorrow then they will be going back on the car after I have painted the wheel hubs.

Lovely that mate

I love subtle touches.

Do you have a part Nr for the jacking points?  Assuming it will be the same on the Leon

Can you tell me how you got hold of your number plaque please?

I know there is a whole topic on the number plaque but I would like to double check with you to make sure it's still same.

Thanks

Do you have a part Nr for the jacking points?  Assuming it will be the same on the Leon

Part numbers for S3 Jacking points as follows:

8P0 802 845 - Front Left Jack Pad - 1 of required
8P0 802 846 - Front Right Jack Pad - 1 of required
8N0 804 583 - Rubber Buffers - 4 of required
8P0 802 847 - Plastic Jack Pad Plugs - 2 of required

Hopefully someone else can confirm if they are the same on the leon but to be honest I can't see why not. Soo much easier jacking the car up and safer too.

Well considering how difficult and long it took to get my plaque from VW when I had the 25th Anniversary I was expecting to have to 1. Fight for it and 2. Wait a long time. Now to my surprise it was an absolute doddle. Here are the steps I took.

1. Rang VW customer service to request my plaque on a Thursday
2. Car reg was taken and I was advised that they would need to cheque that the car hadn't already had one assigned and sent out previously and that I would get a call on the following Monday.
3. Sure enough call came and I was advised that the plaque would be sent out via special delivery to my home address.
4. Wednesday plaque arrives and i'm a happy bunny  :happy2:

Thanks for all the kind comments guys. High temperature paint turned up today so hopefully tomorrow I can get the hubs painted then wheels back on over the weekend. Might have to wait though as i'm off to Zante on Monday.

With regards to the seat inserts I actually got mine off the bay. Just used sticky pads to stick them down rather than superglue as if I ever want to remove them that will be much easier than superglue. Did use superglue for the red lettering though.

Back from a heavy week in Zante now and thought right I need to get the wheels on. Just before going though I did manage to clean the exhaust and paint all 4 wheel hubs.

First job was the wheel hubs. This took me a good 5 hours as I had to give each hub 2 coats of paint allowing 30 minutes in between coats. When you only have 1 decent jack (not including the rubbish scissor jack that comes with the car) and no axle stands it proved a time consuming job. Anyway I don't have any before pics but I'm sure you can all picture the surface rust that builds up on them almost instantly.

Here is a shot after I had finished painting but still has all the masking tape on.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fstevenw007%2FEdition_30%2Fhub.jpg&hash=abbfd7f747d1fd426042b44c1e9993dbd189810d)

Then I decided to clean up the exhaust and leave the wheels until I got back off holiday. Here are the before pics, and as you can see the pipes were looking a little sorry for themselves. I used Autosol metal polish which was great stuff.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fstevenw007%2FEdition_30%2FExhaustBefore2.jpg&hash=6402b1c32412de305b66595ec28f1cc45907b3ff)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fstevenw007%2FEdition_30%2FExhaustBefore1.jpg&hash=cd6b5ef4f95b379e34f1cd356856d3eb36c37508)

During cleaning

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fstevenw007%2FEdition_30%2FExhaustDuring1.jpg&hash=4068929fe2050e0b2b3a75204649c71d8fc62e6a)

Finally after lots of elbow grease and some assistance from a trusty dremmel here are the results

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fstevenw007%2FEdition_30%2FExhaustAfter1.jpg&hash=f8ed17b695145833ac1bfbf3a2304acfb060d52b)

Now I landed home at 15:30 went straight home dumped my suitcase and got straight to work on putting my freshly refurbished wheels on. These were done by a company called aerocoat and I am extremely pleased with the result. Hope you like
