Title: High compression pistons Vw golf ed30
Post by: Zish5595 on August 30, 2020, 09:52:46 am
Hi, I have a Vw golf gti edition 30 which I have replaced the head of. Aswell as the head pistons have also been replaced. Since the pistons have changed on idle the car  starts hunting when revs drop below 1k my mechanic has advised me that my pistons Compression is 15.5 bar per each piston. How can this be fixed?

Do mean that was the result of a compression test?  15 bar is about right for a new engine. I doubt it's the cause of a hunting idle.   Since the engine has been completely dismantled, it's time to recheck everything for timing and vacuum leaks.

My mechanic has told me that it’s running really high for it to be running 15 bar, he’s saying it’s equivalent to 230 psi which is really high but has stated it should be around 12 bar running 180 psi does this sound right? Also with the compression ratio being  as high a 15 is the car still okay to drive?
