Title: R32 engine swap
Post by: Baileygtibray on July 10, 2019, 12:44:35 pm
Right, so over the winter I want to engine swap my 2.0tfsi gti.
I would like to go down the r32 route, with a high possibility of turbocharging it. I’ve done my research for that so I’m okay in that area.
My main area that I need help with is the gearbox. As I want to keep this front wheel drive. Yes it will be a handful. Yes it will torque steer but this is how I want my car.
Now, is it just as simple as using the r32 flywheel and clutch and using my 6 speed Manuel gti gearbox? Or is there a different combination I’ll need to use. I have seen a kit that lets you use the r32 box, but blanks off the transfer case. Can I do this?
Another thing is if I do use the gti box will it fit in the engine bay? Is the r32 lump longer than the 2.0tfsi?

Thank you to anyone who can help me

4 cylinder gearbox won't fit a 6 cylinder.

Those v6's are quiete big engines should be enough for a 4 cylinder?

The 6 cylinder bell housing is a different shape than the 4 cyl, so again, it won't fit.

Why will it torque steer?

I do love a good project. Is it silly to ask why you don't just get rid of the gti and get an r32 then turbo charge it and remove the rear prop shaft?  :popcornsoda:

Would make sense, you can pick up R32s dirt cheap these days.
