Title: Traceys Grey Bagged MK5 - 14/02/16
Post by: Tracey on August 24, 2014, 09:04:03 pm
Alright lads, Aidan here from Ireland, due to no sites over here ive been on this for last few months! Been over at UD last year was class compared to the shows here! will definitely be back again!  Just picked up my new Mk5 golf today, Sold my MK4 a few weeks ago and wanted to upgrade to a 3 door grey MK5, got close enough to it , picked up a grey 5 door in very good condition at a good price so im fairly happy !  My last golf went a bit extreme with the work i had on it, ended up giving me a lot of trouble so had to move on to something a bit newer, Have a few plans for this but nothing to extreme  :happy2:

Anyway, This is my old car and new car, It's a 05 TDI 105BHP ... In great condition Engine wise, Interior and Exterior other than both front wins have a bit of rust on the lips and the back badge has that wormy effect.. Delighted with it now tbh and looking forward to doing few things to it!

Already have few parts and stuff here for it... Got myself a R32 rear bumper without the exhausts, Got a set of 18" RH ZW4 with the centres done in Dolphin Grey, Cant wait to have them on! Also have Air suspension to go in, in about a month. Will be getting GTI side skirts or something aswell soon... Have a glass stopper for the De-wiper and white interior lights on the way so should be here soon.... Father has a MK6 so convinced him to give me the Light Switch with the silver surround on it  Winning...  Should be getting the Wings, Side skirts and Back bumper done over next week or so, and the wheels on by end the week so will update then  :happy2:

Looking good...great start. Front conversion is spot on. The rear looks off colour though (or is it just me)....

Other plans other than air..?!? Front splitter....xenons...?!?

Looking good so far, nice additions :happy2:

I'm not convinced that the paint job is the best it could be though, the colour doesn't quite match. It might be worth seeing what the paint shop say about that if that is the case.
Sorry to put a downer on it and I'm no paint expert, just thinking from a paying customer perspective.

100% xenons....so much better than standard lights..!!!

The other side if that is that they don't and actually look much worse, opinions vary ;-)
The light output is not in question but I think the xenon lamps look a bit grotesque

Yeah I like the look of the xenons and the GTI lights... might get a pair around xmas!
Gave the car a big detail yesterday and today.
- Snow foam
- Dodo Juice Shampoo
- Dryed Car
- De-tar (was very bad)
- Meguires Clay Kit
- Coat of Britemax Polish
- 2 Coats of Britema Sealent
- Coat of Kleenfreaks wax

Some difference now from before... the De-tar and clay did a serious job.. Ill get some pictures later this evening when the battery for camera charges up :happy2: :happy2:

Have you Had it notched that should get you lower man? its looking good so far though, :happy2: its looking really Clean too! did you do the chrome strip on your front grill yourself? i'm looking to colour the red strip, and wanted to go for chrome i didn't know if people wrap them or spray it, or even if you can buy a chrome strip?

My guess would be that it's your tyres stopping you from going lower, a smaller profile would probably sort it.

Try a wrap, more resilient.

The paint chips off with stones!

I dont think its even going down low enough for a notch! its not a chrome strip, i just got that painted the same color as the car (grey) when got the few bits sprayed! Looks good though

Need to trim your arch liners (or heat them up like mental with a heat gun and then air the car out and leave it for a little while...and have a chassis notch on the drivers side.
I could lay frame with 225/40 tyres on Monza 2s, also depends what bags you have as yours are clearly not the air lift slam series.

Good progress.

Came home today to find this box waiting for me :D .. R32 tail lights and R32 Rear badge... managed to get both these for 100€ (85£) which is a steal! Was an R32 been broke  He actually only sent me the boot badge, not the whole boot popper part which i needed so hes going to send me on that now. The tailights are a massive improvement! only thing I can fault them on is that the left one has a lot of overspray on them, So going to give it a clay and see how it comes out, if any one has any other ways to get it of ill give it a go :happy2: Other than that I cant see where I could go wrong with 100€ as I seen the tails going for 150£ here!

My previous car was a little 3 door Up... And I loved it to pieces.

Onwards and upwards they say! I just wish I'd bought a 3 door

Not a big update  Finally got my 2 gauges sorted for the air fitted nicely in car, was originally going to put them in the drink holders but taught it would look better in the ashtray in front of the gear stick! Didn't take long to do only about 2 hours, I think it looks very nice and tidy!

Has been a quiet winter. Not much has been done since, very busy in final year in Uni.

I put in a set of HID's that I had left over from my MK4  So much better than normal. I also said Id try spray the 3 plastic inserts that go into the steering wheel as they were very worn. Sprayed them reflex silver and they go very well with the trim  Should have my Rear Reflector soon have it ordered

I also got LED interior light kit from Ebay which are very nice and bright in the dark, got the number plate lights too, should have got pictures in the dark, but o well  :P Going over to the UK on Tuesday for few nights  to Manchester  :happy2:

Another small update with a few nice touches.

1. One of my wing mirrors was broke when I got the car so the guy I bought it of sent me out a replacement.  I said id try something different and spray them black. Turned out well.. Not to glossy so im happy. Not a great sprayer but id tackle a few small parts.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fhh500%2FAidan_Tracey%2FDSCI0159_zpsqxtzznrh.jpg&hash=d6afe1ed41b8d67bfdbe13a1626939bcfb6be5bd)

2. While I was doing the mirrors I seen that my engine cover was very dirty so I sanded it down and gave it a few coats of Black.
Also cleaned out the Engine bay while I was at it. Looking very clean now  :happy2:

3. My rear reflector from R32 bumper has been gone with about 3 months so decided id get of my arse and get a new one  Was very surprised with a price of €16 from the dealers!  :happy2:

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fhh500%2FAidan_Tracey%2FDSCI0160_zpsry7kakim.jpg&hash=996083d348f498f5e71a73365c01786611479d7c)

4. Had my wheels of for winter so I Split them and polished the lips. In two minds to sell these and get something else with better fitment. I sprayed my calipers Silver as they were pure dirt. Also sprayed the outside of my disc as they were filty dirty and rusty. Looks a lot better now anyway so happy  :happy2:

Been a busy 2 months! Not on the car though  :P Finally handed in my Thesis for college! Also got accepted for an indoor spot at Dubshed in Belfast so im trying to do a few bits to the car for that!

I picked up a MK6 boot handle, looks so better than the white worm mk5 one! I also swapped over the fog light cover from my old rear lights to the R32 rears, The gray on both sides go very well with the car  .If things go well I should have a pair of Depo projectors by the end of the week  Hopefully another few bits aswell so will keep updated  :happy2:

Bit of an update:

Car has had nothing new since last post as I went travelling America for 3 months in the summer so didn't do anything car related!

Before I left I sold my wheels as I was just sick of them. When I retuned home last week the battery was f**ked so ended up getting a new battery. Got a new windscreen fitted today as other one was cracked.

Graduated from Uni last week so im on the job hunt now, once I secure a job it will be time to kick on with this car. Im waiting on a few small bits for the car now:
- AUX button for in front of the gear stick.
- Cherry red hazard switch
- New chrome AC knobs for the switches.

Few plans for the car for winter hopefully includes:
- Service & few small bits end of September.
- New front struts so I can lay frame as current ones are to high.
- RCD510.
- New flushed grill in either gloss or matt black.
- Boot pop mod.
- Re-map & few more bits.
- New wheels, thinking along the lines of Vossen CVT(really like these), BBS CH or Rotiform BLQ/IND

Will give a update when I get the few small bits done and wash the car :happy2:

Another update:

Managed to get a good job 4 weeks ago, BUT; I fractured my leg playing soccer 5 days before due to start, Ive been in a cast since and getting it of next Thursday, luckily they have the job held for me and hopefully be starting in 2 weeks time. Haven't been much done to the car as haven't been drove much or money.

I replaced the front window, flushed the front grill and plasti dipped it, cherry red hazard switch, aux button, then just a service and and abs sensor fixed.

I have my NCT(Irish version of DOE) later this month, and I may have to take out the air suspension. It should pass first time, but now I am in 2 minds to either keep it, or bring it back to standard and move up to an 06/08 GTI my insurance is only an extra 80£ which I was surprised as only 21 and now I have a job so be ok to run it as its only 10 min drive to the job.

I don't hate the 5 doors, it's just the MK5's look so much sportier when 3 door, in my mind I'm thinking to put back in the original parts and keep the good things such as Xexons, R32 rears and possible either sell the Air or keep it for a GTI.

I'm not to sure, tough call. Will give a update later this month on my decision, any one an opinions on what to do?

I'm with Liberty, 21, 3 or 4 years NCB, third party I paid 720 for my TDI and when I rang the other day to see a GTI it was €110 extra or €290 for full comp, I'm only insured a month

I'd sell if I were you....the 1.9 is so restricted to what you can do without paying through the tooth for it....big brakes need loads of changes....hubs, suspension etc....5speed gearbox if your looking to go much faster than standard map (unless u have the 6speed)...if u can go for the GTI do it... Looks great though..!!

So, bit of an update good & bad... I got my front struts re built so I could get lower on the front and I am very happy with them.  I tried on a friends 19" Vossen's yesterday for size as I'm getting new wheels soon and not sure weather to go for 18/19" .. Opinions? I also got the back 3 windows tinted at 35% and I am delghted with it, makes it look a bit more sporty and less of a 5 door
Thinking of getting Rotifrom IND or IND-T's in either 18/19... not quiet sure.

I also took out my DA polisher for the first time last week to try bring my B pillars back to there former glory, came out well in my opinion. (After on left/before on right)

I got round to buying some magnets from Ebay for my number plate.  Haven't actually drove the car yet so hopefully they'll stick.

Also picked up a new Headunit from a friend breaking a MK5, not sure the make of it but im over the moon with it.  has Maps, DVD, BT ,USB and car information. Paid £175 for it and taught it was definitely worth it.

Picked up an airlift 4 gallon tank instead of my 5 gallon chunky one. Re-did my boot build with carpet from only charged dubs, picked up 4 compressor silencers from Ebay and they definitely help with the vibrations. Overall I'm very happy with it as I didn't want anything over the top.

So... the bad news, Had my struts replaced 2 weeks ago and the power sterring light has come on. I got it tracked yesterday and the front was a good bit out but its perfect now, I taught this could have been the problem but light is still on after fault was cleared. The code is :
00573 - Power steering torque sensor - faulty sensor - intermittent.
I have read up online and seems like a need pump will be needed. Has anyone had this issue before and are they any other things I can try that could solve the problem. The power steering is fine its just the light??

I ordered a VCDS cable last week so I should have that tomorrow
