Hi everyone,
I need to get new shocks and can’t exactly afford coilovers/want them tbh.
Where’s the best place to buy sachs/oem absorbers.
Right now I’ve found them for £193 for all four
Any help is appreciated

I put on Bilstien B4 shocks on mine. Pretty much OEM specs as far as I could tell. Came in about the same price as the Sachs you are looking at from TDC automotive on eBay. That was in 2016

Anyone know what the B6 are like? I know they're stock length so can be used with stock springs but that's about it.
-
Are AP shocks any good?
-
Sachs are good, bilsteins better - try autodoc for prices
AP are the budget range in the group of AP/Weitec/KW - the good news is AP don’t just calculate damping requirements like some manufacturers do, they do test in real life
-
Thanks guys.
I looked into the Bilstiens and normally I’d favour a performance/uprated part to stock, but I live in London. The roads are sh%t and speed humps are everywhere, so can’t risk a bad ride over the undoubted longevity of Sachs.
I’ve just come across Autodoc. What’s everyone’s experience like? They came in a tenner cheaper so its not much difference.
Again, thanks for everyone’s advice, may you all have beautiful cam followers and blessed oil changes

I have a quite a bit off AutoDoc only problem shipping can be erratic and they have a system where you pay a fee and you can return it for any reason most stuff is decent quality

As Titchy says - pretty random delivery.
Both times I used them, they prepared the package and it got picked up by the courier with 24 hours of purchase - it then sat with them for 2 days before it started moving again heading to the UK.
I have noticed they do some really good prices on suspension.
Despite delivery, I personally find them more attractive to use than euro’s, the price is the price, none of the “up to X% off a price, we won’t tell you till checkout, + we artificially inflated the prices for sale items so you are not really getting the X% anyway” BS.
You can pay for faster delivery, but I find it it is a big hike in price for only 2 days earlier

Not sure if Tuningwerks still sell mk5 stuff, based in Croydon so maybe worth giving them a buzz?

The B6 are a monotube damper at stock length so as you say designed to be used with standard height springs but in terms of damper quality it's definitely in a different league to standard.

The AP parts are made by KW over in Germany so great value for money with the quality of them. They're shortened so designed to be used with lowering springs.

I have went Monroe through Autodoc and very good.
Delivery was very slow at about 2 weeks to the North of Scotland which I find is normal.
Very good as long as you are not in a hurry.

Damian What’s the cost and pets items of a full set of shocks as I’m looking to replace my OEM shocks. I’m running 30mm H&R lowering springs too
