Hi Guys,
Former MK5 owner, thought I'd stick up a quick thread on my MK6.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fiian050%2FMobile_Uploads%2Fimage_zpsx2uelvm0.jpg&hash=578f2fb62658c9c0a69c42de8c2c31987f72007d)
Bought it around 3 months ago now after selling my E46 M3.
(https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xaf1/v/t1.0-9/11885397_10207576119704842_223539514585496391_n.jpg?oh=3061709c723c699b8ba8ae833b9b7821&oe=570B3B59)
Was perfect spec for me (white 3dr, xenons, cloth and nav) all except DSG. Had a MK5 GTI with DSG, and always said I'd never buy a manual again, but this was too good a car at too good a price to miss.

Drove it standard for all of a week before I found some brand new FK Highsport coilovers for sale on gumtree for an absolute steal. Normally would write off any coilovers made by FK, however I had the highsports in my last GTI and they were brilliant coils for the money. I've had KWs and Weitecs before, and these easily compete for daily use.
SO stuck them in and fitted a set of CH-R's I'd bought previously.

Next up I bought a set of TTRS / RS3 Brakes for a bit of a steal. Have the better disk option, not that one which warps and causes wheel wobble. (According to the seller) Currently stripped and sanded back for a refurb. Not sure whether to go red or stay black, so feel free to fire opinions at me!
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fiian050%2FMobile_Uploads%2Fimage_zpspswakxi7.jpeg&hash=5d9c77f1a9cc4b5bd8c8c853aa66168420b26777)
Also took advantage of Revo's -25% blackfriday deal, and got the car stage 1 mapped. Couldn't believe the difference. I've had Revo maps before, but this time definitely felt like a bigger jump in performance. Really enjoying the car as a result. Money well spent!
Also have a Eurojet turbo back exhaust, so hope to get that and an intake to jump up to stage 2 soon, along side the clutch.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fiian050%2FMobile_Uploads%2Fimage_zpsmlp95vhw.jpeg&hash=66b129bd9f0a7b30fc79c821c648a4a4fbbd5b84)
Other plans are LED rears, smooth front bumper, wider wings to allow a further drop, maybe some ARBs and chassis mods. See a set of H&R Ultralows on here for fair money, but have a load of other stuff to get first!
Going for a good all-rounder. Something that can hit a track day on Saturday, look good on the show field on Sunday, while still being comfortable and economical to take me to work on Monday morning.
Thanks for reading.

very nice car and some excelent mods

This is looking pretty promising! I'd go for red TTRS calipers if it were my choice :happy2:
-
Lovely looking motor mate
-

Cheers folks!

Looks great Ian.
What did you pay for the brakes if you don't mind me asking? And do they need new lines/hoses etc? I assume they aren't just a straight swap?
-
very tidy m8,loved my cupra candy white once polished up was stunning

Cheers Ian.
They are a straight swap and I'll PM you. Got a bit of a bargain on them.

Its a while since I've last updated.
Been keeping up with the boring stuff, routine maintenance, got it through MOT etc.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fiian050%2FMobile_Uploads%2Fimage_zpsufyit5y0.jpeg&hash=6363691485a828c93c562c73710e3cb7774429f9)
Got the car Revo'd back in December by Chris at TG Performance after getting their black Friday promotion. Great service, and absolutely love the map. Then to carry on the performance side of things, got a Eurojet De-cat turbo back on a few weeks later, after MOT. Exhaust is spot on for what I was after, minimal increase in day-to-day noise but sounds awesome when your going for it. Need to play about to get it sitting exactly right, but otherwise very happy. Especially considering it was less than the price of most cat-backs alone.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fiian050%2FMobile_Uploads%2Fimage_zpshc4swr7i.jpeg&hash=7a39946f5161eb774388e73fa19c3042b80a41a1)
Hope to get an intake sorted then get her mapped up to stage 2, but with other plans this will like be another month or 2 yet.
Otherwise, just been enjoying driving it. My GFs Dad owns a B&B up in Glenarm, which I've been using as an excuse to rake through the Mournes on a regular basis.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fiian050%2FMobile_Uploads%2Fimage_zps8qhjlupi.jpeg&hash=10511919bee80fc03cb7ff3ab065b108720c855a)
Also put the CH-Rs back on despite the winter. Though I'd imagine they'll hold up better to the elements than the factory monzas.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fiian050%2FMobile_Uploads%2Fimage_zpstocnjtye.jpeg&hash=3df45a8c5d1dfbcf3d32bf71ac2ccca4bda76264)
Then most recently I ordered a set of SRS tec 25mm wider wings, so I could run lower without any rubbing issues. I contacted the UK dealer and as luck would have it, he knew of a MK6 Golf set painted in candy white for sale privately. Took a punt on them in the hope they would be a good colour match and save me a few hundred quid having to paint a new set, however Parcelforce seemed to damage them in transit over from England, and don't cover body panels in their insurance, so not so lucky. (Colour match was perfect too! Bastid!) Not any extensive damage by any means, but damaged none the less.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fiian050%2FMobile_Uploads%2Fimage_zpsbc16osr0.jpeg&hash=666767f58a6acafe50905989c9e1accc248c1c12)
Fitted them yesterday (they've to go to paint anyway) and dropped the car down to go into max lowz sc3n3 mode.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fiian050%2FMobile_Uploads%2Fimage_zpsn8eabtxc.jpeg&hash=747cb7a6c808b08ac4416148d72bafe614e5eac1)
Love how it looks but it's in dire need of a chassis notch, so will be raising it up in the mean-time. And if I'm not happy with how it drives post-chassis notch I'll probably just raise it back up and get rid of the wings and not bother with sc3n3 lowz altogether. Want a good all-rounder, and I'm getting to old for this low car trailing about everywhere carry on.
Otherwise, it's going to get the number plate recess smoothed and wings repaired soon, then brakes fitted, intake and stage 2. Also have a set of LED tail lights on the way. Should be done by Dubshed and leave me free to enjoy the car for the better weathered months. Hoping to try some drag / track / hill climb days with it too.
I'm sure there's other stuff I've forgotten to add, but sure.
Cheers for reading.

This is really nice. Those CH-Rs suit the mk6 even more than the mk5!
To my eye it sat perfectly before you dropped it more with the wide wings. I've done all the chassis-notch business in the past in it turns into a farce... seems all your budget goes on sorting out the trade-offs of being spazzy low.
And it's nice to be able to drive a car without holding your breath when you see a small twig in the road..
Nice motor.

Sweet motor mate ive just purchased a candy white mk5 wish id of saved a bit harder and gone for the mk6 having seen this haha! :sad1:

I know what you mean mate, I wasn't a fan of the mk6 when it first came out but after a while I've grown to love it, and seeing examples like this that have been done properly just makes me like the shape more.
Still need to be won over by the mk7 though..!

If I'm honest, I'm pretty close to swapping it back to how it was before after 1 day. I absolutely love the look, and in an ideal world, that's how it would be. But when it's your daily and your wrecking CVs, trailing subframes, and scraping bumpers etc. f*ck that. Just end up having to throw money at it, and resenting the car.
Rather have it more sensible and get some enjoyment out of driving it, rather than just making it look well.

It actually looked slammed on the Highsports mate - if it was hassle-free and handled well with that setup then surely that's the thing to do!

Lovely mptor. What a doffernce a set of coils and wheels makes. Totallly transformed

I love this thread!

Stuck a Forge induction kit to make the jump up to stage 2 there during the week. Otherwise not much to update, just been driving away at it and keeping on top of maintenance etc. Seeing it's tuned and would get driven hard, I'm sticking to 5-6k service intervals just to keep everything running sweet. It's also driving really really well despite being so low. No rubbing, no issues, just get in and drive.

Yes lovely looking mk6! How do you find it compared to the mk5?
Standard it was much the same as my mk5, but not really comparable now with all the work. Interior is a far nicer place to be in the MK6's though.
Thanks for the comments folks
-
Absolutely stunning! I am thinking of making the switch to the MK6. Been worrying myself by reading the horror stories about chain tensioner failure though....

love this don't think I would change a thing. perfect!

Car's for sale now, but will be splitting later this week unless I get any solid interest prior.
If anyone's interested in parts, let me know.
