Hi, Thanks for the positive comments, I'm based just south of Guildford so never really venture towards Croydon but was actually thinking of paying a trip to Tuningwerkes soon, have you been there yourself?

I used Tuningwerkes for all my modifications on my GTI, and everything was spot on. I would probably only use them or JKM in Portsmouth.

Not yet, I only live about 1/4 mile away from there as well! Only had my car a month and it already had a stage 1 remap, not got the money for anything else at the mo.

I'll be getting down there soon to let them give it the once over!

I think JKM is quite a drive for me but will definitely check out Werkes in Croydon, do you have a link to the modifications you did to your white Gti as the link is broken in your signature, Thanks

Hi Lucky,

I removed most of my build thread if I remember correctly, because I put the car back to standard to sell. If you ask anyone that knows me they'll tell you that I'm the pickiest person in the world, and barely trust anyone with the car.

I've had so much done by Reuben there, including:

APR RSC exhaust
Cruise control fitted
Carbonio intake (i know its easy to fit, but i got it at the same time as the exhaust so just left it to him)
Forge Diverter Valve
Bilstein PSS10 Coilovers
WALK caster kit
Dogmount bush (forgotten the manufacturer)

Other little bits included:

Exhaust mount fix
Removal of my Forge Short Shifter
Removal of the Bilstein coilovers
Removal of APR RSC and re-fit standard exhaust

Since getting the BMW I have had:

Exhaust mount replacement
Thorough check over/test drive
I will be taking it there in the next few months for a service too

Although he is a VAG specialist his brother also runs an E46 M3 - hence why I will continue to take the car to him.

Pop down there and see what you think!

P.S. Welcome to the forum, absolutely stunning car you have there! We do a few meets in the Berkshire area, which isn't too far from you. Keep an eye out!  :happy2:

Wow sounds like the place to go to, I spoke Reuben yesterday on the phone about the parts you listed for him( Thanks for the heads up :happy2:) seemed like a great guy an extremley knowledgeable.

It looks like you did some worthwhile upgrades to your Gti, did you find the walk caster kit a worthy addition?

I will be sure to keep my eye out on the Berkshire meets it would be nice to meet some fellow enthusiasts.

Thanks for the warm welcome an great advice :happy2:

I got the WALK kit fitted at the same time as the Bilstein coilovers, so I can't really say for sure. It's mixed really, some people on here say that it improves turn in, others don't feel a noticeable difference. It definitely made my steering heavier and improved the weight/feel. VW Racing for example don't really like the WALK, so it's quite a mixed bag!

Thanks, It really does handle well but have to adjust the coilovers slightly as they are hitting that plastic clip under the front arch on roundabouts, easy fix though

Welcome, not far - there is a meet at coombe lodge in croydon if you ever fancy it, would be good to have you along sometime just keep a eye out in the meet section for updates.

If you dont mind me asking how much/hard/was involved with the k04 upgrade? did you map straight afterwards?

Thanks for the welcome

I ditched the ko4 conversion and Gti engine in favour for a low mileage S3 engine which obviously comes with a Ko4 as standard, It's been fitted for 5 months now without any issues and the powers is immense with the help of Snow stage 3 wmi/Apr Hpfp/Ths Fmic and a quaife diff.

The original ko4 conversion was done by the previous owner but it never ran asit should, I decided I had enough of a it being so temperamental so had a fresh start.

I think I was pretty unlucky as there are many others who have the ko4 conversion running smoothly with great results.

It's the same as the Edition 30 engine so not too exciting but still pretty quick. I no longer have the the the Kw v3's in the 2nd pic as I switched to Kw clubsports.

This is a serious  Gti!

How do you find the clubsports?  If I can afford to i may switch to ASTs
Title: Re: Hello from Surrey
Post by: luckyGti on April 04, 2012, 11:04:31 pm
To be honest the ride with the v3's were much more comfortable yet still handled superbly, with all the handling mods I have it certainly brings the creaks and rattles to the surface, but I suppose in fairness clubsports aren't designed with comfort/silence in mind especially on the rough uk roads, they do there job very well though.

I would definitely look at getting the Ast's over clubsports,  don't you have v3's already I really can't fault them myself,  maybe you should look at stripping out the interior and having a full cage, I would be up for a group buy from custom cages
Title: Re: Hello from Surrey
Post by: Tfsi_Mike on April 04, 2012, 11:15:41 pm

In fairness the V3s have never been set up propperly on my car.  I dont have any particullar complaints about the handling although they' re very harsh on the Uk roads after spending 5years in germany  :fighting:

I would consider a half cage & geordie/SteveP type interior but not sure what it would do to my insurance.

Mods are slowing right down as Harry is priority but I dont plan on getting rid of the car so it will get done eventually
Title: Re: Hello from Surrey
Post by: luckyGti on April 04, 2012, 11:28:57 pm
I had the same issue of incorrect setup when I first had the cs's fitted, I then had them redone which was a huge improvement but still think they need some fine tuning.

Insurance would be minimal I think due to it being a safety feature but I suppose on the other hand they may see it as your pushing the car to the limits to warrent needing one. It's definitely on my to do list at some stage but at £2500 fitted I need to start saving my pennies or persuade a few owners to join a group buy

There isn't much more to mod on you car so can see how it's slowing down   but yeah the responsibilities and finances have to take priority with the little one, wait till you start taking him for junior karting sessions a whole other money pit for you to go through  :happy2:

hey  mate i live in horsham just wondered if you have any of the bits from your old conversion im stage 2+ at the moment and wanting to go K04

also if u don mind me asking how much does a S3 engine go for??

cheers mate

I sold the complete 50000 mile engine and ko4 turbo for pennies in the end as I just wanted rid of it at the time.

You can pick up a S3/Edition 30 engine for around £1000+ on ebay but have to tread carefully as you won't know the history and whether it actually runs etc.  I paid a reputable tuner to do all the work which cost me a fortune but I wanted the peace of mind knowing the job was done properly in the first place and walking away with warranty and a sound low mileage engine and turbo.

Last rr was 327bhp after the engine was installed, there should be a little room for improvement once the wmi is set up properly.
