Title: Interior Fan Control Problem
Post by: jamie on April 27, 2018, 02:41:46 pm
Hi all,

I wonder if anyone can hep me troubleshoot an issue with the interior fan control on a mk5 Golf.

On the control on the dash, dial steps 1,2,3 seem to do very little, then if I turn the dial to 4 it kicks in.  But it seems to be either all or nothing!  Could this a fault with the switch on the dash?

It’s happening with the air con both on or off so think it’s a switch of some sort?

Thanks.

Sounds like classic heater resistor failure only allowing the full speed of the fan, sorry I don't know what's involved in changing one on a mk5 though!

Does indeed seem like a failure of the resistor, looks like an easy job to replace though. There's a good how to on the pelican parts website in the how to section. https://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/Volkswagen_Golf_GTI_Mk_V/79-ELEC-Replacing_Your_HVAC_Resistor/79-ELEC-Replacing_Your_HVAC_Resistor.htm
