following on from a manual 3dr Edition 30 (from new) see http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,6483.0.html
I still deeply love(d) my Edition 30 , it was modded to my spec, upcoming work was the cam chain (not belt) but these car run forever so 116,000 miles is nothing...
However I have always been looking (don't we all?) , mainly for a tempting Mk7 (7.5) performance pack lease deal , but laterly a Mk7 Clubsport , but in the end family (and a pending house extension) meant I had to peg my aspirations back a little.
Lots of Mk7 's to choose from, even R's but the theft/value aspect of newer car always bothered me.
And one day one of my ebay searches suggested a car a might like , namely an Edition 35..
When buying the Mk5 I chose Black , but had always swithered about Red, so preferred colour was red.
Must have options : heated seats / xenons
Would like to have : Sunroof
Not bothered about : Manual or DSG , Ive tried both , DSG seems better if you want to remap
needless to say in a very short time I had arranged to travel across the country to view the car.
A Mk6 Tornado Red 5dr Edition 35 20k miles with sunroof (basically an edition 30 in a Mk6 bodyshell)

Always liked the 3d gel plates (black not carbon effect) , so this is the first mod!
With it being warm weather, thought Id try using the sticky pads (supplied) this time around for a cleaner look. (normally have to revert to using fixings)
- old plates off.
- clean area underneath
- dry and apply polish
- stick new plates on , warming first with hairdryer
- apply low tack masking tape to hold plates on temporarily.

nice clean lines imo, may even have to think about a private plate.

in this weather transitioning from a/c on to off and back again was extremely smelly/musty !
£10 off eBay. Get the charcoal version.
2 minute job, undo 2 spin clips, pull out and refit new. Can add a can of sanitiser (which also kills anything living in the air tubes) but I didnt bother.
Seems lots better. Result

In order to view fault codes, perform some 'tweaks' I reckoned it was time to finally buy a VAG-COM cable.
Options : Genuine VS Ebay Clone (which cannot be updated)
I chose to support the developers and I scanned ebay for a 2nd hand cable for VAG-COM VCDS.
Buying a new one would be £225 as is 3 VIN limited.
But the older versions also support my needs.
In the end I plumped for a Micro-CAN cable
Lots of info here http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/old-interfaces/uC.php
this supports everything I need for the 2012 Mk6 Edition 35 (short of Turbo mode).
All for £150
Downloaded VCDS 18.2 from below (running on a windows 10 laptop) , hooked up car and its all working..
http://www.ross-tech.com/vcds/download/current.php

horn confirmation was something I had enabled by a forum member way back in 2007 on my Edition 30 (that has just been sold)
So something I wanted to have back in the Edition 35.
This time I bought a genuine cable so I can play with VCDS for this car (see previous post)
The change was made via
Select
>09 Cent Elec
> Coding
> Long Coding
Arrow keys until it selects the right Byte, then toggle on
Locking Confirmation via horn active.
heres how it should look (not my actual car, just an example, ignore all other toggles/settings, leave them as they are)

Do It! , thats it, now enjoying knowing your car is locked without turning around
What I did find on my travels on the internet was that many articles were out of date.
- Module 46 although visible is not available (its been merged into 9)
This change was not possible through Adaptation, I had to do it through Long Coding path
Some guides can be found here

Hows the car running ?
http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Fuel_Trim_Info
hooked up the Micro-CAN cable and got a reading
Group 32 - Field 0 : Adaptation (Idle) - Bank 1 Sensor 1 1.4 %
Group 32 - Field 1 : Adaptation (Partial) - Bank 1 Sensor 1 4.3 %
from what I can tell these are entirely normal values (as expected)
-
Golf GTI Edition 35 : standard boost levels , took the car out for a run, and logged some values
Group 115 - Field 3 Boost Pressure - (actual) mbar peaked at 1900
(the value at idle was 1030, which is current atmospheric pressure)
So thats 1900 - 1030 = 870mBar = 12.6 psi actual boost pressure.
Seem about right as this is still just a modified Edition 30 engine.
Its been a long time since Ive been in an standard car, but the edition 35 seems to pull well and is definitely more enthusiastic pulling in the higher rpms than a stock Edition 30 ever was.
This is mapping related , as i know the Edition 30 remap definitely adds that back in from stock, and one of the big things to notice (above a whollop of increase in boost) , as you gain pleasure taking the car to the upper revs as it feels 'keen'
Coupled to an increased rev limit, thats what makes a remapped Edition 30 feel so much quicker than stock
I have to say for a standard car (having had a remapped ED30 before) it feels pretty darn quick. (some of which is the feeling of speed the DSG gives over manual gearbox)

Love the MK6 ED35
Less seen than the MK6R.
Fantastic rare car for the future. Hold on to it.
-
thanks @Wolf Burger (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=4479) , although I would say Mk6 is just a gorgeous and rare. Have you got a build thread? be good to see your car.
It wasnt until I have actually bought a mk6 how rare they are.
I have never seen another Ed35 , and only 1 R
Kept the last car for nigh on 11 years, preparing to keep this one too, but it will be used, I do 10k miles a year.

@Eighteen88 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=18388)
2 on ebay : https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Schriftzug-Edition-35-Golf-6-GTI-GTD-R32-GT-schwarz-Hochglanz/263927649433?epid=1525359351&hash=item3d73505499:g:8YoAAOSwo6lWP0S3
but very expensive
You could also buy the chrome version and buy the black stickers to go over the top (also on ebay) but not as nice
Or buy the chrome version and plastidip or paint
these badges now just seem to be going up in price significantly unfortunately

@john_o (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=16)
Yeah I noticed them on eBay mate but like you say far too expensive for what they are, I’m meeting up with a boy that’s done a bit of bodywork for me in the past, I’ll mention to him about painting them but my concern would be if they start flaking they’ll look cheap/tacky with the chrome showing through
-
what edition is it again ? fun minimod

replaced the front Dunlop Sportmax with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 , a far superior tyre in every way.
http://johnoldfield.blogspot.com/2018/12/golf-gti-edition-35-new-front-tyres.html (http://johnoldfield.blogspot.com/2018/12/golf-gti-edition-35-new-front-tyres.html)
and rolled up to 30k miles , which is 10k in 6 months of ownership! its getting used at least, just like the ED30 it proves how briliant these cars are as 'all-rounders' . I commute to work, have the odd b road blast, travel around the country and take stuff to the tip. being 5 doors its even easier too with 2 kids.

uses the obd port and will have display lag
similar to FIS (although FIS doesnt use up the OBD port)
for the moment Ill stick with the DEFI boost guage, instant guage feedback is so useful
