I am considering the 034 Street Density engine mounts to join the existing VWR lower mount on my revo stage 1 car in the hope of reducing the pendulum rocking of the engine. Has anyone here used these mounts? I was hoping for some feedback on their effectiveness and impact upon NVH in daily driving. Alternatively, are there other brands more suitable for road use?

Any engine mount will increase NVH. There is no way around it.
-
Sure, I understand there will inevitably be compromises and that NVH is an area of subjectivity. I guess I am looking for an OEM+ type solution which does the least harm / evokes less strong views on NVH than some other models. As my car is now 10 years old, I am going through a process of upgrading original components as they wear out (eg dampers to VWR suspension kit / brakes to J hook discs / upgraded pads) with a view to tightening up responsiveness. As others have noted, this upgrade bug seems quite a rabbit hole to fall down!

Why not just replace them with OEM mounts. Will be firmer than the worn mounts you have now???

I did that, but they just don't last! It's the gearbox one mainly. It's utterly useless. They had to make it really soft because the gearboxes in MK5s are proper agricultural and transmit too much noise and vibration into the cabin. The engine side one isn't too bad.
As Rich said, move away from OEM and you will notice it unfortunately. Just depends on what levels of NVH people are prepard to put up with, and bear in mind rubber stiffens the colder it gets, so a slight dash vibration over summer will get worse in winter.
VW just need to design the mounting system properly to begin with, such as a 4th 'snubber' mount at the front that sits in a cross member to eliminate the irritating back and forth rocking.

Like they had in the mk2 Golf GTI you mean? :happy2:
I'm also thinking of using a complete set of 034Motorsport mounts like yourself, they seem the best solution when it comes to performance vs. NVH.

I asked 034 for customer feedback on cold weather performance and they claimed not to have received any complaints, with an OEM feel once past idle. They quoted a break in period of 300-500 miles.
-
Sounds good. You can be our guinea pig!

Ive had these on for like 2000+ miles now i think.
In all right honesty. Nowadays i feel like they are oem. Nothing inside make me feel like the car is any worse. No extra nvh with these. Even when they were new.
Before i can go recommending id prefer a second opinion. I have no complaints what so over. @ me if you want to know more guys.

Which dogbone have you got to go with those?

Hmmmm, this confirms some 'quality issues' I'd heard about with these mounts.
Maybe the way forward then is to just fill the voids in the OEM mounts with some sikaflex (windscreen glue) or something?
-
In case anyone is interested in these, they're a bit cheaper on O34's black Friday sale - https://store.034motorsport.com/motor-mount-pair-density-line-mkv-mkvi-volkswagen-8j-8p-audi-2-0t-fsi.html#product_tabs_review
Anyone know of a UK reseller?
Importing them = $216 + $70 shipping + VAT & import duty (23% in total) slapped on at customs, = £230 x 1.23 = £282. That's more than OEM ones
The exchange rate absolutely sucks at the moment.

I think Awesome sells 034.

Awesome do have them on their site maybe they will do Black Friday deal may get some myself if they do

After seeing that video I'd be put off for life :surprised:
I'm just filling the void  looks a little messy but now all cleaned up ready for install (https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1374.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fag433%2FSandy1786%2FMobile%2520Uploads%2FIMG_1211.jpg&hash=b812eb02a6af33914e6f835adc640e286f51c235)

Ah cool, Awesome do them, cheers!
Yeah I was thinking about that video. Obviously the dog bone takes care of the front to back swinging motion of the engine, so technically it doesn't really matter if the bar pulls out of the side mount that easily because the side's job is just to hold the engine up. But like you say, it doesn't look good though!
