- The handling feels really good, it gives me loads of confidence in the corners
- I need to stop driving it like my old A4 Tdi, and use the revs, Otherwise, it doesn't feel that fast
- The MFD2 Headunit sounds terrible, this will be my first upgrade
- Don't have the computer set to MPG
- I really like the Mirrors down, Puddle lights, Coming home lights
It feels like a big grown up version of my 6n2 Polo GTi I owned 6-7 years ago
At the weekend I'm putting in fresh Oil, Oil Filter, Pollen Filter, Fuel Filter and replacing the Cam Follower. The weekend after that with the help of a mate who's a tech at an independent VAG specialist we're going to change the Cambelt, Waterpump and put a new thermostat in, and chuck a new PCV valve on.
I need to try and find out what build number I have as I have no plaques
Then after swapping out the headunit I'll put a DV+ on there. I then plan to keep the car standard for a year or so and then think about an exhaust and some lowering springs and a remap.

The full contact details for the man you need at VW UK are buried in the Edition 30 register pages. They have been updated fairly recently, so try p 45 or so...that thread can be a pita to search, but the info is all there.

Was the best thing I've done to mine by far. It transforms the car. Left rtech with an extra 80bhp from stock.

Do you get any issues with torque steer when running around 300bhp? The car needs to be usable everyday on commutes :smiley:

Compared to an Astra VXR my mate had it's leagues above. That was only Stage 1, so around 270/270 and it was terrible for torque steer.
What you might struggle with is traction itself. Once you get up towards 330-340lb/ft with mods like an uprated fuel pump and downpipe, and Stage 2/2+ map, it can be tough to get the power down in the lower gears.
But if you get a good progressive map, such as R-Tech you'll have a better chance of keeping traction. At Stage 1 levels of torque (300-320lb/ft) you shouldn't struggle anyway.

Thanks, I'm not going to be going crazy with mods. So I should be fine. Map, Exhaust and intake is probably all I'll do power wise, nothing for a year or so tho until I'm with a mod friendly insurer. I don't want to get to the point I need fuel pumps, and bigger brakes ect. R-Tech looks good

Enough for 270 BHP with a TBE, IC and HPFP so the stock hardware chokes the engine. :wink:

Weird thing is, the stock ED30 makes the same torque at 2200rpm as the R32 does as a peak (2800ish) but the R32 feels a lot punchier up to that point.
I remember my old R32 being a traffic beast. Could crawl along in 3rd at walking pace all day. No chance in the ED30, it's gearing is too tall for the lack of torque below 2500rpm.

My 'holy grail' engine-wise would be something 3 litres or more - for the natural torque, 6 cylinders - for the sound, and a fast spooling turbo at moderate boost - for the fun power delivery. We chatted about R32 turbos in another thread; if I ever had the chance it'd be firmly on the list. Along with something like a Nismo 400R. Which I can assure you, will never be in budget!!
