Title: SteveP's Carbon Grey Mk6 GTD
Post by: SteveP on April 12, 2012, 11:56:59 am
Time for another new daily

This time back to what I know best a Mk5 and a bit Golf.

After a bit of a head and heart fight between an ED35 and the GTD, the sensible side of me won with the logic of the saving a good chunk on my £1k+ a month fuel from running a TFSI as a daily.

So here's some pics to get the thread started. If the sun ever comes out again I will get some better ones  :ashamed:

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fkk207%2FStevep_010%2Ffile-1865.jpg&hash=82513e804ce6ac886295a35ee416081c3e9d094b)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fkk207%2FStevep_010%2Ffile-680.jpg&hash=fc9d67e35353261efe309ca6a5169a34c917ceaa)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fkk207%2FStevep_010%2Ffile-549.jpg&hash=202e4ed2de3cd613dbf873c19941e64ca3c7f53d)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fkk207%2FStevep_010%2Ffile-351.jpg&hash=94301d89456489871590c34e8da2812faf1f9af5)

Spec wise it pretty well loaded and being a late 2011 car it got the standard heated leather interior and bluetooth upgrades on top of the following extras: -

DSG
RNS-510 Version H Sat Nav
Armrest MDI Kit
Sunroof
Lux pack inc Folding Mirrors
Winter Pack
Front and Rear Parking Sensors
Adaptive Xenon's with LED DRL's
18" Charleston Shadows

And the more choice of modifications has began, first up was the Rear View Camera

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fkk207%2FStevep_010%2Ffile-1119.jpg&hash=aeb418ba392b75615c6744e126d5cd09f671f88d)

And then yesterday a trip to Revo for a bit of a power boost which has made a big difference to otherwise pretty dull driving experience  :driver:

A few more bits to come but as I always say, I am not going too mad with this one

you should of carried on using the 430Hp caged beats as the work car.  Thats hardcore

Looks just like the GTI as well.  Very nice.  GTD is the 170 CR TDI isnt it?  You mapping or just leaving it as is.  Loads of guys doing DPF delete stage 0/1 and 2 maps these days

I'm liking that pal, is that a goodbye to the little polo then? Just one thing though what's happened to the drivers seat bolster or is it just the way the pics been taken?  :happy2:

Too many doors and the wrong type of engine. I much prefered the red GTI track beast, Cant believe it's gone for this.  :rolleye:

Oh no, now I've got a thread to follow which will show me exactly what is possible with my new GTD - this is going to be expensive!!

Great choice of spec - you were lucky to get the Bluetooth upgrade, although it is now standard UK spec apparently the factory routinely "forget" to install it. The dealer told me they end up with about 50/50 with and without.

Funnily enouhg I'm liking that  :happy2:  2 months or so and counting for me.........

The drivers seat rather doesn't look to healthy though.

Did you get a SPS unit with the REVO software. Do they need to take out the ECU to write it?  Can I ask how much the remap is?  I always use Simon @ Emaps, but I'm thinking I'd quite like it switchable is time?

Enjoy :driver:

Looking nice, shame about the seat bolster so early on. Hopefully abit of heat and massage will reduce the creasing.

Tis a peach Mr P and can't wait to get that Carbon flaking in the sun!

I would imagine the pic has been taken just after Steve had finished installing the RVC as the bolster was spot on when we collected it!  :happy2:

1800 miles done and it's a great all rounder, don't think I could live with a standard un-mapped one though

Needs a proper clean so it's off to DMR in a couple of weeks then the Carbon Grey will be sparkling properly.

Stunning car that and a great spec, definately would be next on my list of cars but i just dont drive the miles to warrant a diesel. How does the dsg go with the diesel engine? Would I've to give that a try  :driver:

Time for a bit of an update, despite saying I won't do to much to this one the exhaust needed a tweak

So with a new GTI rear lower spoiler and a new Milltek development in the form of a GTI style system just for the GTD here's the result

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fkk207%2FStevep_010%2Fa55d6fc3.jpg&hash=ffdbca19ae241e4c244c5deef3da609dbc5b8d3e)

Sound wise it really livens the car up with a suitable deep tone to the system

Smart exhaust, the GTI look makes every bit of sense for the GTD.

Are auto headlights standard on the GTD Steve?

Are you getting the mileage per tank from it that you expected and had hoped for? I know you do a shedload of miles most of the time.

Looks a nice place to be for hours on end  :driver:

It's running really well and when I am not in heavy right foot mode it easily achieves >50mpg, long term average over the last 3k miles is 43mpg.

I suppose that may well improve as the engine loosens up.

I'd love to get in of these but I can't afford the difference. :-(

Seems an accomplished all rounder.

They're growing in appeal to me and others coming from and looking at similar cars. There's not many around here either considering they've been out for over a couple of years now - extra attraction it seems  :happy2:
