Title: HELP - Suddenly rough idling l and hard brake pedal - Brake hose Booster?
Post by: Gtcpaul1971 on August 12, 2019, 11:54:15 am
So used the car this morning and all was fine.
Got back in this afternoon and started it up. Smell of petrol and the car really idling rough and over revving. So I took it down the street to find brake pedal was rock hard and it wasnt slowing the car - scary!
Although no lights on the dash, I Put on my cheap code reader and following came up -  08825 and 01393.
Are these PCV and brake switch I am  not sure?
Would the brake switch effect the brakes themselves?
Why would these two things go at exactly the same time?
Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like you have a vacuum leak somewhere. No vacuum would prevent the brake servo from working properly hence the hard brakes and the resulting leak in the air intake system would cause the idling problems, have a good look around the engine for any split hoses etc.

After spending hours digging I think it may be the brake booster hose?
I had a quick look at my car and it is covered in gunk and weeping down the pipe.
Anyone know how to change this ? I have the AXX engine.
Cheers

I have bwa theres a push on connector to vac pump theres a small insert in the pipe theres a metal clip to booster then theres another pipe to crankcase again another insert inside. T he pipe cost £33 from TPS it does not come with the inserts so be careful Hope this helps

Right took brake booster vacuum pipe off and could  not see any cracks or problem?
So am stumped. There was some oil around the pipes and in that area and nowhere else so it must be something around that area.
Could the pipe have failed internally that I can't see?

Ok I am not an expert by any means but have you checked master cylinder or brake switch.......both give funny unexpected  faults when failing as I have found out before
