Title: Bluetooth Kits
Post by: Altern8 on November 22, 2008, 10:32:54 pm
Hey

Just wondering what kits you got installed in your Mk5s I'm looking at getting a parrot kit soon

Cheers

If your budget and car setup allows then the OEM VAG/Skoda kit IMHO is the best option but you will need at least the Highline display.

Otherwise I previously has the Parrot LS-3200 in my last GTI with the Standard RCD300 headunit and that was fine but it did fail after a couple of months and had to be replaced under warranty.

Unfortunately my car doesn't have Highline  So it Parrot an acceptable substitute?

Was also thinking of buying a new TomTom GPS (probably 520/530) to replace the old one which I'll give to a relative. Comes with BT built in so, supposedly, you can use it make/receive calls. Would it be better to go for  a Parrot instead?

The Tom Tom BT isn't up to much as the wife has it on her Go510. The Parrot would be better as it's integrated into the cars speaker sytem  :happy2:

Thanks for the info. Main reason for going for Go530/540 was because of the BT facility. If it's crap, not much point in going for that. Will prolly buy another One either XL or V3/4.

EDIT: Where's a good place to buy one and get it fitted? Or is it easy enough to do myself?

As the speaker is housed in the unit it will never be as good as one with a seperate Mic and speakers. If you want it done in Brum I can get one fitted for you. Let me know which kit your after and I'll get a price off him for you  :happy2:

 Mate, absolutely stuck deciding.

CK3100 LCD looks like the bare minimum I need. The 3200LS and the MKi9200 look nice but I need to be able to hide the unit or put it somewhere very discreet.

The Tom Tom bluetooth is crap

I have a Parrot CK3000 Evolution with multican interface so it is controlled via the phone and volume buttons on the MFSW and I've had no problems with it.  As long as you can set up voice tags on your phone it will work.  The only problem I've had with it is when it was fitted the microphone was put in the interior light cluster and my callers couldn't hear me.  I asked to have it moved outside the light cluster and it is now situated at the top of the A-Pillar and it's as clear as a bell now.

Where did you stick the unit Golfgirl?

I didn't, I had it fitted for me and wasn't around when they did it so I'm not sure.

Lol but where's the display located? Is it visible in the car or hidden away somewhere?

the ck3000 is just a small unit there is no display like the ck3100, all the gubbins fit behind the stereo in the dash. The parrots require a autolead adpator. The ck3100 is good i ahve one fitted to my van and i am going to get one fitted to my mk2 & 5

I've got a parrot with the little display, generally ok. It doesn't really like my SonyEricsson though, keeps disconnecting from it, worked a dream on my nokia though

Lol forgot Golfgirl said CK3000 and not CK3100 but she would still have this somewhere:

What SE phone do you have? I was looking at Parrots over the weekend but have read about how they don't work particularly well with SE phones, though sometimes a firmware update on both the phone and/or parrot helps.

I have the K800i.

It's probably hidden behind the stereo then as I have nothing on display apart from the microphone.

I have a Nokia and it sometimes disconnects and reconnects itself randomly, but it's normally when I don't switch the bluetooth on my phone on until the ignition is on.  When I had it fitted I was told to make sure the bluetooth on my phone is turned on before I get into the car or turn the ignition on.  When I do remember I have no problems.

I currently have a nokia CK-7W, it's faultless for a cheap kit. Run's through the car speakers.

Swapping it on thursday for a Parrot MKi9000. The only reason being, i use sony ericsson phones, currently on a W960i with the latter version bluetooth. This isn't 100% compatible with the CK-7W.

The afore mentioned parrot kit was recomended to me by four different autoelectrians and phone kit installers.

Will keep you posted on my findings on thursday.

Thanks for you post Golfgirl - really helpful.

NotNormal, would be interesting to see/know what your MKi9000 is like. I like the look of it but again, am more worried about security so would like to know where you stick it, how easy it is to use, whether it was worth the cost over say CK3100 and whether your phone works well with it.

No probs....if you're ever passing through Worcs and want to meet up to have a play with it or hear the sound quality, let me know and we'll try and sort something out.

Hey, right, had it fitted today.
Things to note :

The wireless control button, very handy

The microphone is stereo

Anf the bird that talksto you sounds hot lol

First impressions, great bitta kit.
Easy to use
Easy to code new phones in.

Using my Sony Ericsson W960i and a nokia 6*** (not sure which, it's just my work one!)

My SE is a walkman phone and had 8GB memory thus plently of space for tunes.
The Parrot plays these and plays them well along with volume and track control from the parrot button.

The vocal qualitly is great, from both phones, when talking to people.
It has a good clear sound, in both directions even at speed

It also has iPod, USB and 1/8inch audio jack input too.
it is very connectable, good for gadget freaks like me

Worth looking at this bit of kit if your in the market for a hands free car kit.  8)

looking at getting a couple of kits installed and thought about the parrot option as seen some neat installs, anyone tried a blackberry pearl with them, it never talked to my previous nokia kit properly

folks if your phone is disconnecting then go to the options on your SE phone and check your powersave option is on this will allow your phone to only connect to your handsfree unit, it discons as the phone sometimes comes into contact with other bluetooth devices and tries to connect to them, i did this and haven't had any issues since and i only use SE phones.

Tried this with my SE, option on or off it still discon'd but only on incomming. Out going it's fine. I have been told it's a bluetooth and software age related thing.

As an addendum to my earleir post, the MKi9000 kit also has the input option for adding both types of wired display's. (small and large) at a later date should you so wish  :happy2: 8)

Mine is the version without a display.

I like as little non-genuine clutter in my cabin's as i can TBH

I've placed the button on the dash insert infront of the indicator/cruise controll stalk.
I'll post a pic over the weekend if your struggeling to know where i mean with the discription

Sorry misread it and thought I'd seen MKi9100. I'm thinking of the 9100 or 9200 version with the display but I also like the CK3100 (with display). Where were the mics placed?

Struggling to remember which side the indicator stalk's on, and I've been away from the car for 20 hours!

Stealth, why arent you considering vRStu's OEM Bluetooth skoda kit designed to work in conjuntion with the mk5???, much better then any aftermarket unit, risking not only theft having one of these things mounted, you wouldnt know ones fitted if you went with Stu's kit. Cant recommend it enough.Works with mfsw and highline aswell as SatNav/radio.Unless you have nether MFSW or midline, then go parrot or along those lines.

I havent read the rest of the thread, and sorry if its already been covered.  :happy2:

Edit, just read and you havent got highline

...unless you have nether MFSW or midline...

Exactamundo!

Midline and no MFSW otherwise I'd have gotten the VW OEM kit in a flash

In fact, all I got with the ED30 was armrest and iPod connection. At the time, that was the highest specced 57-plate low mileage ED30 on the VW database! Or I could have ordered a brand new GTI with all the gizmos and wait donkey years for it to arrive.

I'm glad I didn't wait.

As for the parrot kit, it may have to wait until after april as I've already planned to get my hands on vagcom first.

I was tempted with vrStu's kit but didn't like the idea of it using a different button to the phone button on the steering wheel!

My Parrot is hidden.  The only part you can see is the microphone.  Even that was hidden at first but my callers couldn't hear me so I had to move it to the A-Pillar.

I'd like something similar but want it discrete so no one knows it's there.
