Title: Question re Xenons and Headlight Washers
Post by: ljc19630 on February 21, 2021, 11:44:57 am
Chaps,
I'm aware that Xenon's were an option on Standard GTi & Ed30. However, if the Xenon option was chosen, did this also include the addition of the pop out headlight washers, or did these also come as a separate option? I ask, as have seen a few Ed30s that have Xenons but not headlight washers, hence me wondering of these have been retrofitted?

Cheers
Louie

When the cars were new...you could spec xenons and they all have headlight washer jets. Cars that didn't have xenons and had halogen... people commonly retro fit the xenon clusters with adaptor kits to work. The reason you see cars with xenons and no headlight washer jets is because they are major work to retro fit.

Saying that I have seen halogen cars with headlight washer jets.

Cheers Buddy,
That was exactly my thoughts too! Reason i ask is, as you state, i have too seen Halogens with headlight washers, and in fact a friend bought a GTi recently with terribly faded Halogens, which being a pro detailer i offered to restore for him. It was only when i saw the car in the flesh that i noticed it had the split piece below the headlights, hence was originally fitted with xenons, but they had been removed and had the crappy Halogens fitted!!!!

Cheers for the confirmation
Louie

i would love to buy a HID kit for my Eddy, but if you have HID with no washers, i believe it would fail the MOT..

just a fly in the ointment but are you sure you friend's car actually came with xenon headlights , check the accessory sticker codes at the front of the service book.
iirc one could have ordered the optional winter pack that included headlight washers with the normal headlights.

Sorry to sound like a complete idiot

does that link mean that if my headlights are fitted with halogen bulbs, but they have the projector lenses,  i still cant fit the HID kit because it doesnt have washers?

LOL  - So all the cars on here that are de-catted and tuned will also fail their MOT?? I wonder how they all manager to pass!!!!!!

HID - High Intensity Gas Discharge - I believe that Xenon's are different??

Xenons as mentioned here are a HID setup in projector housings. HID bulbs in standard reflector setups are too bright, give no beam pattern and throw light all over the place, hence the MOT failures. I used these for about a month before getting annoyed that I was essentially blinding everyone and took them out and just sorted better bulbs and new light units.

I’ve a custom set up as mine were retrofitted. Had RS6 projectors fitted and these are super bright. Been fully adjusted and no issues with them “blinding” other drivers. Unless of course they are on High Beam

Speak to a guy called Trups at a company called EM Tuning. He did mine and I’m sure will be able to recommend a suitable kit or set up etc. Mention me and he’ll look after you.
