Already looking forward to another meet.
Glad I got my food
-
Maybe the end of Jan, something like the last Saturday of the month again??
-
its a must for me next time. i was workin on the morning of the meet. those pics were very good. so when is the next meet hopefully soon :rolleye:
-
End of Jan sounds perfect!! And a Saturday is the only weekend day I can make also!
Similar kind of location also....I think the general consensus was that it was not too far for everyone? (i hope!)
-
Yes count me in for an appearance too, maybe 30 miles nearer south!!!

Agreed, if we can getting a few junctions further south on the M6 that would be about right for most people :happy2:
-
^^^^
Yep, but only further south if....
A) - There is good food (for me and Hurdy who like our food!!) :drinking:
B) - A good location for accommodating about 20 cars! :grouphug:
:driver:

Sounds good to me!!
x2 with Robin's comment!

I think you need to get quite a few more junctions down the M6 - Perhaps the A34 :P

....

^ This just about sums up a meet!

....Pah! If I can do it, so can you!
Besides which, the A34 stretches up past Wolverhampton/Stafford etc. :P

its a date cheers RED.

not sure if they would agree or even if they are open in jan but what about drayton manor park ? loads of space with great back drop ??? just an idea :indifferent:
-
End of jan - depends on date and own plans (gotta be back in Brum on 20th). If the meet's on 24th, I'd more likely be able to make it if it's closer to Brum and if it's on 31st, it'd be easier if it was further south, say round Oxford. Would be easier for RR, Phil and I to drive up (mini-convoy FTW!).
Am excited about next meet. But seeing everybody else's cars makes me wanna mod mine so it's different.
Hmmm....where's the tippex and masking tape?
-
Im keen for another meet.
Agree though its got to have a big car park.
The place we went on Saturday is nice and open and still it took
some effort to arrange the cars etc.
-
its a date cheers RED.
....Just to let you know, dahling, that I'll be bringing at least 20 other men with me to our date!!
:happy2:

"We got ourselves a convoy" [said in a Kris Kristofferson voice] - 20 no problem 8)
-
what about booking a space/stand at one of next summers shows, inters/tatton/edition,
and next meet maybe services on M6 toll, as its for north and south, then a drive/cruise to drayton, via a grub stop, just thoughts. :driver:
-
Good plan (meet, convoy and grub)
-
it'd be easier if it was further south, say round Oxford.
oxford would be ideal chaps as will bring along both, there are a few car parks which will not attract donut eaters, gaydon is not a bad meet up point either
-
I will be at the next meet guys for sure. Just give me a place and time :happy2: :jumpmove:

Would anywhere around the M1 be easier for the North / South journey?
-
How about a meet in Stratford-upon-Avon, my misses works at the Holiday Inn and they have a massive car park and I could probably get a discount on food?!?!?!
-

Even I'd wanna go further south.
I still reckon round oxford would be easier. Or somewhere bout that level.
-
Is this a northerner only site??? would love to be at next meet but
im from cambs, looks like I have a bit of a drive ahead of me!
-
What about meeting at the autosport show at the nec make a day of it
-
Guys you just cant please everyone its got to be around Birmingham really or Kegworth were the M1, M6 and A14 meet thats about equal distance for lets say Joe and RR both have a fair trip there. :grouphug:
-
I think it should change from meet to meet. Sometimes north, sometimes midlands, and sometimes south. Gives a chance for other people to make it to the meet.
I drive up to Brum from Bournemouth to meet the family (like I did at the last meet) and unless you do silly speeds, it's quite easy to get bored and tired.
I reckon in the summer, you guys should come down south to sunny Bournemouth, or even Sandbanks!

Bit dodgy round there Rob :scared:
-
Arr no problem only been once few years back.
Think we need to find a big open airfield hehe
How about we try and hire - http://www.curborough.co.uk/
Im not sure if they still do it but a few years back we had an Integra meet there, it was around £15 each (about 15 Cars)
they just give you the keys to the gate and you ahve the track for the day, it might be different now.
Great little sprint track for 1 car at a time :happy2:
-
Have a chat with them Rob. I tried this route a few months back with the Prodrive circuit just outside Warwick. Prices started at £325 per car :surprised:
-
just found this -
Thank you for your enquiry.
Curborough is available for private hire in the week for ten cars a day to use the full course, and for car clubs on weekday or Saturday afternoons to use the "top loop" for up to 35 cars for non-competitive laps.
Cost for the above is for the first, £450and the second £650.
If you just want a social meeting, there are events every weekend which you can visit as a group - see the website for the calendar.
If you want further information please contact me again

Curborough Course Secretary

Looks good, and at under £20 per car if we get 35 it's cheap :happy2:
-

I live in carlisle so it will be a hike. but will make it :happy2: brummie land would be good or around that area
-
Its certainly something to think about, theres no pressure as we can do everything at our own pace,
Its only a small sprint track but great for one car at a time, makes a change from just standing looking at the cars.
There was no marshalls etc last time i went hey just give you the keys to the gate and a small tea room and you can help yourself to the track.
One lap done in 32 seconds haha -
Old school Peugeot meet there -

its not fair saying "further south" when the conversation has just been between southerns!! i think the last meet area is about right, i like robs idea aswell with the sprint track,
end of january sounds good, shall we say SATURDAY 26TH JANUARY?? now if we have a date set we can concentrate on a good venue :happy2:

26th's a Monday!! :signLOL: 24th or 31st. Sprint track sounds like a great idea, give me a good chance to test my new TPMS system!!
-
Im defo up for the sprint track....something different and gives us all chance to open our cars up legally :happy2: Any saturday in January is fine for me
-
SATURDAY 31ST
:rolleye: :rolleye:
-
^^^ Agreed Saturday 31st and some where around the midlands.
Lets get a venue agree and then we can start of list of attendees :happy2:
I think somewhere like the last meet location would be best for this time of year and then put plans into place for a bigger event at a track/circuit for when the weather might be better.

Yep I agree the sprint track would be great and I will be looking into this for the early summer months :happy2:

So us southerns have to travel 170 miles whilst you nothern lads go 80 odd miles, hardly fair is it!!!!, is the weather too warm if you head south for you northerns or something!!! :surprised: Northampton area would be a good call. Thats in the middle of the uk!!
Most people are from the Manchester area and stafford isnt exactly far south from there, but it could be harder for a couple that come down from further afield. For the likes of myself, stealthwolf, redrobin have miles to go, as there isnt an easy route to get there. Birmingham south would be 130 miles and about the limit. If you drove south for 130 miles from krispy Cremes , where would that get you??? London??
Manchester to Northampton 128 miles
Southampton to Northampton 135 miles
(as an example, to show roughly how much further us southern boys have to travel.)

You have also got to take into account the amount of peeps from each area, at the moment there is Stealth, Red and yourself from the med from the north there is 5 times that amount so its all relative. it is always going to be painful for a few people but as i posted earlier, may be the bottom of the M6 were it meets the M1 would be more central. :grouphug:
-
Agreed, rugby, coventry or south Brum area's are more middle, 130 miles is more do'able
-
Like I said above, the location should change regularly so it's spread out more. Unfair for those of us down south to have to drive up each and everytime.
This way everyone has to drive some considerable distance to make the meet.
We need to put our locations on one of those map thingies so we can figure out where everyone is based and use that to help decide future venues.
-
just a thought, and am not driving in any wedges, or splitting the site in two,or more
this is a site for all, and wouldnt it be best for us to draw a cross on the map of britain, north, south, east, west. then having a representative (if thats spelt right) for each corner/region, and do are/your own thing monthly/yearly when ever,
then when show season starts get together as a club/forum/group/mob,
just tell me to EFF OFF if am talking 80ll0CK5
but that could be an answer, we could travel to other meets/gatherings if you/we wanted to catch up with others

I thought about suggesting something similar but then figured it'd lead to problems and people forming their own 'cliques', which is a bad thing.
My suggestion was to first see where everyone comes from then have say "north" "midlands" and "south" groups and the meet would change between each of the three regions and that group would be responsible for organising location, food and timing. This way, everyone would have to travel roughly the same amount in the rotation.

Hopefully, well im sure that will happen eventually when we have more members. The idea at the moment is to get this place off to a good start and try and get as many members as possible together as one big Mk 5 community. :drinking:

Whilst this is a good idea, I dont think it will work in the real world.... I think what will happen is that people will only go to meets that they can 'be bothered' to go to. With all due respect, I can't see Joe coming to a meet in e.g. Southampton, and likewise, I can't see yourself or I going to a meet in Newcastle / Manchester!! So, it may result in arguments along the lines of "well I bothered to make the journey up to Manchester, so why can't you make the effort to come to Southhampton......................
In reply to other posts...
I think regional meets will come about as the forum grows definitely! And Billyboy's idea of regional reps is a great idea, and Im sure it will happen! Its certainly a feature of a lot of other online motoring forums, and its a system that works well.
I think its all about picking a central (ish) location that everyone is willing to travel to, that will get a good turnout of 20+ cars, so that we as a community grow together kinda thing! Not in dispersed units as it were...
-
i for one think travelling to one central location, be it 200 miles away once every 2 months or so on a sunday or saturday isnt too much to ask is it?
I think whilst we still have small numbers on the forum, which i think is great to be honest, we shouldnt bother with the regional thing, yet.
I dont mind travelling to the next one! it would be great to have a large number of northern guys convoying down. with some decent weather we'l get a load good rolling shots!

I dont mind a drive at all, but the last meet did have great turout so cant have been a bad location
Agreed the sprint traxk will be better when we know it will be better weather, i think its something we have to start
planning soon.
-
....
If something is worth going to it doesn't matter how far. I'll happily drive 170 miles to go to VWR, or 150 each way for lunch with a friend. We're all different and some peeps can't be bothered to drive 30 miles!
Others have commitments (family etc) which limits their range.
Oxford sounds good, lower down the M6 sounds good, that sprint track sounds good....
-
I don't mind travelling further for a good venue......
as long as it also has decent FOOOOD
-
i live 60 miles north of manchester! but can travel a lil more south than the last meet aslong as its a good convoy :happy2:
are we saying Saturday 31 January then for sure as il put it in my book!
-
Yep Saturday 31st it is.
The requirements: -
1 - A bit further south this time but a similar type of venue to Stafford.
2 - A pub that serves good food for Hurdy
-
is it worth starting a new thred now or shall we wait till we have a venue?
-
Wait for the venue me thinks :happy2:
-
What about SUNDAY 1 FEBUARY
Santa Pod raceways RWYB!?
http://www.santapod.co.uk/calendar.php
would be alot of fun with 20 or so mk5ers!!

Southern Boys Convoy, Phyllis?
-
Red robin, where are you in the south n wot roads you taking?? :P
-
^^^^
I would hook up with Phil Mc just north of Southampton on M3 > A34 > North.
-
I presume you are then going to come across the A43 Robin, if so then I will be able to catch up with you and Phil on there :happy2:
-
^^^^
Yep, A43 sounds very familiar - Past APS and bacon sanny break at yours
-
i might well see a few of you on the way down :)
-
I wanna make it but might be a bit difficult (exams).
I would hook up with Phil Mc just north of Southampton on M3 > A34 > North.
I googlemapped it and it said I had to go via M25!!!
Might try and join you guys on the convoy.
-
^^^^
Avoid the M25!! Go Bournemouth > Southampton > RV > A34 etc.
-
That's pretty much the route I take when I go up to Brum.
What's RV?
-
....
RV = Rendez-Vous (military term for a meeting place)
-
I know "rendezvous", didn't know the abbr. for it!
Where we meeting in soton?
