Title: 10K Service. DIY?
Post by: QD MBE on November 05, 2008, 10:24:29 pm
I am taking my car off the long-service regime, and going to the 12month - 10000mile regime.  With being away this year I have only done 7k.

I also dont like the idea of the oil being around for 2 years or 20000miles.

Anyone know how much the 10K service is?  The stealers want £114 which I dont think is too bad.  Getting it done at the same time as some warranty work.

Thats not a bad price, you may get it cheaper if you supply your own oil. if you dont request to use your own make sure you have them still put the long life stuff in.  even though your going on annual.  :happy2:

Mine would have been just over £100 for the first 10K service according to my dealers, so like the cat says that doesn't sound too bad.

im gonna have a go sometime in December, change the sparks, oil, oil filter, air filter and pollen filter .

Its not that i don't mind paying its just im a bit sceptical whether some dealers actually do the work :( had a  bad experince on my E36 M3.

thats why i try to use specialists rather than dealers.

I'm not sure how VW would view this should any warranty work be required ?

Good point Jonny, the way I understand it is unless the services are carried out to the manufactures schedule using genuine parts by either a VW Dealer or Independent (VAT Registered?) Garage then your warranty would be voided??

not true as as long as genuine parts are fitted it does not effect you warranty its called block exemption so you can do the service at home if you wanted

that said some people will like to see a dealer stamp in the book when you come to sell the car on

Good point Shaun  :happy2: I come across the block exemption ruling at work all the time, but in practice it's not alway's convienient, point in case: A Seat dealer serviced a year old Ford for me, upon return told me it had to be re-booked into a Ford dealer for 'warranty work'!

It would certainly make people wary if a service book had all sorts of different dealer/manufacturer stamps in the service book.

Know exactly what you are saying, but the as an enthusiast the whole point of that stamp is too make sure the work was done properly and to the highest standard . Thus i keep receipts/records showing what was done, when and for what reason.

Its also the reason i prefer to use specialists / enthusiasts to do work rather than lazy unintrested dealers. money is not the issue !

BMw have some of the most shocking dealerships , out of 8 dealers i have tried for warrenty/service work i only trust two !!!

Murketts of huntingdon and Rydale BMW Birmingham now Sytner of brum !
