Title: Ed30 #1521
Post by: MateyGuv on July 15, 2013, 11:17:20 pm
Hello all.
Iv been a member since getting my Ed30 in March but have not got round to saying hi and introducing myself.  Iv loved my dubs and have had a few tasty ones.  Iv been lucky enough to own 3 G40's, a Lupo GTi and a Polo GTi 1.8Turbo.  My Polo (2006) was written off by a drunk driver and I kinda lost the love for messing around with cars so went into a company car and had been in them till March this year.  The company I was working for was BMW so they weren't the normal rep mobiles   This Ed30 is my first Golf but I knew I'd love it.  Took me a while to find but now Iv got some initial issues sorted worth the wait.  Some of you may recognise the car as it was advertised for sale in this forum.  Anyhow here it is -

It was a fairly standard car when I got it.  The previous owner has installed complete LED interior lights with sidelights and puddle lights and an RNS510.  On the day I picked it up he said "every now and again the alarm goes off for no reason but don't worry about it"  I thought - well I'm sure you can guess - but the car is in such lovely condition I took the risk.......... lots of sleepless nights, countless hours searching the internet and ultimately a chance comment to Eddie-NL (big thank you Eddie!!) got it sorted.  I'm now really loving it and have done a few things to freshen it up a bit.

Its been to Awesome GTi to have a full service and general check over.

First up I fitted Chrome switches

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FEd30%2FDriverDoor.jpg&hash=e2cbaa1e8d201f6756ae9deb0beb1194a609bdd2)

Then some chrome bits for the engine - The oil cap isn't quite right but working on it

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FEd30%2FShineyBits.jpg&hash=fd1350ec5335e8abf195fb94d543a4d304de6eda)

Genuine open Fog grills followed

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FEd30%2FOpenFogs.jpg&hash=623b45ab3841dab0b86b19b6ddf836b8b6b065f4)

Boot mat and net next

MK6 red stitched steering wheel after that

I have plans to get a bit more power but want to get the car set up to my liking so getting bits together - Alloy goodness.....

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FEd30%2FAlloyBits.jpg&hash=5c1d0b0507ada86dbeeee072c07bfe9135b58232)

TT rack so alloy hubs will be an easier fit (I think)

Lots planned but as with everything its all when funds allow.  Hope you like the car and I'll keep my build updated when I do more bits.  Trying to source Ed30 Mats at the moment.

Cheers     :drinking:

Looks nice, often wish i had waited for a 3dr steel grey, but after nearly 8 months i got fed up of looking and choose condition over spec.

This may help, he has a set of mats available

Lovely looking ED30, but would say that as I'm biased! Looks in great condition
Some nice subtle mods there - the hubs & wishbones should make a great difference. Have the parts lined up for mine too, so will be interested to hear what you think of them.

Thank you  :happy2:
I'm not sure iv got all the right bits yet and won't do it for a while. I plan to do the whole front end in one hit - bushes, diff, arb, brakes and suspension. You'll probably get yours done before mine Dave!

Hi Stu!!

Yeah the alarm was a proper pain in the bum!!!!!!!!!!!! After spending a small fortune it turned out to be the inner ignition micro switch - replaced that and all good so far  :pomppomp:

Ok loads of pics to follow so gonna do it step by step

I'v always had privacy glass in my cars and wanted the same in this car.  I personally don't like window film applied because in my experience it never dries right.  I priced up replacing the glass and although possible seemed a huge amount to spend on the glass - and I didn't like the idea of removing the spoiler to get the rear screen out.  I settled on some window blinds from a company called Sonniboy.  I went for these because these were the only ones I could find that had a one piece rear section.  The other kits I found all used a two piece rear screen blind which means that there is a blatant join line visible in the rear screen.  My car is a three door and it really was as easy as this sounds to install.  Pop the blinds in and walk away!!! Looks like privacy glass until you get really close to it and you can see the blind material.  Im really happy with the end result and like the idea that I can take them out in the winter months when its dark early so I can still see whos behind me.

The kit....

Thought I better fit better jack points as future plans means the car will be on the ramps a fair bit so S3 items were fitted.  I sprayed them Yellow to be identified easily

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FEd30_New_Stuff%2FF8092B73-3993-49B6-8031-7E05E3C1EE0A-1276-0000012D7F7B5D64.jpg&hash=6a562bd9aa6d5c59fcbe946e4a8c506d068f497b)

Sprayed the lower bumper with Plastidip - real easy stuff to use and, imho, looks the business.

Masked roughly around area.

Giving the Ed a spirited drive  :driver: and major misfire happened - engine light came on  :scared: Plugged in and misfire on 3 & 4.  I know the coil packs are a bit poo so hoped if they were replaced everything would be back to normal.  Got Red Top coil packs (R8 apparently) and a set of new plugs.  Installed and the car felt like it had a mini remap!!  I can only think the coil packs were on the way out since I picked the car up cause it absolutely fly's now.

Any part numbers/cost?

Got boot mat and net from TPS - say your in the trade and they usually will give you 10% off. Iv never had to prove it so worth a go.

Here is where I got the part numbers and fitting guide for the jacking points - about a 20 min job. Rears were really easy fronts were tough to take originals out but S3 items went back in a treat

Done some more simple mods.....

Fitted Rev G DV as my Rev D was not holding its boost

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FEd30_New_Stuff%2FRevG.jpg&hash=53a5d1d44e0fe851be4e464139128e4416e5e63f)

Fitted the parts for boot pop and had it coded to open on the remote

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FEd30_New_Stuff%2FBootpop.jpg&hash=1b60594d9b5ef7ec88d6c3b08215dac7f59f5e2e)

Got fed up with the rain comming into the car on the way to work (I like to have the window open a little) so fitted wind deflectors.  Real easy to fit but removing the stickers that were on them was an absolute nightmare.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FEd30_New_Stuff%2FWind.jpg&hash=69def3d0e8c56169362a1f95d56e4bfe3f5b753b)

Fitted - Not sure I like the look of them fitted, but getting used to the new look. This kit didnt need any clips so I can always take them off without causing damage to the window rubber.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FEd30_New_Stuff%2FWindfitted.jpg&hash=e7c8663ef1dfe6f5a52b7cf263eed790e3a8faf7)

Next up projector fog lights and proper ed30 mats. After that I'm gonna get the front end done but that'll be expensive! Got the wheel from Eddie-NL. I was lucky he was able to get the red stitched one - I wouldn't have gone for one if it didn't have the red though

Nothing too exciting but done a few more bits. Nearlly how I want it before starting on more serious mods.
After reading and seeing the Roh Echt intake valve cleaning DIY guide (
)
figured its gotta be worth a go so used this to do it...

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FEd30_Oct_2013%2FSeafoam.jpg&hash=b0969cdd41d269db32adda87e535ce4453ccd954)

The car seems to start up a little better, but that may have something to do with the other bits I have done.  The amount of smoke that was produced was impressive to say the least - I can only liken it to a military smoke granade in its density.  Seems to be a little happier on tick over too, but it may just be me!!

My car has been running its original PCV since I got it so wanted to update that to the most recent one. Interesting the change in design over the years...

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FEd30_Oct_2013%2FPCVoldandnew.jpg&hash=6dbf96e9eb103ca60e00721f9fb3e1467b362b72)

Fitted...

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FEd30_Oct_2013%2FPCVfitted.jpg&hash=9ee78b86b99726a80d30ebe96c67d12ba873c286)

After a bit of a nightmare getting one... I had bits missing from my order - like the piston and the piston spring - you know nothing major or anything!!!! Finally got the GFB DV+. Iv fitted it on a Rev D as I figure, maybe, the solenoid may be stronger than the rev G as the rev D has to operate a piston. Probably exactly the same, they do look identical, but thought I'd give it a go. If anyone knows please do say  :happy2:

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FEd30_Oct_2013%2FGFB.jpg&hash=60f9058f86cc1bd77f31fbfaf14f6a1a1dc04ac9)

Fitted...

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FEd30_Oct_2013%2FGFBfitted.jpg&hash=f08f89dcb6e0a8548f63aa9c453444f9a0f91090)

So far really impressed with the way it responds to my right foot and certainly feels more sure of its self holding the boost.

Thats it for now but more bits coming  :pomppomp:

Do you have a part number for the aerial at all?

The aerial base is 6R0 035 501 A and the whip for that base is 6R0 035 849 A (cheers Dom  :happy2:) My original whip thread is too small for this base so make sure you get the whip too

Time for an update..

My drivers door was not opening on the remote so had to replace the door lock, bit of a pain in the bum but so much better to have it working. Took the opportunity to apply some sound deadening to the outerskin too.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FEd30_Dec_2013%2FDoorlockfit.jpg&hash=0621efd32eadf2de3fc7f7f902692e3eb206c681)

Got some bits from TPS and made this loom up

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FEd30_Dec_2013%2FDoorlightloom.jpg&hash=20afddef76cc3497231fe4bfa80f13fa60aab8a2)

Fitted into the door card

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FEd30_Dec_2013%2FDoorlightloomincard.jpg&hash=0e5ab29e84f35e2f5dfe20e34cd6dd9850db8b51)

Coded and working - was not so impressed with the light output so ordered some LED versions from Boldsport

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FEd30_Dec_2013%2FDoorlightfitted.jpg&hash=d505ef6013b049d6c8bc3dd97288000054564a5a)

Boldsport goodies arrived - got the door card LED's and the rear/brake light replacement because I was working on something and needed to replace the normal bulbs with LED's to match what I was doing.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FEd30_Dec_2013%2FBoldsportbulbs.jpg&hash=fa0124dfe3ffa34a2a322d3905ce56ce35ecdb7d)

Door card with standard bulb - the pic makes the light output seem really bad - it aint great but not as bad as this pic makes out

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FEd30_Dec_2013%2FDoorlightbefore.jpg&hash=a6c98189f41a0fa83b7980764c9373f0ff113750)

LED's fitted to door card lights - amazing difference.

Genuine Edition 30 mats turned up on eBay so grabbed them. Used a whole can of carpet shampoo and a hot pressure wash and they have come up amazingly well!!

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FEd30_Dec_2013%2FED30mats.jpg&hash=2b646cad641685742c37b02ffa273cef4f84d90d)

I'm confused now - don't take much. They are the only option for rear led bulbs on bold sport for mk5 golf two sets are needed so four bulbs in total. Is that what your asking or do I need to stop drinking now  :signLOL:

That was emotional wasn't it! I figured at first you were talking about the rear sidelights as that's what the picture I posted was of, then assumed that you were talking about the light on the wall you could see in that picture but turns out you were talking about the bulbs for the front sidelights that's not in the picture. Sorry mate I was a bit drunk last night and my deduction skills were lacking  :signLOL:
I got lucky and got them from eBay - they are un branded china jobbies.

How did you get round the connector difference - make your own loom up, or cut & solder? Want to find plug & play loom, but can't. Don't want to buy from ECS out of principle.

Title: Re: Ed30 #1521

The light output ain't as warm as a filament bulb so appears a bit brighter. When braking they are as intense as the high level light is. You need to order two sets (4 bulbs in total) for the complete rear lights. Don't only order one set like I did then have to wait for another set!!

All info on this forum somewhere and a Haynes guide on standby! If it's a big job I tend to put screws etc back where I took them out of as I go so I don't forget where any go when reassembling

I'm sure it's all to do with the module, rns dab does  not have BT built in. Tbh when I was trying to research the kit I wanted I couldn't find a direct answer so trusted what Eddie-NL told me (never let me down yet!) I told him what id like and he sorted a kit out for me. I was proper surprised that the info came through my red mfd as from what i had read it would only display on white mfd. The kit I have is mid line so doesn't do text messaging but not fussed about that. My RNS was manufactured Feb 2014 so possibly that's why the streaming is stereo, can control on rns & multifunction wheel and displays on mfd? Also not had to code it - literally wired it in and all worked!

Been a while since I'v updated, been busy getting parts together for next stage so had nothing to install.  Got a deal for some S2T paddles from forum member biffobear (thanks for quick delivery mate  :happy2:) and installed them today. I hate airbag stuff so was very glad when I finally managed to get the airbag out. Then it was an easy swap over.

Phew - I still have my face and airbag in tact!
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FEd30_July_2014%2FAirbagOut.jpg&hash=034eef808db0288167a7ccdfb4c520fbbb622a99)

All done and back together
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FEd30_July_2014%2FWheelFitted.jpg&hash=0dce42fe0a0eaf2bcd628096e1ac90ff0087f468)

Definitely worth doing in my mind as the normal switches are a bit too small for me to confidently grab when needed.

My car is at the stage of where I want it to be in terms of technology and styling so now begins the slippery slope of handling, stopping and of course power. Want the power delivery sorted first then will do suspension, braking and finally power.  Got these bits already but need a few more small items before I can get it all fitted.

Thank you for the kind words people

Yup - that's the plan, gonna go AWD and big power.  When I'v previously messed around with cars I'v always done power first then worried about traction, stopping and getting round corners so this time I'm doing it in reverse!  Would like to not have to worry so much about putting the ED30 into a ditch when I get the power  :signLOL:

More bits done.....

My oil dip stick has never been right so ordered a new one and fitted today - old one is orange and new one is yellow.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FEd30_July_2014%2FDipSticks.jpg&hash=57e394f6d1a3d4006f6379772296ed47bfe8ef07)

I'v had a heat shield for ages now but when I first tried to fit it I managed to get a bolt from the engine cover stuck so it was just spinning when trying to undo it.  Went on a mission today and managed to remove the bolt so could install the heat shield.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FEd30_July_2014%2FHeatSheild.jpg&hash=10f2a4c8dfde3f49bea04c02caa83e0831527ef4)

While the intake was off I took opportunity to put some edging round the lower cut out of the intake sheild as it was scuffing the filter a little

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FEd30_July_2014%2FFiltershieldthingy.jpg&hash=7532a5721fbd5be7c3ad0c2a3925bbe9a8b7a5de)

I had some (not enough!!) titanium heat wrap left over from a previous project so fitted that when the intake was off.  Looks kinda sh*t but should help lower temps a little........ maybe

Been trying to get this right for ages, tried block sanding but couldn't get it quite right so ended up with some good quality masking tape and I'm happy with the results

Fitted to the rest of the cover - the main part looks a bit white in the photo (iPhone) but its is the original silver colour.  Oil cap still isn't quite straight but I'll sort that sometime

Thank you guys  :drinking: That engine cover took ages to get right and many failed attempts.  I'm happy with it now though

So I got a result and was really the right place at the right time - I managed to get myself a unicorn part for a silly price. Wanted a set of these for a while but when ever they came up for sale they were silly money so resisted getting them.  These came from a 140k miler R32 and obviously have the normal wear and tear but for the money I paid I am not complaining at all

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FAug_2014%2FRecaro-01.jpg&hash=04e6ac37b55ae0beb5b03ca53dff1b30ba3b4855)

Couldn't resist cleaning them up with upholstery cleaner and fitting the driver side to see what they were like.  Really changes the feel of the car and certainly holds you in better through the corner - I'm a happy chap
I do plan to have them re trimmed to match my cars interior, but for the time being I will keep them like this.

Just a little update on the seats.  With the help of many people - cheers guys  :drinking: - I have got the seat loom and heater elements sorted.  Got the chance to connect it all up and check it works - good news, it does
Just waiting for the plaid material from Germany now then the seats will be re covered to fit in with my Ed30 interior.  While the seats are getting done I think I'm going to get red stitching done on the door cards.  I used to have a Polo GTi 1.8T with leather and it had red stitching on the door cards and looked smart.  Not sure if it may be a bit overkill though

Amazing work! I'd never even thought these seats aren't heated, just assumed they were! Did you have much hassle getting the plaid trim, as I had read it is stupidly rare?!
Look forward to seeing the finished interior! Regards the door cards, I'd say the red stitching would look great - real OEM+
Title: Re: Ed30 #1521

The leather wingbacks are heated but the cloth ones may not be.  I got a result on these seats (trader thought they were after market and wanted original seats to get the best return on his investment ) The cloth ones are very rare to find, but my ones are from a 140k miler and the cloth has perished so not worth saving.
Did I have much hassle getting the plaid.......... over a year of searching and exhausted all avenues to locate some.  I'd given up finding any so was about to buy a complete GTi cloth interior for the plaid bits.  Passing comment to a trimmer I know and the next day he called me and had located some through his contacts.  I believe what I'v found is the last "new" unused 5 meters left.  The guy who had it knew exactly what it is and how rare it is so demanded silly money. Managed to get a bit off but he was only willing to sell all 5 meters.

Hopefully something like that  If that's the car I think it is it only has the plaid about 2/3 of the way of the base, I'm going to get the whole base done in it as the ED standard seats. Iv also got a stamp to emboss the GTI instead of stitching it. I'm going for as close as I can to if the recaro's were an option in the ED30's. I'm that anal I'm even going to have the plaid the right way up lol

Have you got a picture of what you hope the end product looks like then? I only ask because I asked about this a while back and got mixed opinions on whether or not they where an option... http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,80805.15.html

Either way I agree embossing the logo would look better than stitching :happy2:
Title: Re: Ed30 #1521
Post by: MateyGuv on September 22, 2014, 10:37:08 pm
The MK5 Golf was only available with 4 wing back recaro's. I'm very sure of this because I was selling them as new cars at the time. R32 cloth (like mine), GTI cloth - tartan rear panel and 2/3 base (not including bolsters obviously) R32 leather and GTI leather. The ED30 was only available with one interior.
The normal GTI cloth has the tartan 2/3 cover to the base of the seat where the ED30 has full base tartan.
Hopefully my seats will basically be the same as the picture in the link but slightly different. The tartan has been installed upside down in the link (I'm sad enough to notice thing like that!!) I'll have the letters embossed and full tartan base section. A Normal GTI cloth interior tartan isn't wide enough to allow the full length base on the recaro's- that's why I was keen to locate some material for it. I'm still waiting for the material but soon with any luck  When it's done I'll update my build thread

Thanks for clearing that up, I found another good example last night...

However being picky... the logo's wrong, tartan doesn't go all the way to the base and no red stitching but not a bad attempt by any means!

I look forward to see your finished article!

Well...... I was let down big time from my supplier for the plaid and had to ask very nicely for my money back, which I got in the end

Spent over a week searching the internet for some more and after all sorts of different spellings in the searches I found some in Mexico.  Paid the guy what we agreed and waited with fingers crossed.

A package arrived today and it was what he advertised - I was half expecting a roll of hello kitty print fabric but this is what I got

I'm no expert with interior fabrics but it appears to be real deal ex factory stock and matches perfectly with my ED30 interior and has foam backing with factory numbers printed on the back.  Whatever it is, its an exact match -  :pomppomp:

Your plans sound spot on, to be honest. I don't think most people would know that you have changed the stitching in the armrest/door panels from grey to red, if you didn't tell them.

Should add a nice bit of colour to the door cards - red stitching on the ED30 would have been a great way to set the car apart to the door trim in GTI leather/R32 interiors. Comes down to cost at the factory, I guess...

So dropped everything off to the guy today and now I have a dilemma! Was planning to use OEM GTi leather grain on my wingbacks with Ed30 theme but having seen a set of seats he has done in Nappa leather has got me thinking. I like subtle mods and my plan was OEM as much as possible. I'm getting the seats, door cards and armrest done with new leather so do I keep OEM wide grain or go for full Nappa while I can. Same colour as standard but just better leather. It would mean getting the rears done at a later stage but the Nappa is so much nicer leather.
Any thoughts PLEASE comment - can't decide. OEM colour and grain OR OEM colour but fine Nappa grain.
Any comments appreciated  :happy2:

I tried to get a bore scope down the inlet to see if there was a noticeable improvement before and after but I kept hitting something and couldn't get a good picture so have had to rely on my impression of the car after it was done.  The amount of crap that came out the exhaust was about the same as when I DIY'd it last year with some seafoam and the initial feel of the car was certainly good.  I got another 2MPG's on the drive home and it ticks over slightly better.  Would I get it done again?  Probably not as I really haven't noticed a massive gain from when I used seafoam last year.

The car needed its yearly service so went to Awesome GTi to get it done and get their stamp for proof.  While it was there they kindly coded corner lights for me.  Rubbish picture but shows it working

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FQ4_2014%2FCornerlights.jpg&hash=cd6ac06ff4c813d9cdd58bd6870ec834b479eb3a)

On the hunt for a GTi/R32 rear bench now so I can keep my standard ED30 bench and recover the new one in Nappa and the plaid I have left.

Now that you've tried both, would you recommend Seafoam or Terraclean ?
Did you do the Seafoam yourself ? There seems to be conflicting info on both. Would be good to get a few more mpg, as mine struggles to return 30mpg, even when I'm driving Miss Daisy....

Without actual evidence it is impossible to say which is better so could not actually recommend either one. From my thoughts though I'd have to say SeaFoam DIY just for costs!! As I said I  wasn't able to get a clear picture of the before and afters but from my impressions of driving the car and the trip computer info I really haven't noticed a big difference between the two.  The big worry with DIY seafoam is hydro locking the engine which would be bad, but if your confident to try it the costs are considerably less than terraclean.  With SeaFoam I got an improvement of around 2MPG but only really lasted a couple of weeks then back to normal.  I'v only just had the terracleaned so don't know how long the effects will last.  I will update when its got a few weeks driving done  :happy2:

I didn't know 100% but Awesome were quite confident that as I had a 2008MY car, highline display and LUX pack from factory it was more likely to be ok.  IFAIK if the car has LUX pack (follow me home lights, puddle lights etc) from factory it needs a 30byte CCM so should be ok.

Before fitting I had the disks skimmed as there was a small lip on them.  Been for a test drive and already the stopping power is noticeably better.  Needs to bed in a little still but very happy so far with the improvement

I seafoamed it last year and had a terraclean this year. I'm still noticing an increase in mpg's but power etc same really.
I don't think it'll matter at all about the splash guards - maybe keep it cleaner?

Update from Del at Optimus Trimmers - His supplier has let him down with the Nappa.  They cannot get hold of the leather we chose to use............ but they can supply basically the same shade unfortunately its Bentley leather - meant to be nicer quality but double the price.  Del has pulled a genius move and convinced them that it should be the same price as the other Nappa that was ordered cause they shouldn't have taken the order in the first place - the man is a legend!!! So Iv got to wait a little longer but get better leather than before - Happy days!!

I fitted a MK6. RVC camera last year and the other week it just died on me so called Eddie-NL who told me it was probably the one of the small wires that go into the camera itself.

Took the badge apart -

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FRVC_Fix_2014%2FRVCFix-01.jpg&hash=7843e050d0e7c971e6a399633476b71f9f2f3dff)

Found that ALL three of the wires had snapped clean off!!!

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FRVC_Fix_2014%2FRVCFix-02.jpg&hash=d45d5f5f2a2897086d190a666bcf131f41e7e87b)

There was no way of repairing them and as luck would have it Eddie had a replacement camera in stock - paid for it yesterday and got it today.  In an effort to relieve some stress on the wires I covered the end in liquid rubber, taped it up and put a cable tie round the end.  The cable tie had to be positioned right cause it was fowling the mechanism first.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FRVC_Fix_2014%2FRVCFix-03.jpg&hash=bc614813699ebc9242b51b3c926eef58c1fe9975)

YAY!!!!! Its works again - amazing how dependant I became on the camera.  Really noticed not having it.  Big thanks to Eddie-NL who, as always, was really helpful in getting it working again  :happy2: :happy2: :happy2: :happy2: :happy2:

Interesting to see that problem with the RVC - wonder if many others have had the issue.
Great to see the progress on the seats - couldn't believe it when I read about the leather, but at least it has worked out well in the end!
I don't expect an answer if you want to keep it for the finished pics, but are you just repainting the seat backs in black, or going for Steel grey?

When I spoke with Eddie-NL about my issue with the RVC he called it straight away so I guess it's a known problem.
I'm just getting the seat backs painted in the standard gloss black - they are quite scratched so wanted them fresh. I did think long and hard about making them grey as Iv seen it done and looks amazing but decided against it. My RNS has a gloss black section around the buttons so it ties in with that. The RNS is the only bit of gloss black on the inside so it'll work out ok i think

Iv had MK3 Scirocco white MFD clocks ready to fit for a while but really want the colour MFD version. A MK6 colour MFD set came up so did some research and looked like I could use my MK3 Scirocco and these MK6 Golf instruments to make a hybrid that'll work in the MK5

Here is how I did it....

Finished, not installed but will be making the trip to see Eddie_NL at some point to get them installed with some other bits.

Its a similar conversion when using golf mk5 clocks in Caddys/Touran which Iv done a number of times for clients when I did retrofits in the past. Good VW keep the internals relatively swappable in that respect.

When you sprayed the bumper wirh that plasti dip does it need to be sanded down and prepped properly? Or does that stuff go straight on with a proper clean?

All I did was clay bar then used some panel wipe to degrease it and applied the plasti dip. I masked about 2 inch outside of the area so i had something to peal away. I used about four coats so it was thick and then pealed away what I didnt want. Its been on for ages now and hasnt come away. If I ever want to remove it I can just peal it off and the paint underneath is untouched. It dries with a slight texture so not absolulty smooth but where iv used it it looks right. Dipmycar on youtube has loads of tutorials and fonzy does some interesting projects  :happy2:

That pic of the Recaro seat back looks great - glad to see they're coming along well, & the trimmer looks to have done a great job. Will be an awesome mod once done.
Nice work on the dials, and on the vid - the dials are fiddly, and I found the same issue on the needles - felt like you'd break something until you find the way is to twist them off the spindle. On my old mkiv I did a similar dial face swap on a set of standard mkiv full FIS dials using a 25th Anni / Bora Sport cluster to make a full FIS set with the Anni / Bora Sport trims & needles - they were pretty rare from factory.

The cluster should bring the mk5 bang up to date once fitted  :happy2: Can't be anything left to do to the interior after these?!

Thank you guys  :drinking:
The doorcards and armrest have not been finished yet but Del @ Optimus Trimmers is hoping to have them done over the coming weekend. I really can't wait to see them in the flesh and get it all home to fit.
I will compare the weight of the standard ED30 seats and the wingbacks when I get them back and post the results here  :happy2:

Been a bit busy but the interior is in except for the rear bench.  I wanted it re trimmed as per standard but using Nappa but Del has shown me his idea of where the red stitching should go that will match the red stitching pattern better on the front seats.  I have to give the guy props, it really will look excellent when all together.  he has my spare rear bench and is finishing it off so will be complete soon.

Front door speaker upgrade all installed - I now have a ten speaker set up  :happy2:

My battery is as old as the car and have wanted to update the battery for a while.  After advice from the battery thread on the forum I decided to go for a Bosch S5 007.  Not sure how I managed it but two were delivered to me so I have one for sale if anyone wants it? I also got round to getting a proper length of heat wrap as the stuff I had on before was left over from a previous project and wasn't long enough

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FInterior_Refresh_2015%2FFeb%2FNewBattery.jpg&hash=ef5f6feef9bd2b3801170bbd1d521e81ca7126c4)

I replaced my fog lights with projector type a while ago and put LED bulbs in but have never been happy with the light output.  After reading @v4rley (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=6697) review of the new Gen 3 Cree set up I couldn't resist any longer and ordered a set.  the origonals are on the left and the Gen3 Cree are on the right - bit of a difference!!

Old on right of pic and new on left of pic - not tried a night drive but even in the daylight the difference is outstanding.  I have corner lights turned on which is why I want better light out put - I don't drive with my fogs on all the time  :signLOL:

Thank you  :happy2:

The best way is to find an R32/S3 that's being stripped or keep an eye for bits on eBay. In essence you'll need.....
Whole gearbox or just the transfer splitter box - that'll depend on how confident you are machining your current gearbox as the FWD boxes will need modification
Both front drive shafts
Prop shaft - make sure you get the brackets that weld onto the chassis to support this shaft
Rear subframe including diff, drive shafts, hubs etc. There are steel and alloy versions of the subframe and hubs available
ABS pump and ECU (complete unit) from an AWD car - any should do as long as the donor car is AWD
Duel Yaw sensor from the SAME car that the abs pump & ECU came from
You will need to either sheet metal your boot floor or cut the boot floor pan out the donor vehicle as the spare wheel well sits too low on your Pirelli and needs to be raised
Various brackets, heat shields etc on top of that list. Basically if you find a don't vehicle take anything that's attatched to the parts listed.
Iv probably forgotten something but that's about it

I'v been really busy the past few weeks and only been on the forum through my phone so its time for a bit of an update.  I still haven't taken pictures of the interior that does the re trim justice but hopefully a mate will be doing that soon.
Last week I booked in to Awesome GTi to have the main thermostat changed as my car was not getting hotter than 75ish and searching the forum I soon found the cause.  I debated doing it myself but Hassan sorted me out a good price and I decided to let them do the work.  While I was there saw some truly amazing cars and got me thinking again of more power!!
If you have followed my build thread you will see I intend to AWD my car and have all the bits ready to go.  I really do mean to get it done but just as I'm ready a rare part will come up and I focus on that instead.  My wingbacks with full length OEM plaid happened out the blue and my most recent mod did too.  Always on the look out for bits and one of the list was the colour display.  One came up and grabbed it and just been waiting for a chance to get to Eddie_NL for him to work his magic.
I made the herculean round trip in a day from where I am to Ed and back in a day - definitely not one of my best ideas but did it on Monday.   Got there and Ed was straight to work  We had problems with my colour dials as they appeared to be quite new and his tools were not talking with the colour cluster at all.  We ended up having to install my other Scirocco dials which are 200MPH, blue needle but white display until he could sort the colour ones out. Ed also installed the most up to date Can Gateway for me which means I get a coffee break warning  :signLOL:

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FDials_Q1_2015%2FColour_dials-03.jpg&hash=ef64bd6725f739030de57167a1cbc846db97ee42)

We attempted to get MK6 high beam assist going too, but simply ran out of time as I had a 6 hour journey ahead of me to get back home.  Literally the next day Ed called me with good news, he had cracked the issue with my colour display and they were ready to be sent back to me.  My colour dials were from a convertible which meant the picture was wrong of the doors opening etc.  Ed used his coding black magic and got the correct picture for my car - a 3 door.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FDials_Q1_2015%2FColour_dials-02.jpg&hash=d78b1b39a4689ae4e6809e51af4cc796c0ba1917)

He sent me the clocks special delivery and I had them the next day.  I fitted them as soon as I got back from work and I am well impressed!!  The white display makes a huge difference and really updates the interior, but the colour display is next level stuff!!!  Its also great to have all the buttons on the MK6 steering wheel that I bought from Ed a while back all working properly too.  On my instagram (mateguv) there are more pics and videos of these clocks showing the needle sweep etc. if you want to see it in action.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FDials_Q1_2015%2FColour_dials-01.jpg&hash=bbb8e37ae168d5e43d0fc700e628cca9a2f0fbbe)

:notworthy: Big thank you to Eddie_NL who never fails to impress with his knowledge and workmanship - cant wait to get the high beam assist working  :notworthy:

Thank you all for kind words. I can't take credit for coding these clocks that's all down to @Eddie-NL (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=2345) I simply(!?) found them
@GTi-Andy (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=10725) these clocks are a hybrid of a MK6 colour MFD rear (G6 unit) and a Scirocco face. Located after searching the Internet for a year and a bit. I don't have a part number as these are a blend of two clock units. If you find me on YouTube and Instagram (username is MateyGuv on both) vid of the clock mod and pics are there. Good luck finding bits  :happy2:

My tyres needed replacing so bit the bullet and changed all 4 to Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2.  So far I'm really impressed and much prefer them to the Bridgestone's I had on before.  It could be down to the previous set having only approx. 1.8 tread depth on them but the grip on the new set is awesome in comparison.  My MPG's have increased by a notable amount too.

I'm busy getting the rest of the parts I want for an AWD conversion but nearly there, figure if Im going to do it I may as well polly bush, Exhaust (will need changing anyway), roll bars, SALK and alloy arm it while the bits are off.

Iv had a problem with my Ed.......

Took my 2007 Edition 30 DSG for a short drive yesterday and while moving in slow traffic the accelerator stopped providing acceleration yet the gear indicator said it was in gear. The engine then stalled. I was able to put the car into neutral and restart it then got back home. Later on I went to start the car and all good, went down the road and engine management light came on and when coming to a stop engine stalled again.
Got it home and started again but would only idle for a few seconds then stall again. Plugged my scanner in (eBay special) and no fault codes but eml still on. Disconnected the battery and left for 5 then reconnected and it started and was able to idle for about a minute then died again.

The eBay special wasn't giving me any help so bit the bullet and bought a legit Ross-Tech cable from Gendan (http://www.gendan.co.uk/product_VCHU.html) after searching this site for recommendations and they didn't let me down.  Got it delivered net day so was able to do a proper scan.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FQ2_2015%2FVCDS.jpg&hash=a649edc590cab0cd95f9576960ae8b1a27d7b3b1)
The scan revealed a problem with the LPFP so asked for some advice from the forum and @Dave J (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=6566) and @fuscobal (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1393) came to the rescue. Many thanks guys  :happy2: :drinking: :happy2:

It was either gonna be the thrust sensor or the LPFP itself. Dave kindly supplied the part number for the sensor (06E 906 051K just incase anyone reading this needs it) and fuscobal kindly advised me what is required to change the LPFP to a TTRS unit, which I have as part of my 4WD plans, so I had all bases covered.
Spoke to my local TPS this morning who happened to have the sensor in stock.  I wanted to try the sensor first as this would be the easiest to swap out.  Their delivery van happened to be passing me on its rounds today and they agreed to send it out on the van for me.  They gave me trade price and even delivered it!  Well impressed - I have spend a fair bit with them but still was chuffed they would deliver it to me  :happy2:

Old V New thrust sensor
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FQ2_2015%2FThrust_Sensor.jpg&hash=bf9985d4097dfd29977f4cd64e7dde9a9e85ab0b)

The swap over took all of 5 mins.  I cleared all faults then turned the car on and it fired up as expected, Iv let it get to temp and gone for a drive and it didn't miss a beat. Just run another scan and all seems good now.

Fingers crossed that's all it was - thanks again Dave and Fuscobal  :happy2: :drinking: :happy2:

No pressure washer just a decent hose. After covering the major electrics and alternator then used degreaser and agitated it. Hosed off and dried well then used some dressing. Kept my fingers crossed and it started - have to be honest I don't like doing it cause there are so many nasty stories about people messing their cars up washing the engine bay  :scared: @AndyBrown (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=10128)

Think I'll just sponge the degreaser off, it's a bit intimidating for me letting a hose loose on it.

Iv had a small nagging issue with my colour clocks since they were installed where the handbrake on light was showing up as the bulb out warning due to the foils being different.  Not a major issue but annoyed the hell out of me - every time I put the handbrake on it looked like I had a bulb out and no handbrake on  :fighting:
All good now - never thought I'd be so happy to see the handbrake on light  :signLOL:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FQ2_2015%2FHandbrake.jpg&hash=dde86b3e452006c828eaf2adfd5be7cf3fa8bbfd)

After reading good things about this stuff on the forum thought I'd give this stuff a go. For 20 notes its worth a go, put it in this morning and done nearly 150 miles already. Cant say I noticed any difference but all the miles were motorway so hard to tell at the moment

Got round to fitting a Unibrace

All fitted

I'm impressed how different the car feels already.  Not gone for a big drive or given it a proper try but certainly feels more together round the bends  :happy2:

Used a full tank with the 44k in it and filled up again. Seem to be getting 2mpg more on the same daily journey so looks like it's done something. Not noticed any improvement in performance or starting though

Made a spur of the moment purchase which I think will look good. After seeing these wheels on a VRS months ago I always thought they would look cool on my car. Sort of ed35 flavour but a little different. I was offered these and for the money I simply couldn't resist and have taken a punt they will suit. Come off a VRS at PDI because the owner wanted the 19", so they are as new with tyres that have done a massive 20 miles!!!! Wish I'd waited a bit a few weeks ago before I got new tyres  :signLOL:

Only thing I'm not sure of is the center cap size - I think they are 56mm

Thanks mate, have to say I'm really happy I had the doorcards and armrest Napa'd and red stitched. Does make it all gel together more. I'm still waiting on the rear bench to be done - it's gonna have Napa and red stitch but the stitching is gonna be slightly different to standard ED30 to match where the red is on the wingbacks. its bit hard to tell, what size tyres are on them? they look quite big, with a smaller tyre i think they could work! its always bit hard with a mk5 as they suit the edition wheels so well! and you don't want it to look like it has reps on it either!  :happy2:

Tyres are 225/40R18 I agree the standard wheels suit it really well but Iv always liked the VRS Gemini's so wanted to give it a go. Think I'm going to fit them properly over the weekend and see what I think when they are in the car

I prefer the Pescaras over those wheels, although they suit well the Skoda Octavia. Not so sure about the Eddie.

I think it's easier to like more Motorsport wheels (OZ, Team Dynamics, Neuspeed, etc.) or some from BBS, VMR and the likes that look good in almost all cars.

Lets see them fitted.

Not on yet, cleaning and polishing them then gonna put some carbon collective sealer on them. I'm working today but plan to do it tomorrow - just couldn't resist offering them up last night  :signLOL:

I'm not planning to get rid of the Pescaras as I agree they look the business one car but mine need a little TLC so wanted another set of wheels while they are worked on. I got the Skoda wheels and tyres at an excellent price so if nothing else iv got my next set of tyres sorted  :happy2:

Fitted the wheels properly today, took the opportunity to really clean the arches too. Used some Carbon Collective wheel sealer on the wheels as they are "as new" so future cleaning should be easier.  Im still working out the right centre caps to get for these wheels but I will get some fitted as soon as I figure it out.  I think MK4 R32 wheel centre caps will fit.

I think I dig these wheels but its clear I need to lower the car now

Thanks for the kind words mate  :happy2: I'm not getting rid of the Pescara's so they will be back when they have been refurbished - maybe - The more I look at the car the more I'm liking these wheels.  My ED30 has been messed with quite a lot so it will never look like an ED30 should to someone that knows their Golf's.  When I AWD it I'm not sure it'll technically be an ED30 anymore  :surprised:

The carbon collective stuff is the muts nutd mate, got it on my calipers and they are still holding up like new nearly 6 minths on, had it on my old alloys as well and they laughed at winter roads! A jet wash once a week is all they really needed and normal shampoo if proper dirty

If you want Eibach Sportlines for DSG, I'll be selling mine with 15.000 miles on them. I got H&R -30 mm instead because I want to fit Koni Sport dampers and was advised that they don't work well with Eibach Sportlines.

@Jimmm (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=8344)  you've gone way back in my thread!  :happy2: End goal is big power and at the time my thoughts for the traction issues was to fit the TT hubs and wishbones. This adds track width that should help traction. The TT rack, as far as I know, feels the same as the golfs but the ends are like a hook instead of straight. This would allow the clearance needed for 9 inch width wheels. I have since changed plans and am going to put S3 running gear in my ED to make it 4WD and sold the old TT set up

Got some Sportlines and fitted them yesterday.  Three went without a problem but the last front one was a pig

Rears Fitted

Got careless with a hammer on the front passenger side persuading the strut out and mashed the brake hose so bad it split  :scared:

Think I need to put some spacers on the wheels now, maybe 5mm??  :signLOL:

5 mm is the minimum. 8 mm should be fine as well. I have 8" wide wheels with ET45 and no rubbing. :happy2:

I hope you'll like them. For me it sits perfect. Just don't forget that your OEM dampers will have a shorter life.

I'd say the front is spaced perfectly...8mm on the back is all you need  :congrats:

Thanks guys - with it sitting lower in really liking these wheels now. Think I'm gonna defo go 8mm rear and possibly 5mm on front.

Yesterday I surprised myself and did a DSG basic reset using VCDS - gearbox feels so much nicer now

Iv had the retrimmed wingbacks and door cards in the car for a while but have been waiting for Del @ Optimus trimmers to have a chance to do the rear bench in the same Nappa.  I got a second hand rear leather bench from an R32 and dropped it off when I collected the wingbacks.  I asked Del to trim them with the remaining plaid I had in Nappa as per standard ED30 rear bench.......... he was going to do exactly as I asked but he said he had come up with an idea that would follow the lines of the red stitch the wingbacks had better.  After a few pics were sent with exactly what he meant I came to the conclusion that his OCD is worse than mine and he had a vision of how the rears would work with the wingbacks. Its hard to describe without seeing the ED30 front and rear seats next to each other but the red stitch does conform to a pattern front to back.  The wingbacks red stitch is in a very different position as they are completely different shape to the standard seats.

Anyhow, Del has sent me a teaser pic of the upper rear bench and I wanted to share......

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FQ2_2015%2FRear_seats-01.jpg&hash=b5474dd28bd7c5672f5078960e655c5cdf70611f)

There is something very different to these seats and its not the armrest, anyone see what it is??  :popcornsoda:

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FQ2_2015%2FRear_seats-02.jpg&hash=c74fce93122b619e61ec4af384eb8629a4699a59)

What's planned for the lower rear is mind blowing - credit to Del, he man is a genius  :notworthy:

Not much to report on the Golf apart from fitting passenger side boot for coming up MOT.
I had the money together for the AWD conversion but used it to buy a posh ring for my girlfriend who said yes and is now my fiancé  The golf is going to take a back seat until the Wedding next July but after that I'll be back on it. Loads of testing and waiting on custom tooling to make end result better finish. @v4rley (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=6697) has come up trumps with some excellent LED brake lights which will cut the costs of the full fat versions dramatically (need 6 bulbs!!!) Not been using the Golf so much as work means star ship miles so got a daily driver (nothing exciting, just a Skoda Diesel) I really miss the power but needs must....

Not lost the love for the Golf though so spent some time on her today.

Iv been wanting to swap the seatbelts for a while to the Edition 35 belts as they have a red strip on the sides and I thought they would finish off my interior well.  I got the belts from @kylej1 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=7122)  who was trying to fit them to an Audi S3, but he was unable to do it as the rear tensioners are completely different and wouldn't work.

When I got them I decided to give them a clean as they were out the car and it was easy enough to do - I was amazed how dirty they were!!

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FQ4_2015_Seatbelt_Change%2FBelts_cleaning.jpg&hash=d53f51fa78f1745c53206bb2da687038bee60301)

To get to the belts meant having to rip the interior out the car again

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FQ4_2015_Seatbelt_Change%2FInterior_strip.jpg&hash=54bd9956e101d0ebc3566bc6dec858cadb2e2d83)

When I had the interior out last time I managed to smash some of the drivers side rear door card fixings so I took the opportunity to install new ones as it was bugging the hell out of me knowing they weren't there

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FQ4_2015_Seatbelt_Change%2FDoor_card_fixings_fix.jpg&hash=5564909432874cdb7581d3454bebbf5728cc1243)

Once I got the units out I needed to take the belts out of the original tensioners so pulled it to full extension then held on tight!!

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FQ4_2015_Seatbelt_Change%2FBelt_out.jpg&hash=3badb5b8fc99b83f38a64ca48a522447cd1135d4)

Worked the belt out so the pin can be extracted

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FQ4_2015_Seatbelt_Change%2FBelt_out_pin.jpg&hash=0a447e09b516557900e27c107347985e229327ef)

Brace the tensioner so it doesn't unwind - that would be a massive problem!!

Install new belt making sure its the right belt, in the right position and the anti rattle bunch of fabric is facing the right way.  Push pin in so it fits flush with belt then pull through making sure its seated properly

Rears fitted, also showing the old belt next to the Edition 35 belts

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FQ4_2015_Seatbelt_Change%2FOld_V_New.jpg&hash=5f0d489acd3dce5cf6328c1f67aa289def476eca)

Fronts fitted

Then I re fitted the interior and all is done   By the time I finished it was pitch black outside so this picture is not the best but you can see the front and rear belts on the seats.  Hope you all approve?

Just spent the last however long reading the build thread from start to finish.

Lovely lovely car. Love the detail and cannot wait to see what next year brings.

Reading this has given me a kick up the back side to do all the things to my gti that I have wanted to do for months.

@mateyguv i followed your guide on the quad lights but tiger sealed them 3 times.  Left a 3 day drying time in between and still holding on fine since may this year.  I might remove them this week to take a look at them and see if they are splitting or not.

Hello mate,

Good to hear yours are still holding - your getting condensation in the lens though ain't you? I like the inner lens to be flush with the boot skin so tighten them right up so that's maybe why mine separate cause of how tight I do the nuts. From my testing the tiger seal always failed eventually so I didn't want that to happen and kept developing my method. Iv come up with a way that will not fail and seals perfectly - I'm fussy like that and want the knowledge that they won't split over time. I found that the problem with tiger is the surface area your asking it to bond is so thin it doesn't really stand a chance in the long run. I hope yours to hold though  :happy2:
Did you photoshop your grills lipstick? What do you think?

@mateyguv i had a very small amount of condensation once in one of them when it rained really heavily but never since.

Yeah I know what you mean about the thin surface area, got me worried at first an all.
Didnt photoshop it yet,  waiting to see how it looks on the car when i get the bumper sprayed and fitted and then take it from there.

Found some smart genuine MK5 plaid/tartan bits and couldn't help ordering them (sad I know)

All from walletwerks.com

Card holder and key fob
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FQ1_2016%2FE3885732-CC65-41C4-B6C6-7AD49B9D4184.jpg&hash=e8fce99b0f9bbb97f5e93f0fc4300d7dd82e206e)

Another shameless photo
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FQ1_2016%2F31E6BF7D-1DD1-4240-940E-4ACE730A1682.jpg&hash=5b9aa5e82bbdca3449095125d3f21e281580f038)

Iv decided to keep my car undercover as I am using my Skoda as a daily and the golf stays on the drive most the time. Iv found a storage solution 10 mins from me that is secure, insulated and has got power to it. I can come and go when I please and my next bay neighbours are a rather tasty MK1 convertible and an Aston Martin DB9
It is strange not seeing her on my drive but she is covered from the elements and out of sight so I'll get used to it

Thought I'd give the MK7 climate panel mod a go -  never liked the MK6 as, imvho, looks like there are loads of blank switches on it.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FMobile_Uploads%2FC205DBC2-6D50-452A-A59D-D08B9A5CBD4C.jpg&hash=11542a8a355dcefb080375f347be7befacf4b5da)

I got the scirocco surround as its flat and not recessed in like the Mk7 so think it'll suit the Mk5 better. I plan to chop the Mk5 and scirocco surround tops off the plastic weld the scirocco lower to the mk5 upper and then it should fit perfectly. I'll need to spray it when done to match of course. Think it'll look cool

As the Golf is in storage thought it would be best to get a Carcoon to keep her safe and sound
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FMobile_Uploads%2F64F6CB65-D7E2-4AFB-ACA5-002B6F52B684.jpg&hash=c7036ee2bba94bfb7552fae649b233e0cd1adbd7)

After talking to the guys at Carcoon I thought the Large Veloce would be best but I was a little worried about the standard plastic as from reviews people said it was a bit thin. Carcoon asked where it was going to be kept etc and offered to make me one with the thicker outdoor spec skin. It wouldn't have any Windows but that wasn't an issue for me. Bought it and 10 days later it arrived. I put a plastic membrane down then an 18mm thick chipboard base down
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FMobile_Uploads%2FB3451394-F647-48B3-9EFB-019150E11EF6.jpg&hash=1b24e01f04dc397bad058c9137dbb3177e280674)

Set up was easy and now the golf is all protected

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FMobile_Uploads%2F6DB9A0D4-B0D0-4FE7-A28F-202C6DBD3388.jpg&hash=1c1ecddba2276e0c54424ed592001ebd2a05ee6b)

Quality bit of kit and the guys at Carcoon couldn't have been more helpful  :notworthy:

@dansmith180 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=9450) the name is proper sketchy!! Need to be careful when saying it  :signLOL: Carcoon charged me standard price to make one with the outdoor skin and even threw in a complete spare set of filter  :congrats: They really were great to deal with and I can't fault them. I haven't used or seen the standard skins and can't see them being a problem but just saw a few reviews saying people thought they were thin.
Title: Re: Ed30 #1521
Post by: MateyGuv on February 28, 2016, 02:03:40 pm
@Tfsi_Mike (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=293) I have never seen a Leon's belt set up but as long as it's a pin type they should work. The problem with the Audi was the rears were stiched onto the spools. Don't suppose you have a picture of the seat belt units at full extension? I think I could tell if I saw one  :happy2:

@Tfsi_Mike (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=293) the ETKA pictures may be alright, not sure if it would show a pin or stiched though. You can't just buy the belt as far as I know it's the complete unit

Boldsport goodies arrived - got the door card LED's and the rear/brake light replacement because I was working on something and needed to replace the normal bulbs with LED's to match what I was doing.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FEd30_Dec_2013%2FBoldsportbulbs.jpg&hash=fa0124dfe3ffa34a2a322d3905ce56ce35ecdb7d)

Door card with standard bulb - the pic makes the light output seem really bad - it aint great but not as bad as this pic makes out

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2FMateyGuv%2FEd30_Dec_2013%2FDoorlightbefore.jpg&hash=a6c98189f41a0fa83b7980764c9373f0ff113750)

LED's fitted to door card lights - amazing difference.

So weddings are really expensive and I need to explore some options. One of these is selling my Ed30 which would kill me but I only plan to get married once so I want it right.
Would anybody be interested in buying my car as it is? Iv not thought of a price as its not something I really want to do but just seeing interest. I say I haven't thought of a price but I feel my car is up there with other nice examples but has loads of extra touches on top. It's done 48k and all the mods are listed in this build thread. PM me if interested

Thanks for the suggestions guys but everything has been arranged for the UK so going overseas ain't an option. I am only playing with the idea of selling but it's worth exploring unfortunately.

Just to be clear I have all the standard parts still so if push comes to shove I can make it standard again. I won't sell the interior and keep the car as I don't think I'd ever be able to replace it.

Wow you've been very busy and I'm loving those multi colour clocks  :jumping:
Title: Re: Ed30 #1521
Post by: MateyGuv on August 29, 2016, 11:30:48 am
They really do change the feel of the interior and brings it up to date nicely. It took a while to find them but I really wanted the colour 200mph clocks.....not that the car will ever do 200mph but it looks cool. Quite a rare set tbf @r5gtt (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=11199)
They may be for sale soon  :happy2:
Title: Re: Ed30 #1521
Post by: r5gtt on August 29, 2016, 11:46:38 am
Along with a mk6 MFSW I'd say they look amazing and change the look of the interior bringing it up to date

The problems being that they cost a fortune and require the ABS pump to be replaced so get tricky and then the programming   then I'd need a CH as mine is mid line atm.  :ashamed:
I like the earlier scirocco MFD you had before the newer one although the newer one is banging  :jumping: @MateyGuv (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=7486)

I will leave it up to the new owner if they want to introduce themselves and update this thread or start a new one. I know the Golf is in great hands

I was lucky that the people who were serious about the car understood what it was all about and knew the rarity of the bits and bobs on it. Hello everyone, hopefully some of you remember me? I sold my ED30 a while ago because I needed money for my wedding. Got married then got diagnosed with something nasty and ain’t been able to work since. My YouTube how to videos generate me about £25 a month which isn’t a lot but does help me out. They have changed the goalposts for getting paid on you tube so although I have the views I am under the required number of subscribers to continue getting some money out of it. I feel like scum asking but would you consider subscribing to me? I need to get to 1000 subscribers by sometime in February - please delete this post if I’m extracting the urine

Help a dubber out please  :innocent:

I installed a Genuine GPS/GSM/FM/DAB antenna a while ago and was waiting for an eBay deal on an RNS510 DAB. One came up so grabbed it, bought a Bluetooth kit from Eddie-NL which meant doing this to my car to install it right - hate seeing the Ed like this!!

Bits to fit - custom loom for MDI,BT & Aux. As normal top notch stuff from Eddie

BT Audio works. I'm pleasantly surprised that the info displays through the RNS and I have control over next/previous track on the RNS as this was something that confused me when looking for kits. In the end I just went with Eddies advice and really happy  :happy2: Also I have not had to mess around with any re wiring to get stereo - it was all good out the box

Title: ...and 1521 is BACK!!
Post by: niddnet on May 18, 2023, 02:55:21 pm
Hello everyone.

I'm a brand new poster here.  And this is my first real post, other than updating the Ed30 Register.

Just to tell you that 1521 is now back again on her original 57 Plates.

How do I know?  Because I am now the VERY proud owner.  I have resurrected this thread with @MateyGuv (https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=7486) permission and blessing, as I know there was a lot of following for the car.  I did NOT get it direct from Mateyguv, and according to the V5 I will be the SEVENTH owner - lucky number 7.  I think James was maybe number 3 from the paperwork I've got?

What can I tell you so far?

Well, the mileage is approx 78k now.  It did NOT come with any of the AWD stuff (but it's been a while, so I imagine that was sold off).  The rear cup holder is broken.  The immobiliser chip in the spare key doesn't work (something I actually only found out AFTER accidentally breaking the immo chip on the first key).

So right now, the mileage is definitely NOT increasing - as poor Ed is Immovable!!!  With huge thanks to @MateyGuv (https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=7486) he has contacted the guys who originally did the coding of the clocks (remember the sexy Mk6 colour MFD with the scirocco R dials?) - and they've recommended a reliable auto locksmith who's coming over to sort me out... and then I'll actually be able to DRIVE it!!

Just for the record; this won't be a resurrection of all the mods and work on the vehicle; I am disabled, and health, work, and natural lack of talent mean I'll be nowhere near qualified enough to follow in Matey's footsteps.  My plan is to maintain, and maybe make small increments where I can for the time being.

So if anyone wants to know where #1521 is... HIYA!   :happy2:... but don't expect content like before, just setting expectations :D

Oh yea, and this is my first ever Golf, and only my second ever VW!  Be nice to me :P

Hello Pal  :happy2:
Not gonna lie it felt weird not seeing my name next to number 1521 even after all these years! I’m really chuffed you decided to update the forum about the car and over the moon that you seem like a proper decent bloke who will care for her. I think I was the 5th owner. It started as a dealer self registered car then was sold to a local business owner who then had it registered to his son then was sold to someone else. I bought it off them in Scotland.
When you get the car working again get some pictures up - I’d love to see her again  :pomppomp: :pomppomp: :pomppomp:

Absolutely will - I will be happy to give a status report.

@MateyGuv (https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=7486) when she's going again, will get you on a Whatsapp Voice call and take you for a drive again haha :)

Really appreciate the general offer of advice and help - I'm sure I'm going to need it.

(my other motor is a Touareg RLine on a 63 with 95k.  Just updated it to 21" wheels.  It had the original Tarragonas but they were pretty beat, so I got some Mallory 21", newly refurbed... shiny... and were a factory option too.)

Anyway - more Golf news when a) the weather is nicer again, and b) when I've had some new keys paired to the immo since I broke the one working chip!!  D'oH!!!

All,

With a heavy heart, #1521 must go to a new home, again.

I am in love with this car, and I am captivated by the passion, workmanship and technology that has gone into making it what it is today.  Sadly love, passion and technology - they're not going to pay the bills :(

As well as this, unfortunately, health problems have meant that, since being in my ownership I have covered probably no more than 200 miles in it.  And that's just not fair on the car.  Now an opportunity has presented itself which requires some cash to realise.

The car is in Harrogate, North Yorkshire.

I do not want to enter into any bargaining / etc. in this open forum - this thread is dedicated to everything that #1521 is, rather than the figures of a buy/sell.

You can email me directly (to 1521@nidd.net) or contact me via WhatsApp by clicking/tapping this link:  https://is.gd/ed30_1521 (https://is.gd/ed30_1521)

Due to work, I tend not to answer my phone, so don't be offended if you call and I don't answer.  I will (of course) happily talk to serious buyers, but would rather do the first discussions via whatsapp or equivalent! :)

Not the news I expected nor wanted to come here and post, but there we go.

Maybe a great time for @MateyGuv (https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=7486) to buy back?! :)

Thanks everyone - please help me give #1521 a good new home!
