Title: Yousaf's Mk5 R32 Build Thread
Post by: yousafzafar on February 19, 2016, 12:50:30 pm
Hey All!

I recently picked up my all time dream car, a Mk5 R32 Manual. Being only 19, this car was my dream from before I even passed my driving test lol! But now finally I recently recieved my Two years no claims bonus meaning I could actually afford to insure myself on one of these gems!

I have had quite a few cars for a 19 year old lol, My first car when I passed at 17 was a Mk5 1.9 TDI Golf which I lowered on coilovers and plastidipped purple, after that I had an Audi A3 2.0 TDI which I slammed on Airlift XL Slam air ride, and I also had an Audi A3 2.0 Turbo which remained quite standard looking, but had a custom cat back exhaust system and a Ram Air induction kit. But the love for an R led me to buying one simply to fill my V6 craving!

My Bagged A3 TDI:

My Dipped Mk5 TDI:

My A3 2.0 TFSI DSG with an S3 Front End:

And finally, so not too long ago, on 02/02/2016 I purchased my very first R   , she is a bit of a fixer uper, but I still can't wait to begin making her mine!

The night I picked her up:

And some pics after a decent first car wash!:

I really can't wait to start on her build and to meet all the members on this forum!

Ps I also have instagram and it is @W88AKH for anyone who would like to follow  :happy2: :happy2:

Thanks!

Welcome to the forum.

What're your plans for the R32? What is the current spec?

I really am! The V6 and the Four Wheel Drive together create such an amazing experience

Hey, I suppose just the usual, nice set of alloys, general TLC and maybe whatever else comes to mind step by step lol!

And the car is a 2006 Manual, it's basically fully loaded, full leather heated seats, MFD 2 Sat Nav and a modestly worn in 75,000 miles engine

Thanks everyone!

So a few small updates

Uprated Brembo vented discs and pads fitted a few days ago, honestly such a nice difference on the brakes, feel much more confident driving now!

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fuploads.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F20160221%2Fb74a87dc93d9ed0634ac0919694349e2.jpg&hash=675c5b0bb76189229bc2a63bfe05ab2af6d6b564)

And here they are on the car once I had them fitted and got all four wheels rebalanced and re-done the four wheel drive alignment just to be on the safe side!

Also, if anyone is interested in the Mk6/Mk7 Golf R alloys I have on the car at the moment please let me know as I'm looking to sell them, they're not exactly for me!

Anddddddd, my new plate finally came! I just feel as though now I really have some big expectations when it comes to lows on this car simply because of the plate now

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fuploads.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F20160221%2F1e35762beed87b28790086ba8784c31c.jpg&hash=9486d9219ee1aa759479815a94e4c563cc9f240b)

And if anyone is interested in the plates, they were made by Raj at Full House Customs, would definitely recommend to anyone after some plates that stand out, such an amazing finish and a top guy too, was very nice and helpful!

Small update today, RNS 510 Finally fitted! Honestly I'm amazed at the amount of functions it has!

I installed an AUX switch whilst I was switching the units out, but the RNS 510 also has DVD playing capabilities, Bluetooth, Sat Nav etc, and just overall looks much better than my worn out MFD2

My old unit:

All out:

And new unit in:

DVD capabilities:

Aux also fitted:

Lol my first car was an Escort too at 18. However by 19, I was cruising around in a MK2 Golf GTI and that's where it all began........

Does your RNS play copied DVDs or only originals?

Nice write up :happy2:

Question about changing from MFD2 to RNS tho, are you having the infamous battery drain issue?

Hey, luckily for me as I already had a highline unit in there I am experiencing no power drain issues, will update and let you know if I do!

So far I have only tried originals, but I believe that copied dvd's dont work right?

Haha it really is, but I guess that's what happens when you choose to keep such a high risk car at such a young age lol , road tax hurts more though, £505.00 a year for nothing!

Nice one. I still think Rns510 is the best mod that I done too.

Definitely agree, I am literally in love with the unit!

Anddddd, a small update!

Finally got my custom cat back system done, the car sounded beautiful before but I just wanted a bit more of a raspy note along with better tips (as I love the placement of the tips on the R32, but the OEM ones just looked too small and I hated that they weren't slash cut tips!)

Anyhow, here is my car before:

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fuploads.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F20160226%2Fe7103659dc74aed510fdb0c3b55f129b.jpg&hash=7e5f599801c777092a3796137c3d968a95e45e8f)

And after, I am very much in love with the new slash cut tips and the bigger size too :

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fuploads.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F20160226%2Fa33123e88de8c16d28fb63e6f129dee6.jpg&hash=0c18d4f353372bb191d9112065224d97ef244e0e)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fuploads.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F20160226%2F5b99b21a18d366509248ad1db570ae38.jpg&hash=cdef5608eff716522afe61a37b1a26b64f8bc9ed)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fuploads.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F20160226%2F68ad16ccab867f9c85fdc6f559a92438.jpg&hash=7091810e0ff08c599f05e336747b8366f3c6199b)

The work was done by a local exhaust shop near where I live in London called Fast Lane Styling, they have done around 4-5 of my cars and honestly I could never fault their work. They are very friendly and professional and their prices are also very fair, would definitely recommend to anyone looking for an exhaust system in the London area.

That's all for now guys, hopefully more updates soon!

Haha cheers

Small update, so I sold my Golf R style alloys which originally came on the car when I purchased it, I've never really been the 'black on black' type of person and was really after some alloys that stood out a bit more. But long story short, I sold my alloys and my car was basically on axle stands at my local garage waiting for a pair of new shoes and I needed something urgently, I'm still not too sure on these, they were a bit of an impulse buy, so for now I guess we'll call them 'temporary wheels'

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fuploads.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F20160305%2Fcc35fb08c8a79716e352811f1471a2c5.jpg&hash=dd49e90992774566628948ab78ecf14113e83f2f)

And the new alloys:

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fuploads.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F20160305%2F51102e7cb148a78d53213d55f9eea56e.jpg&hash=fbefca47081b6fdbad2c7c50036dc32636eaa76c)

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fuploads.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F20160305%2F7a857cdad80928a73bb103a35fd56a50.jpg&hash=7bac92c485038b342f8474a7ded625ffdc9d388d)

I think they're gorgeous alloys but not sure if they really suit the car, opinions please?

And that's all for now
