Title: Creaking from rear when parked on a hill with handbrake
Post by: PhilNUK on November 25, 2021, 09:37:55 am
Hi guys

I noticed I get a creaking/groaning noise from the rear wheels of my car when parked on an incline with the handbrake on. The only way to prevent it is to have the handbrake pulled 100% up... this hasn't always been the case and sounds like somethings on its way out. Anyone experienced this?

That's probably just the car creeping backwards as the pads cool down and contract.  Sounds like the handbrake cables might need adjusting if the lever has to be fully up to lock the wheels.  Normally only need 3 clicks. How much pad material left?

there is plenty of brake pad left as recently had new put on it. I was hoping that would have fixed it.. I will speak to the guys about the handbrake cable. Cheers for the help  :innocent:

I have what sounds like the same issue. In my case it is because the car is actually moving slowly backwards when on an incline. Even if leave in gear, it will do it a little before settling.

I found that the handbrake on one side wasn’t working, meaning that the other side was doing all the work.

Easy way to check is to jack up the car and have both wheels in the air and handbrake off. Pull up the handbrake one click at a time and check to make sure each wheel is tightening evenly. In my case, one was tightening up and the other barely changing. I have a new caliper on the way.
