Title: tfsi camshaft carrier girdle replacement
Post by: Antreasv on May 06, 2022, 03:42:16 pm
Hello guys.. Started my first project on a Tfsi engine!
Building a new engine with forged internals my cylinder head is a rebuild one and missing cams and carrier girdle caps.
My question is: Does it affect the engine if i will buy good cams and use from a different engine the carrier girdle caps?

They should line up - but I would bolt it together without cams to check all the journals line up

Don’t forget that the fuel pump lobes on the intake cam wear. Check measurements before you install. Also make sure that you get a later intake cam because the design changed (it became two part) and the metal is harder.

Personally I would get hold of a complete head with cams. They are line bored at the factory to the cams as a complete unit. Not saying second hand cams wouldn't work, but to mitigate any risk of that......I'd get a complete head.
