Title: Couple of niggly issues...
Post by: richtung on May 18, 2022, 10:13:55 am
Hi guys,

Hope you are all well!

Just having a couple of issues that's chipping away to love for the Ed30!

Previously had an issue where the car would constantly lock/unlock whilst driving - this has been fixed after getting the Ignition Barrel switch replaced. Another issue which i thought was linked is that when i come to pull the key out of the ignition, the car no longer unlocks and turns on the interior lights - basically doesn't seem to recognise the key has been pulled out of the barrel. Can anyone give me an idea of what to look at next?

Second issue - The factory fit xenons no long do their up/down sweep when starting engine so are now permanently pointing down. A quick google indicates this could be a faulty auto level sensor. Has anyone else had this issue in the past and was a faulty auto level sensor the culprit?

As usual, thanks in advance guys! These niggly problems are taking its toll on both my wallet and patience but i guess it comes with the territory for a 15 year old car!

As a guess.....

Sounds like the key in/out switch is either missing (if aftermarket part) or not wired up/configured correctly when replaced.

The Xenon range or ABS controller (can't remember which) will tell you if the level sensor is faulty, but it does sound like that's the issue.  They often get broken when garages unfamiliar with the car yank the wishbones down too far when replacing springs/struts.

You'll have to get it scanned/checked over to confirm.

Yep, that is definitely the territory but consider yourself very fortunate if that is all you have wrong with it.

Thanks Pudding as always!

The weird thing is (which i forgot to mention) was that after the ignition switch was replaced, the key out functionality was fine for the first drive. Its only thereafter its stopped working.

Xenons - yep, will get it scanned.

Yeah, These are small niggles compared to what others are experiencing - still annoying none the less. Ah well!

Cheers

Ah OK.  For some reason, my memory is telling me the in/out key behaviour can be changed with VCDS coding, but I could be wrong.

Sounds like some laptop action is required in any case!

Annoying indeed, but the xenons obviously need to point in the right direction for legal/visibility reasons    My passenger door doesn't unlock, the bonnet switch has gone, etc....so I just unplugged them   Not wasting getting on for 300 quid on non essential (to me) parts  :happy2:
