[The arms came with the bushings but I took them off. Now the bushings are at my mechanic who is trying to separate the bushings from the brackets.
I will use the OEM TT bushing with the OEM brackets.
What kind of discs are these?
1.
fine brakes, Rex !! :congrats:
2.
Why toe out, Rex ???
I'd recommend 0°10' toe in per side on front and 0°5 on rear !!
3.
I don't felt any harshness when fittig S3 arms and bushings.
I would say this is probably the fastest "slow" cars on here!
I think your absolutley crackers but well done anyways!!!
Great car! It's feared by many!Thank you! If someone (anyone) fears my car it means I've done something right. :drinking:
Keep up the good work! :happy2:
I think your absolutley crackers but well done anyways!!! I'll take that as a compliment :drinking:

Not sure this is the correct one. But I will know on Monday . My initial impression is that the steering is much lighter and I do not like that. Before the last wheel alignment the car felt like it was on rails. Now I seems more vague. I hope I lost the feeling and gained stability. Only time will tell so fingers crossed.
good luck, and drive carefully :drinking:Thanks! :drinking:
Think I told you that toe in (same amount) on front is much betterThanks!
for steering feel and cornering speed.
All the other data is perfect !!
Good luck and have fun !! :happy2:
Rex, your car impressively proves that 150 HP is enough to be fast on track.
I ever knew that tyres, suspension and brakes are more important for good
lap times than engine power.
Be happy about that lightweight engine under the hood. The heavier 2.0 TFSI
won't provide a better handling and much more traction issues than you have
now with the less torquy 1.4 TSI.
I sometimes thought about better driving a significiently less weighting 2.0 FSI
Golf/A3 at Clubslalom events (Autocross). I doubt being faster with the heavy GTI.
Your times rex are very good and now that you know the track quite well you will probably have little to improve unless you loose weight or put on even stickier tires. If you loose about 100Kg, I think you could go for the medium compound Kumhos !I am watching the videos and discovering new mistakes. So I think I can further improve my lines.
My GTI was exactly 1407 kg incl. me (90 kg) and 3/4 tank measured on all corners at Raeder Motorsport.
Now the car weighs about 15 - 20 kg less.
So about 1380 kg incl. me and half tank or clearly below 1300 kg without driver.
OMG!!! Excuse me for asking but are you sure those figures are correct??
If they are your car is very, very, very light... NeilM has 1329kg! Yes he has DSG (30kg-40kg) and rollcage (another maybe 10kg-20kg) but nothing else...
I am really surprised that you car weighs so little :drinking:
All the best!
Rex, why is your caster that different from right to left? :confused:It is not that big. It is within the VW limits. I think the maximum difference allowed from left to right is 30minutes.
Glad to hear your're happy with it, Rex !!I have to wait to see how the new setting is performing on the track.
I bet I have more toe in than you at the moment and I love it even more.
I just have to tell you I am extremely pleased with my car. It was a real joy to drive it... This was the best Hungaroring trip from this point of view.
The car was extremely well balanced and very predictable. It would oversteer and understeer without any surprises. I wonder it I can make it handle much better than this.
You were visibly faster on corners than your mates and slower on straights.Yes, you are right. I honestly think I am the slowest car on the straights.
I personally don't like wearing gloves although I have tried them. I miss a good steering feel.Basically my gear is:
What about air condition? Off?Yes, air condition is off. I can not afford to lose any bhp when using this.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1237.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff469%2Fvladpanut%2FPA106189.jpg&hash=f3d718523b4214e223ce609f42608c3a0f6caac9)He is the guy to the right.
Nice details.
ED30 splitter will look really good. :happy2:
One suggestion: GTI/R32 shift knob. Feels (solid alloy) and looks stunning.
ED30 = Golf ball = GTI only :P
I love my golf ball knob, but the standard GTI knob felt even better in my hand.
The issue here is a nice gearknob, not what model it's from, if it fits in the 1,4 then it's usable :P Then ED30 gearknob lies better in the hand than the standard GTI gearknob IMO, but i do prefer the R gearknob, but this is also an option

Thats the one i would choose. :happy2:
I had to much confidence in my driving skills (very childish of me)... and in the Eschbach bend (minute 7:55 of the video below, at km 16, just before the observation post) the car oversteered a lot.
Rex, the pokerface !!
:drinking:
Thanks frenzy!
I am not sure what save you are talking about... Is it this one:I had to much confidence in my driving skills (very childish of me)... and in the Eschbach bend (minute 7:55 of the video below, at km 16, just before the observation post) the car oversteered a lot.
If it's not, could you please tell me the minute and second where it happens?
Please note that I swapped that first video with a better version. In the original film, there were some editing mistakes and some parts were run twice. The second video fixes these mistakes.
Yes, some lines are brave, other are just stupid. Please bear in mind that I have semislicks and that the track is very slippery. It's not about balls is about insanity . But with time I am learning to better control the car so I can be even crazier . I know it's just a matter of time before I have my first crash because it is, in my opinion, impossible to have many track days and no accident. I just hope that when it happens I'll be fine (along with everybody else from the car).
About the mph/kph... the camera has these. But when I export the films in order to put them on youtube this information cannot be exported. So I am the only one that can see the speed. Some runs are without speed (as is the last video) because I just don't plug the GPS receiver into the camera (you can see that I am trying to do this at the start of the last video). But I can't do that so for this run I just leave the GPS reciver unplugged.
One of my longer term plans is to buy a GoProHero and have it film the dashboard. This way you will see the RPM, the speed and this way the sound would also be much better.
Unfortunately my camera does not have a G readout.
Thanks for your comment!
.... I decided to take some things of my car so that I can be lighter.
For my 155 bhp car, weight is critical and with the spare wheel, some tools, back pack, etc
the car plus driver weight about 1400kg. So I decided to loose ~30 kg.
Seeing that the track was completely dry I also changed the rear shock stiffness from 6 to 7.
Now I was running with 8 front and 7 rear.
C'mon, let's see the Spa before the holidays !
I wonder if 30 kg less + one click stiffer on rear makes such a huge difference?
Its just MECCA. :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:
I am thinking of changing my track wheels and I would like to buy Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2 7.5 x 17 ET 45.
Does anybody know if this wheels fits the nqsbbk without the use of spacers? Please note than the wheel I want to buy is only 7,5 inches wide and 17 inches in diameter (opposed to the 8x18 ET45 rim used by many over here).

Great thread Rex :congrats:
the bruce First of all thank you for all your comments so far. I hope you won't stop. You are always asking the right questions.
I am selling the wheels (already sold them) because:
1. I need spacers to fit behind the nqsbbk.
2. Because I use spacers the wheel + spacer combination is around ~10.8 kg. I want to buy some lighter wheels.
I want to go for 7,5 x 17 ET 45 instead of 8 x 17 ET 50 because:
1. the new rims should be lighter because of the 0.5 inch less material (which is furthest from the wheel hub, so where it counts).
2. I have 8x17 ET 50 (BBS rims) with which I have no issues with brake clearance but I have rubbing on the Nordscheife. So, wider fenders are a must. Since I will buy some wider fenders I want to increase the front track and I also want the car to look better( it looks better with the lower offset rims)
:happy2:
Rex, now it's time to have a PerformanceBox and display some data, isn't it?
:happy2:Ha ha, doubt it...
Rex, now it's time to have a PerformanceBox and display some data, isn't it?
What the man said. Will do it myself in the future. Bruce, do you think a driftbox would be appropriate ?Well then... I'll just wait to try yours before buying mine .
:happy2:

NiiiicePatience my friend .
Show us more
Have a look at racelogic.co.uk .
A friend has a PerformanceBox, so I in the past I didn't need to buy one.
I never had the chance to try the Driftbox. Maybe 2012 when autocossing.
Guess there was a guy owning the Driftbox.
Rex, you're a smart guy. Let Fuscobal buy the box is most cost effective :signLOL:
You know I just meant to provide some nice data (speed, G-force etc.)
to your movies.
Cheap alternative:
use RaceChrono or similar on your phone and add an external 10 Hz bluetooth GPS
(Qstarz BTQ818). I'm no expert on this stuff of course.
This is a photo where you can see the extra camber (2 degrees 30 minutes):
Thanks Hurdy! :drinking:
Yes, our cars are distant relatives. Mine is the heavier and slower and older relative :drinking:. Honestly, I wish I had bought a twin charge engine instead of my single charge one (I only have the turbo). When buying the car I had the money to take a twin charge engine (about 500 pounds) but I thought the single charger was more reliable. Back than I didn't think I would visit the track this much . Our engines have the same engine block and only some other small parts in common (like Diverter Valve, some other valves, etc). But the turbo, injectors, clutch, transmission, etc are all different :sad1:.
So, a Polo GTI for your next car then?
So, a Polo GTI for your next car then? :wink:I would really like a Polo GTI, but the parts used on my Golf don't fit the Polo. So I will keep the Golf as my track car even it it is severely underpowered.
Is that even possible?
So, a Polo GTI for your next car then?
with the battery in the rear (from factory) :happy2: :happy2:
Thanks!
Thanks for the Vid Rex, I always find them entertaining :congrats:
The pics are awesome too :happy2:
Cheeky hint of Vw wheel bag there too lol
Very nice Rex, some sticky tyres to go with them for the summer, and you will have a good leap in performance. :jumpmove:
Cool, I told you they will clear the brakes easily !
Perfect fitment !! And looks great. :happy2:
Glad you decided for 8.o0" wide rims.
Hope you wont't get issues with fender clearence. Guess you have TT arms fitted
but I remember you wanted to go for wider fenders.
I am wanting to stay with 17" so this is interesting. What size tyre are you going for? I had thought about 235 40.
:notworthy: Thats brake/wheel combo is a winner! :happy2:
Hello - hope you had a good Xmas :xmassmiley: :santa:
Before you mount the wheels to the car could you do me a favour and measure the internal diameter of them please?
~I am thinking of running 330mm discs and wondered if they will fit in these 8x17"...
Thanks! :happy2:

And one small update: the Kerscher front fenders (25mm wider) have arrived !
Here is how they look:

Can't wait to get them fitted (it will only happen mid February).
Thanks for watching!
Nice you have enough space for wide wheels, Rex. :happy2:
Jake, guess you already had the Seibon fenders. Still unsatisfied?
I feel you bro :)Honestly, I can't wait till March to have the other stuff mounted. :pomppomp:
This is sooooo on my to do list, priority number 1 when it goes to the paintshop later this year, please share your experiences when fitting them Rex :drinking:Sure Jake. I am really curious so see how it all comes together.
Nice you have enough space for wide wheels, Rex. :happy2:Thanks :). I just wanted to get rid of the rubbing issue on the Nurburgring.
I haven't written here for a while so it's time for an update...
Pieces are coming in and I will struggle to have everything fitted (except the roll cage which has a 8-10 weeks estimated delivery time :sad1: and it has only been 4 weeks).
I will try to have an update here as soon as the pieces arrive and are fitted.
At the moment the car is in service for 2 reasons:
1. A woman failed to give way then changing the lanes (the bumper is scratched, and the front left wheel is a mess as you will see in the photos below)
2. Fitting the Kerscher wings.
The guys made a test and they fit very well. I want to see the finished product before saying anything else, but the future looks promising.

Jake, (danishmkvgti) I remember posting a similar image and there was a large gap between the carbon fender and the bumper. Here the lines are better and in my opinion close to perfect.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1237.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff469%2Fvladpanut%2Fsite_P2227622.jpg&hash=4cf35c75cf8f5e8e12efedad785b90270ec558fb)
The inner wheel arch has to be modified. I marked with a red line the area that has to be removed. The Kerscher inner fenders will be bolted to the remaining OEM inner Wheel arch.

Cheers!
Fenders are looking good so far, can't wait to see the finished article :happy2:Me too :happy2:.
Soooo looking forward to get my TT hub project over and get on with the project of painting the car and fitting these fenders. I love that they have taken into account that the bumper and fender needs to line up. Very very good news REX, same excellent fitment i saw on TEFF's last year at REVO HQ.I saw TEFF's car ant they were brilliant. I hope the end result will be that good on my car also. Since this is a mod you're interested in I will try to keep you posted and give you as much information I have.

:happy2::grin: Not at them moment. Hope not in the future also... :drinking:
Guess you don't miss the SRStec !!
Looking good!!!
Is that gloss black door trim a main dealer part?
Are these PPs and Quick-Fits? :happy2:
If you stay with the scratched seat let a detailer do some work.
What's the current weight of your car? About or below 1250 kgs without driver and fuel?
Take the seats to the detailer, or just repaint them. Until the courier will pay for them, long time will passThe supplier already made an order for a new seat so my wait will not be long (4-5 weeks :D ).
The seat will make a massive difference when on the limit, helps with the feel. Just a little observation though. You have fitted it on the wrong side. :P
Hmm, interesting...your sidemounts look completely different than mine ! You should be 18Kg lighter with the new seats ! :)You should buy these mounts also :happy2:. I think 18kg is too much.
Some great eye candy / weight loss there Rex :drool:Thanks! I haven't weighed them but I doubt they are 5kg/piece lighter than OEM.
Sunset fits !! :wink:Thanks :notworthy:.
I'd never thought a metallic red Golf would ever look so good. :happy2:
I suspect you may have outgrown the NQSBBK....they have however got you through many track days and no doubt improved your abilities considerably so they owe you nothingThanks Dave!
which is well done when you dont have an abundance of power....
10/10 bud
I'd guess Nordschleife isn't any issue to the brakes. Hungaroring is a completly different thing.Nurburgring is quite easy on the brakes.
nice vid, congrats for the lap times !!Thanks!
Great stuff as usual and I am sold on the 8x17 TDs, they sit perfectly - I will definintely be getting some at some time! Thanks! :drinking:
I think if the Mini wasnt there you would have wound some steering lock off and not had the oversteer moment...looked cool anyhow! :driver:
Keep up the good work! :congrats:
3 Days to go Rex
. The calendar?
@ rex:
If you still have the scratched seats, I suggest vinyl wrapping the backs.
I didn't like the high gloss black on my Recaro's so carbon vinyl wrapped them:

Yes, it is a poly insert.
No, I have the stock upper engine mounts because THS don't quite know what mounts I need for my 1.4 TSI engine and I decided not to take a chance and blow 200 GBP.
So I came to the conclusion that they don't know what mounts I need for my engine and went for the VWR ones instead...
I wanted to buy all 3 mounts from THS but because they did not inspire faith and they seemed not to know what they are doing, I gave up the thought and went for the VWR lower engine mount :happy2:. And I will keep the stock engine and gearbox upper mounts.
A little bit complicated so I understand why it is hard to understand :innocent:.
Devil's in the detail mate :happy2: looking really goodThank you!
Great stuff, you cant beat a cage and some Schroth harnesses + Recaros! :drinking:Thanks! :drinking:
I have no idea Stefan. I could not weigh it when I mounted it.
And to be honest it doesn't really matter. I just hope it will do it's job if it ever comes to it.
How much does the rollcage weight?
How do you clean the valves.....and keep them clean?!
Cylinder head off or a fuel additive?
Or use a oscilloscope (I hope this is the English word for it).
I talked to a mechanic and I will use this tool to see if there are deposits ore if I have any problems with the timing belt (mine is on chain so hopefully no problems here).
I made a more detailed search and it seems it is called oscilloscope. It is used on cars also:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oscilloscope
http://www.alibaba.com/showroom/automotive-diagnostic-oscilloscope.html
http://www.autoditex.com/Download/Oscilloscope_FAQ_en.pdf
By interpreting the data it will be able to tell me if there are any timing belt problems or deposits or many other issues.
Oh yes. Sorry I thought you meant they were using a borescope to look at your valves.
New lap record at Hungaroring?
@rex it's all over facebook! :signLOL:

Sad to hear you were ill and couldn't beat you previous record. 2:22:XX is still great for a 150 HP hatch. No worries there is enough time to beat the record.
Nice pics as always. :happy2:
Glad the mount has made a notable difference :smiley:Major difference Mike! Thanks!
Great photos :congrats: :congrats: :congrats: :congrats:Thanks RR!
Glad you had fun in spite of your cold and the heat. Fabulous red on your GT :happy2:
RR, first of all, my philosophy is that it doesn't matter if someone is a novice or not, he might be right. So your advice and any advice for that matter is welcomed. I am trying to improve my driving skills so if you or anybody else think I am doing something wrong please don't hesitate to share that information.
Than, about the lines, I think Acidutzul explained it very well. Late turn in is a very very good advice. I tend to have a sooner turn in because, as you can see on Acidutzul's videos I brake on entry also. If I was to have a very late turn in and brake in the same time the car would understeer heavily. So I think my lines are more efficient than the Caterham or GTR ones (those cars should be much, much faster than me).
Acidutzul's videos are great to see the lines from behind. The video I posted has 2 forward videos, the one behind the driver and the one next to the rear view mirror. The camera next to the rear view mirror (bottom right) is great to see the lines (at least for me).
No money no temptation my friend :P!
 You are right Mike. But due to the lack of finances a better engine is on my wish list not my mod list :innocent:.
The car is pretty much where I hoped it would be and I plan only minor changes (aka not expensive ones) this year.
:drinking:
....You are very wise, Rex - Don't let these hardcore modding addicts tempt you!I had this plan before... just after I bought the Bilstein B16 suspension and it was an epic fail (I can say I only started spending money after the suspension).
:innocent::grin:
....You are very wise, Rex - Don't let these hardcore modding addicts tempt you!
We all know sometimes it's easier spending money than stopping it, particularly when it comes to modding cars.
In Germany some say "less is more".I agree :happy2:.
....So true! I have stopped spending money on mods several times!:grin:  :happy2:
I agree that the normal position is at 9 o'clock and at 3 o'clock but styles differ from there on.
I had a rally driver training and rally drives have a different style than track drives. My hand movement over the steering wheel is more like this:
I know, mate. Rally drivers need way more steering angle.I agree completely.
Some say they even don't know to deal with GRIP.
Tommi Mäkinen is a world class driver. He varies steering position but never get's in hassle.
Surely hard to do it the same way. For track driving I'd still strongly recommend the classic
position.
Don't get me wrong - you have to find your own style - I just think it's much easier that way.
Also remember that smooth driving doesn't appear to be fast.Cheers mate! I know :happy2:
Fish
Took a look today with my mechanic in VW technical papers and it seems a difference of 3bar between cylinders is accepted !?!? That's quite weird so I read it 2 times to be sure !Yup... that is strange...
Any guidelines as to what pressure they should be running. I'm sure when I had mine tested they were 175-180psi = 12.4bar but it may be that mine run a higher pressure than yours?
That is what I thought Fuscobal :happy2: and why I asked if he had any guidelines as to what the pressure should be when testing.Unfortunately I found no guidelines to the absolute pressure. I only found the ratio value which is 10.1 for both our engines. I will visit my VW dealer to see his thoughts (he investigated a similar problem with a 170bhp twincharged 1.4 TSI engine with random missfire issues above 6500 RPM and found some deposits on the valves and a loose timing belt and I am curious to see his opinion. From that the owner of this car told me there might be a recall on the timing belt issue for some models...).
The cars that my friends came with can be seen in this video:
the bruce you may not be able to see this video because it seems to be blocked in Germany...
Thank you for the info! :notworthy:
Hurdy... if the compression ratio is the same why do you have 12 bar compression pressure?
sadly you're right - it's because of the music :wink:I wonder which song is not allowed in Germany? Michael Jackson - Speed Demon?
like all these cars, even more these mountains and much more driving them :happy2:
Just spotted this Rex :ashamed:That is strange... Once I have the engine back on I will redo the compression test to see the results...
My compression test came out at 170-175psi, which is just over 12 bar. i don't know why it was so high unless it included atmospheric pressure on top?? Even then it is still 1 bar over pressure!.
I wonder which song is not allowed in Germany? Michael Jackson - Speed Demon?
And the video with the Tranfagarasanul climb (the one pictured in Top Gear):
I just remember that the Twin has natrium filled outlet valves (which the 2.0 TFSI also has).
Natrium filling improves heat conduction. So the outlet valves run cooler.
VW saved the money for the 122 HP engine because it produces less heat (refer to SSP).
There's a second SSP432 related to the small 1.4 TSI by Audi.
By the way:
Interesting that the small 1.2 TSI are just 8 Valves. :chicken:
....Excellent! I enjoyed that very much :drinking: - Great road and great choice of music "I'll see you when you get there". Thanks! :happy2:
Did I already recommend this great book? Thanks for the tip! I now have two books on my "have to read" list. :happy2:

Nice splitter on the R has anybody any idea who makes it ?Sorry mate, I have no idea who makes it...
But back on topic stunning colour and well put together car mate
Ouch! Sounds to me like you've deliberately broken the engine so you can get a newer improved one!

....You shouldn't judge others by your own actions, John! :laugh:Ha ha ...
So Rex, what are you going to do?Well, honesty I have to spend the money on something different than the car so I have no idea...
Basically the oil is entering the combustion chamber either from the bottom or from the top. I will have some new cylinder seals and check the cylinder head once more to eliminate the problem.
I opened up the engine to eliminate a small missfire issue and ran into a lot of problems :sad1:. A new engine is starting to make sense (twincharge or 2.0 TFSI)...
Hopefully everything will be ok and I will be able to visit Nurburging and Hungaroring in October.
Any plans on replacing the twincharge on the Polo with a 2.5 TFSI one (and selling the twin charge)? :innocent:
Ouch !! Hope it'll end soon and not too costly.Thank you Holger! :drinking:
All the best for you, mate !! :happy2:
I haven't got the Polo GTI anymore Rex. :innocent:Sorry Hurdy, I seem to have missed the part where you traded in the Polo...
Traded it in and bought a low mileage Golf .:R DSG

Sorry Hurdy, I seem to have missed the part where you traded in the Polo...
Getting ED30/S3/Cupra engine and gearbox is simply a budget question. You are right, my friend!
A AXX or BWA would be much cheaper but regarding future plans a K04
engine would be the wisest decision.
I agree with The Bruce - get a K04 engine in that engine bay ASAP, you'll not regret it. :happy2:I am sure I won't. It's just that this car is my daily drive and I do not have much time to scout for the engine and to install it.
Sunset Red (6K6K) will stay up to date, mate. It's still available on the Mk.VII.I am really, really happy for the future owners. I absolutely love this color (I might be subjective though).
Fingers crossed!
I am really pissed of on my previous mechanic because he should have noticed these things when we took the engine apart. I would have been in the same situation but with 2500 EURO in my pocket ...
I really sympathise with you after you spent all the money. :confused:Thank you, Holger!
I still think looking for an accident GTI is the best solution in the long run.
A new 1.4 TSI will be just be a new one, but still not as reliable as a BWA
or even as a BYD. And probably not reliable enough for you.
What we can learn from your desolate issues: The smaller 1.4 TSI is no
proper engine to remap and no proper engine to track. Sorry to be that
honest, mate.
http://item.mobileweb.ebay.de/viewitem?itemId=150777929716&index=4&nav=SEARCH&nid=78402604795Thanks for the link, but I need a donor car (for the wiring, ECU, etc).
Rex really sorry to hear of your woes :sad1:Thank you!
Hope your up and running soon :happy2:
Gutted for you Rex. Really wanted the engine rebuild to work for you.Well, I still have to get an engine for this car in order to sell it.
I know you probably don't want to think about this, but what would the cost of moving to a GTI be over doing the 1.4 build?
I'm really gutted to hear this too - You really don't deserve this, Rex!Thank you very much for the encouragement RR! You have a good point but the cash flow is not sufficient at the moment. I wish I could keep this car as my daily drive, buy a GTI and transfer all the mods to the GTI. This is not the case so I have to find alternative solutions first of all to have the car running and then to be able to have about 4 trackdays per year.
However, always think positive and as some doors close, others open. So, if the 1.4 engine isn't suitable for what you enjoy doing, then go for a different one. You are now being presented with an opportunity which may be better in the longer term.
Id love to know how much it would be to stick a 2.0TFSI in mine as well tbh. I know the engines are cheap, so thats not an issue, but fitment wise and installation costs, who knows. Maybe then i could drive around in confidence knowing i had a reliable engine that wasnt likely to break lol.

I think the best way to get a 2.0 TFSI engine in a small car like yours is to by the A1 with the 2.0 265bhp (the price is, however, a bit high).
From what I read, the twincharge engine is 40kg heavier than the simple charge one (quite a big difference)....
Rex....Have I mentioned that your signature pic on the right is EPIC? :notworthy:Yes, I think you have  :notworthy:
I think your experience is outgrowing the 1.4 Vlad. If it's financially viable it would be great to see you in the realms of modified 2.0 Tfsi :driver:Yes, I would like to, but at the moment I don't have the finances (mostly due to the money already spent with this engine)...
Bloomin' 'eck!I know... I also find it hard to believe... I can't find the document where I read this but I will search some more.
That would be nearly 80kg weight difference by adding the 2.0 CDL block!!! That is a LOT! :surprised:
..hope to be there next time :)
The injectors, coils and sparks have been changed between each other and the missfire remains on cylinders 2 and 3. Compresion is ok.
... so now I have a 100% functional car :pomppomp:.
Thank you my friend! Yes, the Sunset red car is running again with a 2010 engine
I have to change the software because it stock at the moment. I will pay the REVO guys a visit in the following weeks. Seeing what happened to Jake, I am thinking not to do a dyno run this time with winter tires...
Yes, 640 RPM and 0.3l/h :happy2:.

I'm not sure it's down to the type of tyre. But they are 2 years old and can have had a damage, but 2 new tyres are now fitted :happy2:Thanks!
It's great you car is running again :congrats:
Great news mate, glad to hear your back in business :happy2: :driver: :driver:Thanks mate!
Great news my friend...it was about time !Yup... :driver:
^^^^Thank you RR! :notworthy:
Either way, I'm glad to hear that your car is back to 'normal' :happy2:
:congrats: :congrats: Perseverance paid off in full. Well done Rex :happy2:Thank you Hurdy! :notworthy:
Great my friend...it was about time. Now raise some dough for a holiday :)Not an easy task, I'm afraid... the swap (and prior swap stuff) was much more expensive than I thought...
...I want to make my car the best it can be, style and performance wise...I am not sure if I get another chance of modifying a car so much, so all the mods I want will go on this car.
2. I took a look at the under-tray which has some heat makes on them.
I found out that the exhaust is too close to the under tray and it is melting it (because the turbo o my 1.4 TSI is in front of the engine), but no real issues.
Great pictures, love the colour!Thank you very much!
Great photos Rex, a shame about the trackdays tho! :sad1:Thanks! I am using Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 (I had the Asymmetric 1 before).
What tyres do you prefer for everyday performance driving on 17"?
Great pictures my man. Shame to hear about the problem with the track day but I bet you can't wait for the chance to finally drive the car hard on the track in the near future. :driver:Thank you!
TT arms are great, I need some myself lol.
Hope to see more progress and pictures soon.
Hopefully bad news are gone for both of us and we will enjoy many beautiful track days from now on :) I will be replacing the clutch disc next week and by the weekend I should know if everything's well !I sure hope so my friend. Best of luck with the clutch!
Great stuff Vlad, as always :smiley:Thanks Mike! :driver:
The car looks very neutral Rex, I think the oversteer was due to the car taking off over the curb kind of like lift off oversteer as the weight transferred. You certainly know how to carry the speed through the corner. :happy2:Yup, it seems very neutral (at least according to my standards and my driving technique). The curb definitely had something to do with it. That bend is the trickiest one at Hungaroring (in my view) because on turn in there is a little peak that can make the car oversteer and because you have to ride the curb in order to be fast. Combined with very limited run of to the left, it is pretty much a bend where you do not want to lose control. I have seen quite a few accidents over there (from other videos or even live, with the car that was in front of me).
Nice video :happy2:Thanks! I like the current setup and I would change nothing about it!
Looks like a well set up car. And good save with the oversteer.
^^^^Thank you RR! I like that one the best because it is the clearest of the bunch!
I like the first shot best :happy2:
Great car colour.
Car looks awesome on track :happy2:Thank you! :notworthy:
Money shot's. Looking fantastic!Thanks! :notworthy:
Great shots Rex, but most importantly it's great to see you back on track and enjoying your car again after all the heartache :happy2:Thanks Jake! Yes, I agree with you and I am very happy that the car is working fine! :drinking:
Great shots Rex, but most importantly it's great to see you back on track and enjoying your car again after all the heartache :happy2:
Thank you very much for this invitation. :drinking:Holger i would love that but i'm on a plane to Vienna on the 15th so time will be to tight for me to get down to the ring and back in time for my plane :sad1:
I'll see if this manageable for me. Perhaps Jake is willing to come with.
Thank you!
I got the wiper delete from Gecleant (http://"http://www.gecleant.de/shop/glasstopfen-fuer-audi-vw-seat-skoda.html").
:drinking:
the brakes were really awesomeI bet they were! Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that they get "killed" more on Hungaro, since N-ring is a speed-track and allows better cooling.
Because of the hot weather, the engine would overheatMaybe go with fuscobal's approach? (hot climate rad)
Thanks! I've got the Wiechers Sport roll bars.
When looking for the cage, I found some UK companies that were selling roll bars at 1500 GBP and the Wiechers Sport that were 500 EURO.
I am not sure there is a difference in the design or material used but there sure is a difference in the cost!
Great post Vlad :happy2:Thanks Mike!
Hey mate,
Happy to see you keeping your promises and visiting the Ring yearly. :happy2:
Congrats for the times, I bet you and Stefan had a blast! I can't wait to meet with him and talk more about your trip.Quotethe brakes were really awesomeI bet they were! Apart from that, eagerly waiting for more posts & vids! :pomppomp:
Cheers!
found the pics mate looks goodGreat! I think I have some more photos here somewhere so if those are not enough please send me a PM and tell me what other pictures to send and your email address!
Excellent pics and a great B to G time Rex. :happy2:Thanks Hurdy!

:happy2:
Great video Rex. A mate of mine has just got back from a trip to the Ring. Although the car didn't due to engine failure. I love seeing people like him in that Porsche show how to do it by a lesser car. Thanks Matto! Yes, I had a lot of fun.
Top stuff and I'm sure you had fun :happy2:
Brilliant videos Rex......can't believe it's a 1.4!!Thanks Matt! Yup, most guys think I am nuts to do so much with a car equipped with a 1.4 engine. And they are probably right... I could use some more power but frankly, I am having lots of fun right now, so not worth the investment...
Great vid. You definitely have some skill beating much faster cars.Thank you!
Rex, my mate was in a black Supra with a private plate. Went with someone with a tuned Peugeot 205.Oh.... I will be on a lookout for any black Supras or 205 in my videos!
Can remember and i'm on the phone. Pretty hard to search. Why did you change the engine?
I'm changeing my 1.4tsi 180hp engine too. Only 30k km and at 170km/h 3 pistons (2nd, 3rd and 4th) were burned and destroyed :). VW sad that were a few problems with the producer of the pistons and now they changed him. Hope we will be ok from now one
Great update . Nice to read that the car is being enjoyed still!
Happy for you my friend and hopefully will be able to join you next time !
It's a shame that happened...damage is not that bad considering what I'm seeing on the video. I'm keeping my opinion that something's wrong with your car's balance (F/R weight ratio, geometry, B16 settings...) !
Sucks about the damage, I feel for you :sad1:
But the car looks beautiful, I'm sure it'll look even better with some fresh paint on that quarter :happy2:
Great pictures, love the cocked wheel in the second picture :grin:Thank you!
Show us the new paint!
Nice 3 wheel action there rex!!Thank you Rich!
Beautiful pics Rex :wink:Thank you, my friend!
Some great photos Rex. I definitely think the tripod one should be in next years calendar :happy2:Thank you Matto!
I'm certain its my favourite colour too...after shadow blue of course :P
Easily my favourite thread on here. Shame about the crash but you'll no next time.Thank you very much! :notworthy:
Some wicked tracks photos there!!!Thank you! :drinking:
Every time we take our cars on track we learn something it is a big part of why we enjoy driving. Sometimes those lessons are painful but we are still learning. :happy2:
I have a set of rules that I try my utmost not to break. I remind myself of these on the way to the track and every Time I strap my self in the car. My main rule is to remind myself constantly of my limitations and not forget where my talent runs out. It takes discipline as I know I could be a lot faster.
You need to stop being so tough on yourself, you only made a mistake of judgement. :drinking:
take the rear seats out :happy2:They are out :innocent:. But the roll bar/cage weighs more (and I also have something to cover the space that weighs about 5-10kg....
I wish my R was that light though Rex......even without me in it!
And, changing the topic, there are some things I have to do before the April/May Nurburgring trip:
1. change the J Hook rotors. These are 3 years old and have seen plenty of action (about 50 Nurburgring laps, about 7 Hungaroring trackdays and one Spa trackday). I will change them with identical rotors (supplied by DaveB)
2. make some adjustments to the brake air intakes. I found a better way to keep them from hitting the subframe bolt.
3. paint and mount the rear Votex spoiler
4. make sure the TD rim damaged in the Hungaroring crash is still ok for road/track use.
This is the one > http://www.dogcamsport.co.uk/magic-arm-super-clamp.html
Very lucky escape from an innocent unthinking moment there VladYup... really happy nothing bad happened...
This is the one > http://www.dogcamsport.co.uk/magic-arm-super-clamp.htmlReally really nice piece of equipment. You can really have any angle you want. I will edit and than share at least one video when using this mounts to see the difference.
Sh*****t!! Rex thank God your ok!! Defo wont forget to check your bolts in future!!I sure hope so!
I know how you felt. Same happened to me at the 'ring too. Nathan (Greeners) spotted it and told me not to move the Eddie. I pooped a little and I'm sure you did too! :scared:Yup, it was a shock! I needed some time to pull myself together :innocent:.
This is the one > http://www.dogcamsport.co.uk/magic-arm-super-clamp.html
In your experience, how well would that clamp to the rear passenger grab handle?
I use the hidden menu a lot for speed and coolant temperature...
Nice to see you are still reading this thread, Holger!
I think I will continue to do so for quite some time since I have no plan of selling it.
Nice to see you still report about your Golf, mate !!
Personally I think the MK6 climate control panel goes better with the RNS :happy2:Thanks for the feedback and for all your help regarding the mk6 climate control! :notworthy:
Mk6 climate is a great modThanks! :notworthy:
Can see this becoming a more popular interior mod. I like it.Yup... Easy swap for the 2006+ cars. More difficult for the rest...
What does it do extra as compared to the mk5 one ?+
It looks prettier. The settings display on the rns :smiley:Yup! :happy2:
Looking fantastic on the calendar for this month mate :happy2:Thank you, my friend! :notworthy:
love the colour of this thing and mk6 climate is a great mod ! ill be doing it next to complete my center consoleThanks!
That colour is awesome!
A small update...
As some of you might now by reading the Polar FIS+ vs E-MFA, I wanted to buy one of these products. But first, I found out I needed a new steering wheel controller. So I bought one...
New vs Old:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi1237.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff469%2Fvladpanut%2F20140910_094156_zpsf82667cc.jpg&hash=028f6a9599b3bb187abdfa3dd5c852a561c86b8e) (http://s1237.photobucket.com/user/vladpanut/media/20140910_094156_zpsf82667cc.jpg.html)
Unfortunately I had some problems coding it and after seeing that I need 350+ EURO to have the Polar FIS (or around 300 EURO to have the E-MFA) working I decided it was not worth the hassle. So I returned the steering wheel controller and forgot about the Polar FIS.
One more interesting thing I discovered a week ago, the K&N Cold Air Intake has NO effect on performance. I had a few runs with a friend, with a similar 1.4 TSI engine, with and without the K&N filter, and we were neck and neck. So, even if some logs show an increase of boost, I am afraid there are NO benefits...
But I will still use the K&N intake occasionally because it sounds awesome.
:drinking:
I never had any overheating issues with mine .
Don't forget I only have 160gbp, similar to you having 230bhp...
I wanted to have the Polar FIS installed but considering the costs and the benefits, it's just not worth it at the moment.
:drinking:
Indeed! :notworthy:
Interesting stuff!
Thanks Mike! I submitted 1,3 and 6.
I've seen some great photos but who knows, maybe I'll make it into 2015 calendar also :innocent:
:drinking:
P.S. Hope to see your car in the 2015 calendar also :happy2:.
Hope you can share the video soon. :drinking:Yup, me too!
....I hadn't seen these recent posts when shortlisting your pic for the 2015 calendar but Neil @scopes (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1567) and I chose #1 independently - You are definitely in! And so is Mike @Tfsi_Mike (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=293) on his third annual attempt! Thanks Robin! :drinking:
We select final pics on the merits of the photo, including print reproduction quality, and irrespective of whether a car has already been published in a previous forum calendar.
Brilliant Rex.....Love the display! What he said! :congrats:
Getting something like a PolarFIS is well worth the trouble/cost. I rarely look at my board computer data anymore. I leave it in the PolarFIS+ Adv. screen and scroll to different pages if I'm curious about other sensor data that I don't have available in my 1st page. I've reduced the pages to 4 after removing my DPF which I had a page dedicated to.
Good luck with the retrofit Vlad! :happy2:
I changed the Polar FIS advanced for the REVO SPS Pro this friday, and it's a great bit of kit.
Unlike the Polar FIS you are not able to change the name on top of the display, it's REVO and stays that way.
Another difference is the option of 10 screens compared to the 6 from Polar.
But you will love it. :happy2:
I'd be interested in a review of the Revo SPS Pro when you've had it up and running a little while. I'm thinking of getting a Revo map when I go stage two as I love the idea of switching maps easily and being able to tinker the settings myself for a bit of something to do. :happy2:
About the SPS PRO, I noticed something interesting: I can configure what the MF buttons do :happy2:. The MFSW for the mk5 doesn't give you the possibility to change the track. But, after I configured the buttons now I can change the track from the steering wheel :star:.That feature comes with the Polar FIS Adv.. It seems to me that you now basically have a Polar FIS Adv. with a Revo SPS built-in.
I think I should make another topic about the SPS PRO since there are a lot of things I want to share.
Yes, I've seen your video. Really glad is worked out in the end!
I would say no, I don't think I need another gearbox. I am planing on having an engine swap, midterm, or when this engine breaks. So, no need for another 1.4 TFSI gearbox.
Can't wait to have my Ed. 30 ready and try it on a track.
No probs.
What engine are you looking to put in?
I want to try Estoril (link (http://www.circuito-estoril.pt/en/)) next year since it's just about 30 km away from my home. The next best alternative is Portimão (link (http://www.autodromodoalgarve.com/Default.aspx?lng=en)) at 300 km away and the last good alternative is Braga (Circuito Vasco Sameiro: link (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Circuito_Vasco_Sameiro)) at 370 km. :party:Can't wait to have my Ed. 30 ready and try it on a track.
I bet you are! Were will the first track day be?
Not bad having a track 30km away from home :fighting:!I need to get a camera or some kind of support for my iphone to record a lap like you do.
I am sure you will enjoy the GTI on Estoril :drinking:
I need to get a camera or some kind of support for my iphone to record a lap like you do. :smiley:I have a GoPro with a roll bar mount. I think you will truggle to have the same angles.
I prefer the 1st picture of the 3. It's really good (as usual by the way :happy2:). I expect that you have one selected. :smiley:Well, I like 1 and 3. But I didn't get any answers from Robin or Neil so I hope it is still on :).
Looks awesome, Im assuming that wasnt your car in the above pic?No, it's from someone local to me. It's a mk7 Golf, I only have 2 mk5s.
http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,100626.15.html
^ just in case you haven't done it yet (or seen this thread)!
Yup MK7 GTD. I like this better than the GTI one because it has grey stitching (not red) :driver:For your car it's better suited. :happy2:
And another update: new track day tire.300 £ is still a lot of money, as a difference between a set of 4 tyres. :surprised:

I previously had Kumho V70 A and Dunlop Direzza 03G and I liked them both.
The Cup2 one should be a bit worse than the above but it was 300 GBP cheaper (per set) than the Dunlop so I could not pass the opportunity.
I think I will get the chance to test them in May, at Hungaroring. :drinking:
Wish I could join you for the next Hungaroring event but I have an engine to rebuild !Wish you could come, my friend! :drinking:
What a transformation :happy2: :congrats:Thank you! :notworthy:
Looks fantastic!
Very nice.Thanks! :drinking:
Congrats on the wedding and good luck with the new job and house :drinking:
Lots of stuff happening to you at the moment! Good luck with everything! :drinking:Thanks! :drinking:
Pity about the lost pictures but you still got some very nice. Will wait for the videos. :popcornsoda:
Very nice video. The track looks really good to have fun without problems. I'd love to try it. :grin:Yup, it is quite safe.
I've read this from start to finish and its an awesome thread!Thank you! :notworthy:
Credit to you sir! :happy2:
I've just mounted my Dunlop Direzza 03g for my first track day of 2016... !!! (been getting the car ready lol). The pressure is quite different from my setup to my friends setup (especially with heavier cars). I have very low pressure while they have much higher.
Do you recommend any pressures? I have gone 32psi front and back for now.
Very cool car mate! I saw it at Adancata on the prosolution gel review (https://www.petersacco.com/prosolution-gel-review-and-results) 24th of June and I have to say, it looks proper; very well maintained and very purposeful, for what it is, with the front camber, the seats and the rollbar. I can actually see my car in one of your photos:
That red is so nice, great ride you have there.

Unfortunately I didn't run into you that day, because I wanted to ask you a couple of things:
1. What camber settings do you use for the road? How is your tyre wear and would you say the TT arms make a big difference for turn in and lateral grip?
2. Is it too soon or can you tell what sort of mileage you get from the Cup 2's?
3. About the brake kit? Besides the stopping power and the much improved feedback, did you notice any increase in brake fade resistance?
I have a '05 GTI which I use as my daily driver but it sees occasional trips to Adancata and I have planned some Nordschleife action next year. Now it's pretty obvious to me that the front axle is not up to par with my demands: it's very rubbery, lacks feedback and it could certainly use more grip (both traction and lateral).
P.S.: I would've PM'ed you, but I just registered on the forum.
Great to see you back Vlad, car looks amazing as always, happy to see you still enjoying her :driver:
Vlad isn't the Bilstein hardness out of 10? Great video :)
And a few updates, ladies and gentlemen...
I've decided the next mod :pomppomp: : rear view camera... so next up, I'll buy a RCD 510 with video input, Rear Badge and Camera and the necessary cables. After that, all what remains with the interior is to have the black GTI head lining.
And one slightly bigger update, I've bought a Porsche Cayman - Black Edition :driver:
It's a one of the latest naturally aspirated Cayman, manufactured in June 2016. Even if the discount was not quite massive compared to a similarly equipped brand new Cayman, I really wanted the NA as opposed to the Turbo engine. The car has 11k miles which is not much but still it doesn't make it a new car  . The sound is truly awesome and, just like with the Golf, there is no plan of ever selling the car and I think I will enjoy the NA engine feeling much more than the actual power increase of the new 718 Cayman.
I will track the Porsche as well but I want to take it gradually and learn the car and not rush anything.
I already have the first mods in mind and I have to temper myself for the next few months, at least .
The Cayman is pretty much the ideal configuration for me (I've been waiting a long time to find these specs):
- Adaptive Dampers (Porsche Active Suspension Management)
- Sport Chrono Package - includes the adaptive engine mounts, the analog watch (useless if you as me) and rev matching
- Sport Exhaust
- Limited Slip Diff (Porsche Torque Vectoring)
- Automatic climate control & seated seats (you will not believe how many Caymans have the regular air conditioning and normal seats)
All the rest are nice to haves:
- Bi-Xenon
- Partial Leather Package
- 20 inch rims
- Sat Nav
etc
Thanks for watching!
:drinking:
It's very good to have a RVC! Good mod! I'd still reinforce the red and yellow cables that come out of the camera because they tend to break with wear. Try to make sure they don't bend when the RVC leaves its resting position. :smiley:Thanks for the tip and for the comment!
Great garage indeed! :notworthy:
That Porsche tough....can't wait to see it. :happy2::drinking:
Hi Rex,OMG, long time indeed!
Long time no see (4 years today if not mistaken, time really flies) but I’m delighted to see the old beauty getting better and better each year , you definitely gave a soul to that car :congrats:
Extremely jealous to the new addition also, especially finding that specific (mechanical) configuration always seemed virtually impossible to me and I’m bluffed  , it really is the perfect match for you and definitely a keeper. I hope we’ll have the chance to see it (here or elsewhere?) becoming without a doubt the 2.8 NA GT4 that Porsche never dared imagine could be done :happy2:
Don’t hesitate to give me a word when you find yourself on that 20,832 km stretch of asphalt you know, I’m still over there as soon as I get a chance so would be a pleasure to have a (non alcoholic hopefully :driver:) drink sometime.
Best regards
Such a fun built to watch, i started on page 1 but most of the older images dosen't work, Anywhere i can see all the pictures? :)Thank you for your kind words! I am really happy to see other appreciate the car and the work that's put into it (except me, of course)
Keep up the amazing work!
OMG, long time indeed!
Have you seen the last years' best lap? What do you think / where could I improve the most?
I will be an Nurburgring with the Porsche (and my wife) on July 21, 22 and maybe 23. If you can make it I would love to have a beer / drive, etc
New brakes!

Same as the old ones, but new :innocent:.

The current calipers started to make a strange sound - so I decided to have them changed and refurbished.
Next up - new 18 inch wheels... Which ones? Not yet sure... there are 3 candidates: BBS CH-R Silver, Speedline Course Silver, BBS VZ (ET 44 Pescara) in Anthracite.
I really can't explain the sound . But it is surely not normal... I had it checked and, 100%, it came from the front calipers. I guess I will know once I have the current calipers refurbished (next year).
I think the BBS CH-R are my current number one choice because I love the way they look, they are 0.5 inch wider and they have the proper offset (47)... The downside is the price...
The Speedline Course Tourini are a close second because they look nice, they should be very robust (with the racing pedigree), and are relatively cheap. The downside is the ET and the fact that, for some reason demon tweeks is not delivering them to Romania (not sure why, I've had more orders from them, so it shouldn't be a general issue. I have to contact them so find the reason).
Do you track your gt4? Just went to see the dealer last week for a GT4. How could I get in touch with you? Would lie to ask you some questions
