Title: Mk6 CW GTi
Post by: Raffe on May 12, 2012, 05:12:00 pm
Well the plan was to buy an ED30, but being impulsive I went and bought this instead and have to say I love it.

Sorry for crappy pics, will do some better ones once private plate has been fitted.

'10 Candy White GTi with 18" Monza's, Vienna heated leather, parking sensors front & rear and mdi connection, also had a rcd510 fitted by dealer for £100 which I thought was pretty reasonable and got to keep the original unit, so happy days.

Will of course be getting a Revo, Milltek and VWR CAI along with some H&R/Eibach springs, and really want the R LED rears but they can wait.

Loving it so far, sorry it's not a MK5 but I got carried away with the moment

Agree totally about the LED rear lights being needed  :happy2:

Definitely need the leds to smarten up the rear! What else you planning?

Agreed the rear LED's are a big improvement, but it will be going onto some VWR lowering springs first and then Revo Stage 1.

I also want to make it a little more of an experience to drive so a non resonated Milltek and I think I have settled on a VWR CAI too.

Having owned a number of fast Hondas it feels a bit tame and quiet at the moment but that can sorted

Nice mk6 prob still a bit quiet with those chosen mods.
Another mk6 I've driven had  itg induction kit and milltex non res with stage 1 and it was not much different to standard infact the exhaust seemed quieter but did sound nice but was quiet.

Oh that's a shame, any suggestions on what would liven it up a bit?

As a reference my last Honda was an '03 Civic Type-R Anniversary with Jackson Racing supercharger, Toda manifold and full de-catted system and open filter....it sounded immense, but the wife detested driving it and we sold it  :sad1:

Nicely considered photography with the architecture  :congrats:

Personally, in that last shot, I would crop out the distracting blue sign on left and then shave the bottom to constrain the pic's proportions. You could also crop the righthand side to lose the column if you wanted but it's less distracting.

Bit of an update with a few mods having happened....

As it was when we bought it in April earlier this year as a 2yo car with 9k miles, it was like brand new

Then the addition of the Eibach Sportline springs only, with the Bilstein B8 shocks to be added at a later date, sits much nicer and drives well;

Out with the old....

...and in with the Blueflame CBE...
Not the best pic but it gives a good idea of how it looks on the car, and sounds great so far.

With the Carbonio intake to accompany which again sounds great and fitted perfectly

Next on the list is Revo Stage 2 to accompany the 3" Downpipe and 100 Cel CAT, but will need to wait until Feb when it will be fitted and mapped accordingly as warranty expires in March.

In the meantime I am hoping for some R rear LED's to finish the rear end off.

Not sure what happened to the other pics, will try and sort.

Thanks for looking :happy2:

I am desperate to get the down pipe fitted and the car mapped to unlock the power but have other financial commitments prior to Christmas as most of us do, not too long to wait

Ok so I wasn't able to wait :ashamed:

3" Downpipe has been fitted along with Revo Stage 2 software.....all I can say is WOW :jumpmove:

Transformed the car, just need some dry weather now to explore it a little more.

Other than that I have also fitted some Heko Wind Deflectors and the obligatory .:R LED rear clusters, will get some better pics over the holiday period once cleaned, but here's a taster....

Not had a dyno run done yet, but asked Revo to send me an indicative graph from their demo vehicle which closely matches the spec of my car, quite a jump in power and will be interested how my car performs when on the rollers.

What engine/turbo does the mk6 gti have??
Title: Re: Mk6 CW GTi
Post by: Raffe on December 22, 2012, 08:58:51 pm
It's the new E888 engine with IHI turbo, different to the MK5.

Better mpg, lower emissions and responds better to tuning

Are you getting ~350lb/ft and ~300bhp from that little turbo!!?  That's mad.  I thought these sort of numbers were reserved for Ed.30's, nice car.

So basically only more torque over a stage1 car no more Bhp. In which case for the extra cost involved I think stage1 is as far as I will go.

Nope look at the graphs, as near as damn it 300bhp at stage 2 which is at least another 25-30 bhp, with Kenny's car achieving these figures with the exhaust and intake I bought from him

Dry roads today has enabled me to have a bit of a play, power is absolutely relentless from 3k rpm

Frankly I'm shocked a Stage 1 TSI can achieve 345lb/ft of torque from that small turbo... iirc it's smaller than the K03... it must be more on the TSI motor over the FSI motor than the turbo itself - what sort of boost you running?

Dyno dynamic is the ones thats normally quite acurate iirc?

 :surprised:

To be fair dyno graphs need to be taken with a pinch of salt as the numbers can be tweaked to read the numbers you want to see, and by no means am I insisting my car has 'X' power figure just trying to get a feel for what's possible.

I am hoping to have a rolling road session ASAP and would love to come along to one with modded MK5's running as same day and conditions would give a realistic comparison.

All I do know is the car is absolutely brutal, and surprisingly feels quicker than my old EP3 Civic Type-R which was running around 285bhp with a Jackson Racing supercharger and I would guess around 150-200kgs lighter.

What I have learnt is that VAG turbo tuning unleashes a fair few additional horsepower for very little cash compared to the Honda scene, it was wallet busting unless you went forced induction.....which didn't come cheap either
Title: Re: Mk6 CW GTi
Post by: zerolag on December 24, 2012, 10:17:32 am
Numbers aside, what I don't like about the smaller turbos, is there inability to hold the boost creating spikey torque maps... on both mk5/mk6; where as the K04 holds boost over more of the rev range... the Aero Saabs were like this too.  This comes down to larger turbos I guess.  It does make them slightly more laggy to spool.

Not dissin' at all mate, think your car is awesome.

Just don't get these TSI power figures at all; 345 lb/ft for a Stage 1 k03 (or smaller).

Anyway, I only just realised this is your build thread, apols! That's what you get for coasting the recent posts feed... :happy2:

345 does seem a little high, my tsi made 306 stage 1 and 330 on stage 2. The ihi turbo may be smaller, but its more efficient
