Title: Car Graveyard and Urban Exploration
Post by: matmk5 on April 18, 2013, 07:41:24 pm
Hi all,

Im fairley new to the site.. picked up my 06 plate GTi a few weeks ago and loved it so far... its gone back to the dealer for two days to have the cam chain replaced which will hopefully sort the TDi sound on tick over :D

Anyway, great to see a photography section, I'm into Urbex.. exploring abandoned old buildings and the like, my homepage with all my explores on is www.derpage.com and just thought I would share a few snaps

This was an old saw mill I stumbled upon in Lincs and found a load of old cars rotting away in collapsing barns!  :scared:

https://derpage.com/2016/11/01/walkers-classic-car-graveyard/

Will get some of the new GTi up when I get her back tomorrow and have given her a good polish... hopefuly sounding more big red Ferrari than big red tractor haha

Thanks very much all.... access to the places is ususaly just comedy climbing.  I never create ways in so if there isnt an open one already I just toddle off somewhere else :-)

great photos, how spooky is that stairwell!!!!

Probably spookiest places Ive found myself were this old Catholic Orphanage kids TB hospital

I'm really intruiged mate, I love exploring and looking round these places, I can start with these places I know that you've found, do you need special permission to go there, or do you sort of break in? Or are they just open access but forgotten about and abandoned? And finally is there a database or something where I can look for places like this in my local area?

Love the photos

Thanks mate... I generally just trawl Google maps looking for stuff, living in the Midlands most stuff is within reach.  There's quite a few websites which are good for a heads up on locations too, local authority listed buildings sites and stuff like that.

Never break into anywhere, providing you cause no damage and take nothing there's no offense as trespass is a civil matter in the UK, worse that can happen is your asked to leave.  As soon as you damage or take anything it becomes a criminal matter so steer well clear of that, don't even carry anything that could be considered going equipped... all I take is camera and a torch.  There's almost always an open access of some sort, usually involves climbing or going down into a cellar lol.. but that's all part of the fun.

You will be amazed how many places exist within a few miles of you once you start looking :D

Lovely shots.

There's a really cool place near me on the border of fleet and farnborough called pyestock. Sadly there in the process of demolition at the moment to make way for a Tesco distribution centre

Anyone interested in engineering/ aircraft would love it, google pyestock and see the dailymail's recent write up about it, there's some cracking shots of all the testing equipment.

Great photos. Reminds me of some time ago when I was searching for photos of the hospital I was born in and found a similar set. The graffiti still winds me up, even though these buildings were demolished nearly 10 years ago now...

I cant see any photos either. I went to a few places when I was younger. An old RAF base, with old tanks left there. The best, or worst, was the Severalls asylum. Really spooky, especially the children ward. Had to climb along a tree branch and then drop down over the double fence. Then the best way to get out when you're done was to get caught by the security guard! One of the girls I went with said that once she and her friend went late, went upstairs but then couldnt find their way back downstairs as only a few staircases remaining and couldn’t get down until gone midnight – worse place to be trapped! Holes in the floors going down a few stories never mind the creepiness of it all. I have some pictures somewhere I will try to upload later!

The car graveyard pics are on my urbex photography site though if you want a look... second row of icons down:

Returned to the fold (Sold my MK5 GTi last October after 4 happy years... couldn't stand the boredom of Ford Focus ownership and PX'd it for a MK6 GTi last week) so will get some pics up... great to be back  :happy2:
