This is a great mod for the money. The car feels like it's on rails for the the first few weeks after fitting. :happy2:
Yep! it's like the missus doing the dishes. You think this is great, at first. A few weeks later she is still doing them, but you are moaning about the noise coming from the kitchen when top gear is on.:congrats: Love the analogy
Another little mod is on its way... should get it tomorrow touch wood!

Me neither Lee... but once you've got a car thats goes a bit you notice its deficiencies a lot quicker, so just a few sensible mods... I've no interest in being scene and low and spaced out to the max.
Once the rear arb goes on that will be me done i think! (famous last words )

You will only stop once you can wheel spin in third in the dry, or you realise your girl friend left last year. :rolleye:
The issue was with the mounting grommits for the mount on the hub!
Not my car
The gromit for one side is fine... but the other side is the wrong design (must have bee put together incorrectly) it just wont fit... so its just cable tied on and im keeping my eye on it!
The hoses are fine and do not leak so i was happy to just have them checked and re-bled!

You'll love how it drives after a remap mate :driver:
I now need a new clutch though, slippy slippy in 4th and above when on full boost :fighting:

Yeah cant wait, because to be honest even as it is it still takes me by surprise. Its one of the reasons I went for the DSG in the first place, just have to touch wood that it doesnt eat itself!
When I ran my ED30 at JKM for the first time ever, it got 232bhp as well. The second time it made 226bhp.
Yeah no issues which was a relief! I would have been horrified if it had ran 210 or something a bit low!
What did you pay for your map PM if you prefer.
Rich
Someone took at look at my graph and said, "pretty big flat spot in it" pfft... it would eat his 1.8T for breakfast! :stupid:

Coincidentally I was just looking at your graph in the RR graph thread and thinking how very similar they are (no surprise is guess)... spooky!

How did you guess?
Thanks for that hedge, that firms it up for me that (a) my car is running perfectly and (b) a cat back exhaust just empties your wallet!
There isnt a flat spot, the guys a twonk. :signLOL:

They will be quieter just because of the increased tread block height and possibly grippier but you did say you had Falken F452's so then definitely grippier.
Ive gone old school and removed my carbonio intake and put the stock intake back on.
Its an ITG one Robin.
I wanted an ITG panel filter then read a big thread on oem panel filters/mafs/oil/replacements and have been put off, so would you recommend?

....One which has a name which sounds like 'green cotton'. Saint Steve has one I think and JKM recommend it too?
To be honest... i doubt there is much difference between any of the filters including OEM.
To be honest... i doubt there is much difference between any of the filters including OEM.
If your looking at any cold air intake system, you will need to update the fuel pump aswell, or you will be into fuel starvation issues/flat spots under full throttle. Cotton element filter avoids this, slightly improves air flow and increases throttle responsiveness slightly, but obviously doesn't give you a 10-15bhp gain which a CAI system would.
Really does depends on how deep your pockets are chap.
Really steve? I thought that you could; for example, run an ITG and down pipe with stage 2 software without upgrading the fuel pump?depends on the map your running, I wouldn't run Revo stage 2 on the ed30 without an uprating the fuel pump.

Your getting all confused MR Saint. Why would you not run Revo without a pump.

Cheers Robin, glad someone knows what I'm trying to recommend.
it would work TC, but as what I've been told along with lots of people that run certain rolling road days, it's wise to up rate the fuel pump when running Revo 2 on the k04. Not sure what boost request is on ko3 as a comparison on the same named map on the GTi variant.
What time is it... might go and wash my car to annoy Steve! :P

Why is it wise when unlike poofin you have the ability to adjust the boost, timing and fueling for you own car with Revo
Took my DV out this afternoon and its in looks in good condition, i couldn't see any rips in the orange diaphragm. Is there any point in swapping it out for the revision D?

Rear Autotech ARB went on this afternoon. At first i wasnt sure it had done anything at all... but a few highspeed corners threw that out of the window!

Thats the one!
Yeah it will be an R-tech map, they've done quite a few Edition 30s. Whilst I'm sure that REVO are very good and certainly are the lions share on here, in my opinion they are way over priced at nearly 600 quid!
I was down at R-tech the other day Rich.
Nick knows his beans!!!! I'm taking my car for mapping down there from now on.
ps. Want to buy me a hpfp and we can go together then?

Really not good. Im thinking of getting the 312mm put back on because I had ZERO problems with them! :sad1:
:sad1:
Ok... so within the space of a few months!
Brakes start to make cracking noise... sounds crap... its not right... they shouldnt make that noise! :sad1:
Rear ARB drop links... sound like shi*te... every speed bump make me sick to the core! :sad1:

....Are you sure it's the drop links and not the ARB bushes? Could be a simple matter of greasing.
Hurdy... those look like the hoops for the front ARB, due to the nut on top.
Well... i bought some BSH drop links with ball joints so if it still creaks after fitting those i'm gonna push it into the thames! :signLOL:
Well... i bought some BSH drop links with ball joints.
two bulbs in the front, 3 in the back

Rich, would it not be worth trying a set of OEM Cupra pad clips? Only circa £10 from Dave @ Sere Motors..
it might be worth putting some grease in the ball joints on the BSH links to be fair rich as it may have dried out a little

Bit late now but as for the front lights, MY06 and before had 3 bulbs one for each passenger and general one, after it was dropped to just two one for each passenger.
Sorry to hear about your brake Rich how did you manage to keep up with the Clio's?

Ahh thanks for clearing that one up... i was sure my old 2005 car had 3 bulbs! :signLOL:
Ive got over the caliper coat cracking now, they work and thats the main thing (even though they really shouldnt have cracked at all :fighting: )
Keeping up with the clios was tough, they are just so much more agile (maybe slightly bigger gonads too)... but the advantage of having a turbo is apparent when on the straights. Horses for courses!
Beddie.. i might adjust the rear ARB to stiff when i'm back at home next, see how it effects things. :happy2:
Funny comment from one of the guys when i had my car on idle to let the turbo cool down "Turn you car off.... it sounds like a diesel" :signLOL:
Ive got a cheeky one on mine now too. Tints dull it down though!
Thats rather bright for tints!
You should email that Aston showroom interior pic to them and ask if they'd like you to take some more (for money so you can then afford some big brakes). It has great atmosphere.
The fact is that OEM GTI brakes are good but not great and you sound as if you've been driving more enthusiastically or perhaps are fresher to the car.
Im really happy with how the car handles even though Ive done very little to it. Much better than what is was when I bought it, although lowering it a touch would improve body roll.
He's also got a rear Autotech ARB.
Shoulda, woulda, coulda!

Steve, I reckon it is the normal fix, demonstrated by post 14 here - http://www.golfmkv.com/forums/showthread.php?p=841910
I did not have lolly sticks - used a piece of paper folded multiple times - did the trick :happy2: I think the issue is down to thermal expansion and plastics having different rates at different temps. Why do you need a stage 2 Edition 30 for the trips to the shops?
Now now girls.
Revo £470
Or
Bulfin £300
Now now girls.
Revo £470
Or
Bulfin £300
I'm sure the Revo boys will tell you otherwise Rich and i would agree with them if you plan on going 2+ but otherwise its Bluefin for me :happy2:
Despite all the Bluefin hate on here my 'ikkle stage 1 Tuna mobile has been 100% spot on for 50K and 2nd fastest in class at Inters for 2 years running with many a Revo behind...
Isn't he up north though?
Im in Norfolk next week as there is a revo dealer very close!
Too late.... :driver:

Which did you go for?

Busted. :laugh:B6 T6 F9.

Rapid... Goes through the DSG box so quickly. I thought as I have had the car a year it deserved a present.
New problem. Front end traction.... I feel like I've opened a very large car of worms. :signLOL:
New problem. Front end traction.... I feel like I've opened a very large car of worms. :signLOL:
It took you a year to get a remap and about 2 days to realise you playing a whole new ball game now :signLOL:
Just remember Rich. Power is nothing without control.
Or am I just being a big girls blouse? :signLOL:
I've also noticed that the DSG box changes down less when you accelerate, which is quite deceptive in terms of how the car gains speed.
Just remember Rich. Power is nothing without control.
So true.... I honestly don't know how anyone running stage 2 or 2+ manages to keep it in check (on stock chassis and brakes). Personally, stage one feels like it's on the edge of what the chassis can take.
Or am I just being a big girls blouse? :signLOL:

Livin lifeto the Maxon borrowed time on my stock brakes :driver: :P

I don't want to piss on your parade, Rich, but the OEM speedo is not accurate or reliable. You need the sort of equipment which Hurdy had in his Ed30 for accurate performance data.
Either way, your car is now very much faster and more fun. :happy2: :pomppomp: :jumpmove:
Milltek? Brakes? Suspension?
A tentative start, didn't want to leave 1/2 my Clutch behind me on the road :signLOL:
...cos I was on crappy 95.
Full tank of vpower now.
.
Seriously, Rich - Most remaps are written for higher RON such as V-Power and not for 95 - You ain't doing your car any favours while you run 95. The only excuse is in emergency because you didn't plan your journey's fuel stops properly.

I didn't have the map when I filled up with 95 dad..... :signLOL:
Now all you need is an exhaust, coilovers, intake..... Etc.
I'm sure it's an easy fix, it might be worth unplugging the battery ?
BBK, PSS10, TT bottom arms, WALK, Miltek TBE, decent tyres and you will smile again

Didnt alot of people at Inters have the very same issue after their remap with Revo aswell?
Didnt alot of people at Inters have the very same issue after their remap with Revo aswell?
Correct... i think that was mostly Stage 2 software.
I can't say I'm happy to be honest, but Carl at revo has assured me that "[we] will look after you"
When are you booked in at Revo ?
You can take my car up the road on Wednesday if you like see what a TBE exhaust n K&N filter do with similar settings and Revo stage 2

Thanks for the offer Carrera, but I'm working in Cardiff Tuesday-sat. :drinking:
I've been in a blufin stage 2 car and that was very quick, I bet revo is quicker though..... :popcornsoda:
Not always rich, power is nothing without traction

Or good brakes. :popcornsoda:
Whats the biggest difference youve noticed with the dsg remap Rich?
Rang VW to see how much an oil change would be.... £129 :scared:
So i drove to VW to pick up an oil filter, sump plug and 5L of oil... grand total of £36. My local garage will change the oil for £40. £50 saving cannot be sniffed at :happy2:
Rich
The ham fisted knob head who changed my oil has snapped the engine cover.
Note to self - OEM HPFP 06F 127 025 K £148 + VAT
Not too bad I don't suppose.
Rich
I have to ask why the cover was removed if you were just having an oil change?
Note to self - OEM HPFP 06F 127 025 K £148 + VAT
Not too bad I don't suppose.
Rich
Looking for the oil filter no doubt.....
and the DSG software seems good too, not sure it's worth the 250+ price tag though, but I wasn't gonna turn it down. (I have lost the DSG fart in manual mode, presumably due to the shorter shift duration)
I also took an executive decision to bin the ITG panel filter because it was covered in tar and filthy, so I'm back on paper filters from now on (unless I get an intake)
INTAKE!!!!
TWINTAKE!!!!
don't do it Rich
I had a little fun with a Nissan 350z today. I had 4 people in the car and he was just nosing ahead. Not bad for a measly 2.0 with a hairdryer stuck on it.get them on a diet.... A 370z couldn't catch me up my drive the other week :signLOL:

Good job i looked under the bonnet to check it all. :fighting: :fighting: :fighting: :fighting: :fighting:
I point blank demanded a new engine cover, so one has been ordered. I cannot believe it... utter RAGE at the mechanic who when i confronted him about it, just didn't seem to give 2 poo poos that he had snapped it "yeah, its really hard to get off" :fighting: :fighting: :fighting: :fighting: RAGE!
Rich
A good friend of mine has a 350z. I was able to pull on him a fair bit from about 20 to 70 on Thursday.
I imagine it will be your heavy ass passengers Rich.
My mates 350z would nose ahead. Well it does have a couple of turbos and 500 ponies.

Wonder what it would have been like after 70? Oh well guess we will never know!!
Do these cars go over 170??
Tomorrow is gonna hurt, both the mind an the wallet.
I'm gonna need 4 new tyres soon too... The fronts have taken an absolute battering since the remap. :-)
Now do I go Goodyear F1 v1, or F1 v2??
I didn't like the tartan to start with, but it's a grower!! Its a great place to be apart from the rattles!
....but it's a grower!! Its a great place to be
It could be a result of old plugs.
289bhp and 296ftlbs
Misfire on cylinder 3 stored in the ECU :-/
where's the graph???
I wouldn't worry about it Rich but as others have said.
:worthless:
where's the graph???
Nik is gonna post one when he has time. If not I'll take a photo of it tomorrow. :-)
the lines don't cross at 5252rpm... I suppose that just because they are on separate scales?Yup. Did a quick'n'dirty graph in excel and they cross just over the 5000rpm mark. So had they been on the same scale (like JKM do), you'd have been able to see them crossing over at the correct point.
If your ever passing by I will plug vcds inyou. :happy2:
Full of shi# probably!!! LOL
Nik, I should have thought, I could have swung by you today. Thanks for the offer mate. :-)
I'm 99% sure it's misfire, cos im on 4.5 year old spark plugs.
I was told plugs were 60k? (admittedly by VW garage)

Booked in with Simon at VAGCO on Tuesday for a 40K service, oil, filters (except air filter) and SPARK PLUGS!! ;-)
Hopefully that should fix this hesitation/misfire issue.
(BDMalex... Sorry I couldn't book in with you in dec. I'm all over the place at the moment so just getting it done when I can cram it it)
Rich
Well... I don't know... Works always up in the air/random/here there and everywhere. Sorry I know I did semi-promise you the work. :-(
I'll be in touch in the new year because I want me geo. changing :-)
Mike when are you back in the UK... Let's try and hook up at BDM at the same time. :-)
Where those mats from Rich?
They're OEM ED30 mats.

Ugh rich I'm gonna go and take a baby wipe to my steering wheel!

OEM ones mike... came with the car! :happy2:
Had the original ones a couple of times and rate them, look forward to your thoughts on the new ones!

Mandy, this stuff is good, but id say its more likely to last 3 months. Its a good product though, dead easy to put on a remove... and water sheets of it very nicely. :happy2:
Just been out for a country drive, no hesitation or REVO light. :jumping:
From you a good few months ago :)
Rather Lush is this :happy2:
Luckily I've just had mine serviced. It's running sweet as a nut now.
I'm thinking of performing a DSG reset when I get chance, 1st gear seems to have got a bit jerky.
Rich it was me that Keendean boought the Neuspeed from.....(Dean your mind is shot pal lol) :fighting:
I'm going to head up to REVO soon and get the linear throttle map put on. I'll report back.

nicking my map ideas!!!!! Hope all goes well it should transform your car.
IronX is savage stuff.
Wait until you use it on your paint it will take off contaminents you'd never dream of seeing, or hope to get with a clay bar.
As above with the Tardis, agitation is key.
Nice work.
It means that where ever you position the throttle that's exactly what you get. 25% throttle and you get 25% as opposed to about 40% as it seems with the standard revo throttle map.
Took a little trip up to REVO today to get this put on. First impressions are that it makes the car much more controllable. The first 50% of the throttle travel is now much less sensitive, and makes depressing the accelerator a much more progressive experience.
Will give more feedback once I've driven it a bit more.
Rich
How long has this new map been out ?
So how do I no which map iv got? I had my car mapped about a month ago at revo (Stage one )
Yeah, most decent mapping companies do it too. I know that Nick @ R-tech is a big fan of linear throttle maps.... *ahem*#
Unfortunately yes, 50+VAT
But then again I did get DSG software FOC, so all in all I'm still happy customer. :happy2:

did you get the dsg remap for free???
The VAG ecu calibrators have to set the pedal load to give the "feeling" of power, lot of power with little driver input. Once mapped the KFPED maps become exaggerated and can end up giving the feeling of an on off switch.
An interesting read, i am on revo stage two, did you have to pay extra for this? Also did they mention if any revo dealer can install the map?
Got one in the garage you could of had Rich. :wink:PM'd
Revision G ?
Just saw your car in Volkswagon Magazine while I was sat IN Kings Lynn VW awaiting my car being fixed :happy2:
A couple of ex-mates decided it would be hilarious to draw on my car last night. So washed it this morning to be greeted with a lovely swastika scratch mark on my boot.
Just bagged a 600mile old revision G DV... 12quid! :-)

I'm getting them professionally sticker bombed.
Good job you mentioned that... I'll double check. If not I'll get the dremel out and thin out the spokes.

Just stripped my rear ARB bushes for the 2nd time :fighting: , was getting an annoying squeak again. All cleaned and greased back up without totally removing the bar or either rear wheels. :star:
Well the squeak wasn't the ARB... :sad1: No idea where its coming from.
Tyres are gripping well now, they are superb in these damp conditions. :driver:
I had some of that though used the G3 kit. Very easy to use too much of the polish. Doing the windscreen was a pig but if you manage two layers then excellent. Worthwhile on the side windows but found it useless on the rear windows.
You reckon to rainX on the rear Rich?

I have put it on the rear and its a waste to be honest mike, the window still gets dirty due to the flat back.
Why?

Having washed my cars without a hose pipe for the last 3 years, using a hose pipe today on my drive was a bit of a novelty. :signLOL:
The Gtechniq wheel sealant is good, but its not up to repelling the fallout from drilled brake discs.
Rich
My calipers are bollocksed... i dont bother cleaning thatm specifically anymore! Ideally i want to get rid of them, but im lacking on funds at present.

Booked in at VAGCO for fuel pump follower and to see what simon makes of this rattle of part throttle.
Mine had even less ware when I changed mine mate :happy2:
Does it remove the gtechniq?
I need new rear discs and pads too. Ill probably go with OEM discs and get some of those Hawk pads which beddie got not long back.
Sere?
You guys mean SERE here in Belfast? Dave's the guy there to speak to. Did me a favour after tfsi mike's recommendation.
I can't believe you have only just got one of these Rich, one of the first mods I did after stage 1, does make a difference, especially on the diesesal!!

Vented rear discs? You'll find that when coupled with bigger brakes on the front, your car will feel very well planted and balanced under heavy braking. Of course all will depend on road surface and tyres. Enjoy! :happy2:
New 286mm rear discs bought and waiting on some Brembo HP pads, all to go on on thursday when it gets a service at AKS. :happy2:

Ohhhh and the icing on the cake today.
Drove Doncaster-Manchester... It took ages, loads of traffic, it took me twice as long as it should do.
ANOTHER dent on my bonnet... This time much worse, it's right near the front edge, looks like I hit a rock that was kicked up.
Seriously, this car can GTFO!
Still on the hunt for a bonnet.

Nice, what revs were you launching at? Were you dumping the clutch or easing it in?
Did a few different ways. Either no launch control at all and just ease the power in first gear. Or very low RPM launch, maybe 200RPM.
I did a full power launch once and it just span up and got horrendous wheel hop, so knocked that on the head. :signLOL:
Great pic Rich :happy2:

Hi Rich, I started to trawl through the 74 pages put quite frankly couldn't be arsed although your Ed30 is very nice and the content is good :signLOL:
Am I right in thinking you are running standard springs with WALK and a rear Anti Roll Bar?
YES
I have just put my standard springs back on and obviously its now a tad high!
If your car is on a flat how big is the gap from arch to top of tyre? 50mm? I just want to make sure that the springs which were given to me when I bought the car are definitely the right ones.
No idea :signLOL:
I am now running standard springs, walk and the PolyBushes.
I can honestly say its more comfortable but no noticeable difference in handling compared to the Eibach.
Why did you decide to run the standard height? Comfort? I'd say it was a wise choice.
Because I don't want to compromise the ride quality, I do too many miles in it to have me kidneys pulverised every journey. :happy2:
Thanks mate and I am only joking about the not being arsed!

Just washed her. Used Auto Finesse Revive on all the external plastics and its really good, the rear wiper arm for instance looks like its brand new! :happy2:............use the same on mine. One of the best out there.
Use Megs Endurance on the tyres, 2 coats. It seems to repel water well, which obviously means that in turn they will get less dirty.

Is there a particular reason for changing the PCV and for resetting your DSG?
^^^^
Is your DSG remapped, Rich? Mine was a bit 'lumpy' and my Revo DSG remap sorted that.
Is linear map available on Stage 1?? Thought it was Stage 2 and beyond only??

I saw sombody else recommend those a bit ago, are they the fairly expensive ones? Or a variant of? Where do they sit in the heat index (i.e. 7's 8's)

I would get it looked at mate.. you cannot be too carful with these boxes
Is the linear map a freebie or is there a charge? I'm thinking it should help the mpg with better throttle modulation
How comes you didn't go for a MK6 one? I'm not a fan of it but most people would have taken this opportunity to upgrade.

I would have to upgrade to the RNS510 too...
Only just realised that I've have my car just over 2 years now. I was only going to keep it a year and then get another diesel... but I cant part with it.... its too much fun!
In those 2 years it has never broken down (with the exception of a flat tyre, and a slight misfire due to old plugs)...... and i see no real reason to part with it, other than stupid petrol costs.
Another 2 years maybe?? :driver:
It's what would you replace it with... What gives you the practicality, fuel consumption for the performance, style, agility for the same money?
Another 2 years maybe?? :driver:
Ditto here... Won't give mine up for all the tea in china ..

Hell yeah! 4 years into mine now :driver:
Means its all perfect. 10% either way is the limit.
Sorry but what were your fuel trim values??
Yep... :happy2:

Exactly.... theres not many out there that can do what it does for the same cost, which to me is nothing as the car was bought outright 2 years ago.
Id swap it for a 335d but they are a bit pricey at the moment and insurance on them is a killer!

Before -0.6 .... 0.4
After -1.8 .... 1.6
No idea what that indicated though.
Not sure if the polar FIS reads that data or not. I got the above from vcds obviously :-)

Need a headrest for the mount Rich?
Ah yes - a Magic Arm is a piece of kit I use literally daily. How did we manage without them?!
Is the intake a big improvement do you think? I'm considering the stage 1 remap after Xmas ( and after my tax bill) Is the new intake a definite requirement if you go this route?

Its on the list of things to do before I die!! :signLOL:
Someone sent me this the other day:-
Dan was a single guy living at home with his father and working in the family business.
When he found out he was going to inherit a fortune when his sickly father died,he decided he needed to find a wife with whom to share his fortune.
One evening, at an investment meeting, he spotted the most beautiful woman he had ever seen.
Her natural beauty took his breath away."I may look like just an ordinary guy," he said to her,"But in just a few years my father will die and I will inherit $200 million"."
Impressed, the woman asked for his business card and three weeks later, she became his stepmother.
Women are so much better at financial planning than men. :P

Thanks mate... so long as it works and doesn't damage your headrest poles then it doesn't matter what it looks like.
MOT on monday/today 9:50am.... fingers crossed.
Its like the Citroen AX GT's... ther body kits hide rotten cills 90% of the time... They put it to cover their backs...
I would rather have an undertray on the car, and that to get hammered by some road debris than the sump!
Use a different MOT station next time!
Passed...
Only advisory was a comment on the OEM plastic covers underneath the car "obstructing components".... he said it was just a standard thing they put on all MOTs for german cars with under trays. :stupid:
Bizarre isnt it mike.

Is it manifold off job?
Did you experience any chirping/squeaking noises under load?
You leave the manifold on. Alex takes off the lower right IC pipe and the throttle pipe and MAP connector, and removes it using various angled tools.

Also in other news. The nology plug have gone in the bin, and replaced with NGK Iridium 7s
There is a potential issue with them due to them being zero resistance. Alex is gonna put something up about it soon. I wasnt going to change them, but he said he wanted to just incase. More info to follow.
They don't have any electrical resistance. :P

What does that mean exactly "zero resistance" to non tech people?
Are the nology plugs something replace sooner rather than later? Think Alex put these in mine and the next service isn't due til September
Looking forward to Alex's findings on the Nologys - Unless i've missed it?? :ashamed:
It wont be anything special... but they will look "fresh"
Im using Foliatec paint.... which should be good. :happy2:Foliatec stuff is pretty good, I refreshed the rears on the ed30 with some and it was a great match to the OEM colour :happy2:
Rich how do you have 120 page build thread when all you've done is put some normalising height springs on it and a remap :popcornsoda:30 pages for the Ghostbusters sticker, 30 for the TDi badge and the other 60 for the crackle finish calipers

Just sub 5s 0-60
Shweeeeet "to do" list.
What's your aim.......stage 2+ or a super strong, reliable stage 2?
You got an uprated clutch mate?
To-do list :-
Needs a service in a few weeks. It also needs a new cambelt at some point before this year is out.
Soon....
Something interesting to be revealed in a few weeks :innocent:
Bilstein B8 (mk6 version)
Superpro camber ball joints
Alignment
Buy another 2 supersports and get my pescaras refurbed and all fitted etc etc
Later in the year.....
Superpro bush whole car (still up in the air about this)
Intercooler (only If i can pick one up for ~£200)
LOBA Pump
Need to try and figure out what is banging on sharp jolts (crap roads) on the front end, most of the time its as quiet as a mouse.
Lets see how much of that does/doesnt happen. :signLOL:
If I still have the car next summer and some money ~£1800, I might consider putting in a diff.
What's the benefits of changing to the SuperPro ball joints Rich?
Surely you're not going to do all those mods and then sell the car by next year lol!

They add negative camber to the front. Should give better mid corner grip.

Yes they do! Just need the brakes now to make proper use of them ;)
R32 are perfectly big enough. :happy2:

I was convinced I read you were now finding them inadequate in certain situations and getting 4 pots on the 32 discs...
Mehta size spacers are you running on the rear
how do you rate them to the goodyears?
Just had the Super Sports fitted today... too early to say what they are like but initial "F1 style tyre warmups" seem to give good feedback. They ride nice too, but new tyres always feel better/quieter.

So..... TTRS calipers going on with these decals. Why black? Because everyone has white :signLOL:

Wankers. I could do with getting a quote off Jake myself for a couple of bits on the Cupra.
Renewed the insurance on Nats car last night online then 10mins later she text saying someone had driven into it and driven off :@
Love this build thread! You've done absolutely everything the way I want to with my ED30.
A5 platform always had high compliance bushes so changing them will create a bit more harshness
Man up. :happy2:
Why didnt you lose the settings?
Sounds a worthy dual addition Rich :happy2:
If I went ARB and TT ball joints on mine, would I notice an improvement, or is it coupled with other mods you've done?
Very nice clean looking ed30! :)

Sorry to break this to you @rich83 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=709) , he was only here to bump up his post count. Doubt he's even looked at the thread
So all the subframe bolts replaced and tightened up to correct spec. Seems better.
Got a few things to do this year... Cam chain, and timing belt need doing. I think the mechatronics unit is on its last legs too so that will be getting changed over the next 2 years, or if it dies. :sad1:
Also needs the valves cleaning
I should check mine i get a clunk selecting D/R, someone said it could be the subframe bolts.
Ohh bollocks!

Hope not. Is there a DIY for that.I should check mine i get a clunk selecting D/R, someone said it could be the subframe bolts.

Do as I say, not as I do... Isn't that what the administrators all say to the moderators on joining?
And just "remove" those who oppose you?
I'd like to apply for an admin role, it seems fun. And you get to have big brakes it seems...
Wasn't referring to anything, just mentioning one of your many powers. I am down to get the NQSBBK but wondering whether I really need it.
Still curious as to how much better a set of TTRS calipers with 340mm disc really is over the NQSBBK, but when you run the 2 piece 370mm brakes its obvious. I'd doubt I'd find d the limit of the NQSBBK, let alone your setup!

I think it's dropped too. I'm sure it's got about 10mm lover since fitting the springs.
Need some spacers on te rear as it looks a bit "tucked" on the rear.
Yeah it needs new dampers just dont know what to get. Id like some adjusatble dampers... but not sure you can get them without going down the coilover route

You can get damper adjustable suspension kits I believe as that's what I toyed with. Fixed height and just tweek the rebound for different conditions. How come you don't want to fit coilovers?

So much good information here.

Bought some things...
Cam adjuster bolt...

Yep... @olethalb (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=12022) is doing the chain and tensioner for me but he didnt have a bolt, so we had to postpone.I find this clip is commonly forgotten about http://www.partscats.info/volkswagen/en/?i=cat_vag_models&brand=vw&number=1714&set=1728&ein=2007&f=474&hauptgr=1234567890&hg=1&grf=010380409&bf=10380&hgug=103&ug=03&parent_id=2335052&detail_id=2335071
Balls you've just reminded me i used a jubilee clip last time as the stealers did not have one in stock and i could not be bothered to wait another day. But get destroyed on removal.
they can 9 times out of 10 be released without damage and re used, but there's always the 10th time :signLOL:You learn something every day. With me 0 out of 10 can be reused. I have a lot to learn.
Mucho cheapiness?
B16 at half price...super! :happy2:
I don't use the adjuster rings on the back with my pss10. They aren't the lowest coil overs, my kW where slightly lower but I like to think the Billy's are more about performance
Brilliant rich, althought admit you want to go another 10mm lower :P
About time there was a worthwhile update in your build thread.
Great to read - can't wait to get rid of my OEM dampers now. They are exactly as you describe... no compression...
What alerted you to the steering rack giving up?
Has it lowered the ride height a bit
You might find it goes a little lower when it settles down in a week or so
Was the Rack genuine mate? How much was it if you don't mind me asking?
Mines starting to make some knocks and stuff when turning at low speed, well I think it's that anyway!
Yep B16 PSS10. About 1400 new I got them for a steal.
Now you just need to go stage 2 so you have the go to match your brakes and handling.
ooooooooooooooooooooohhhh.
:popcornsoda: :happy2:
Holding on for dear life is fun :-)
Managed to boil my brake fluid on friday. Chasing a Impreza... who then tried to tell me his car was 220bhp..... yeeeaaaahhh OK!!! :driver:He was probably playing it safe saying that in anticipation of being told yours was standard.

Did you use vcds to enable it in the installation menu?
@Bignod00 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=2840) Which BT variant? In fairness probably a better question for Eddie and the like in the relevant section.
Not used them before, but know folk who have and rated them.On a related note Rich, how do you find the Supersports now the temps are dropping, in the dry?
I am expecting them to be a bit worse in the wet but better in the dry. I love trying new tyres out and as these worked out at 180 for the pair I am willing to take on for the team and try them out. Im gonna get 2 more in feb... probably get my wheels refurbed in a darker colour too....
Bit of a drive mate. :signLOL:

Yep, pretty much what I've found. Good laterally in all conditions, but not so good at coping with full boost in lower gears in a straight line if it's cold, even in the dry.Not used them before, but know folk who have and rated them.On a related note Rich, how do you find the Supersports now the temps are dropping, in the dry?

hard to be objective as my fronts are on the limit. But they are not great, but I dont think any worse than any other performance tyre. Ive never lost traction in a bend in the wet though.
I'm hoping an anti-lift kit cures this as much as the good reviews suggest! It will reduce the wheel hop but not cure. :happy2: You'll have better front axle traction on corners. It's a must have upgrade really for any mk5/mk6 Golf.

Considered using R32 rear calipers with Audi A8 carriers and 330mm rear discs? You use the stock R32 sized pads...
Yeah ish... or something to do with the dashcam. Need to double check all the settings on the smart power box.I forgot about the cam. My low voltage cutoff is draining the battery (down to the set level) even when the camera is off. The varta battery is giving a much better crank though.
What was wrong with the MTEC discs?
That should be in the notepad section :p

Always a nice touch to stop them going bloddy orange. You should do the face of the disc as well so it matches :happy2:
I'm sure I've read somewhere that it's about 200ml per calipers on stock calipers so that's actually about right for bleeding. I pulled about the same amount through when I did mine, wanted to make sure I had absolutely no left over old fluid.
That fluid is very dark for a vehicle which gets such TLC Rich:ashamed: Ive seen worse.. but this was the beater.
If your is a manual did you do the clutch - 100ml?

She just keeps going, passed the mot today :). The judder is coming back though :(
Ah but the beater is minus TLC Dazza so that colour is perfect for the neglected chart!
In other news.... very very quickly approaching 100,000 miles
I admire your positive outlook. In other news.... very very quickly approaching 100,000 miles
Not sure if modern VW engines are the same, but I'm pretty sure the official line from VW regarding the old 1.8 8v and 16v engines was that the bottom end wasn't fully worn in till about 80,000 miles, but if it does apply then it means your engine has only just begun using it's full potential. :happy2:
Think that's what I'll replace mine with if mine ever go go dodgy! Would go s3 310mm but people want silly money for them now
Looks a good improvement Rich - have only ever read about this mod, but not heard of too many people on here doing it. Looks very affordable compared to my R32/S3 conversion! Congratulations on the mileage milestone!
Thanks. Yeah I could do but tbh I didn't take enough photos and I'm not sure this is a mod that everyone will be jumping on. Only seems like a handful of people have done it.
Tbh the brakes feel very similar to before. They defo need bleeding again and I need to give it a proper drive to test them.
Well done pizzle.
Ohh, not a nice sight to see... :surprised: Hope it wasn't too deep.
Not sure, i think its the Caddy 2K mk3... however I think they are also used on a few other VWs. Ill get some more pics up in a bit.

Nothings happened.... cars done 126K now. Need to fix an oil leak and get by BCS cat swapped over cos it keeps failing emissions tests
There's simply not enough substrate area, or heat under the car, for a 200 cell to be of any use. The materials used are woefully sub par as well. Not even close to OEM cat performance.
The only 2 options for an easy life are: sticking with the OEM DP, or fitting the biggest aftermarket cat possible in the space available.....but it's a catch 22 is a super big cat will need even more heat to work than the smaller one!
Good to see the BCS cat doing well.
@Pudding (https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=10733) our cars with fluids should weight around 1450 kg. Only the mk7 GTI weights around 1340 kg. 🙈

Really? I'm sure I read in my UK handbook the 'unladen' weight (for a manual) is around 1340Kg. I'll have to have another look!
@Shoduchi (https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=10590) https://fastestlaps.com/models/vw-golf-gti That's probably on the light side but I still don't think a MK5 GTI weighs 1450kg! VW's quoted weights are with fluids, equivalent ballast for one passenger and half a tank of fuel.
Mr Wiggles, nice to see you're still active and the ED30 is going strong. :happy2:
Rich, great to see one of the old members still running there ED30, I remember your initial post of getting the car, sub 20k on the clock then? I’ve had mine 8.5 years, now 114k, similar to yourself slight leak from a rocker gasket, but all good.
You have any corrosion issues?
Hi Rich, what calipers do you run with those discs?
Hope you are well Rich...
Them nuts can take some getting of I have a little gas blower to warm them up always work s
Those are some mighty brakes :happy2:
Definitely got your moneys worth out of those pads!
Christ!! Those discs and pads were well used :jumping:
Who is the ebay seller you used for your Lemforder parts? Cheers!
I had my new condenser spray painted matte black before fitting. I hate the silver seen through the centre grill. I can still see a bit of the do88 IC over the condenser. It's enough silver...

This did cross my mind. I presume just a Matt black high temp spray would do it?
Wow, that’s taken a beating. :scared: I can see the fins on mine are all smashed in but as far as I can see there are no gaping holes in it :signLOL:

Aye, and those folded over, mangled fins partially block the intercooler
Yeah still available, probably dry rotting in a warehouse somewhere because they would rather throw them away than sell them off cheaper. You can retrieve the parts from another mk5 Golf electric and heated seat and swap them to your seat. It'll be much cheaper.
I've replaced the covers on MK4 R32 seats before what a ball ache that job is! A passenger seat from Europe might be the best option.
If I’ve read that right, that’s a lot of wear for 1000 miles. Normal wear pattern though, so the cam lobe is fine. Uprated fuel pump?
Good job on the fuel filter, mine was a complete pain… my pipes wouldn’t budge!
Spark plugs should not get rusty… water shouldn’t be getting anywhere near there…!
Check your seals on your coils.
