Title: My Cupra K1 replacement-Golf R mk6
Post by: toosmiles on December 29, 2014, 12:22:43 pm
Just thought id like to show off my stunning K1 replacement,mk6 golf R,bought from markymark :happy2:
Firstly id like to thank mark for his exceptional up keep of the car,it is truly stunning inside and out
Id come to the decision of not spending big money on the cupra with a new hybrid or nortech turbo to still have the issue of traction so made my mind up of putting a feeler out for the cupra up for sale, well blow me it sold within a day lol,so a quick few calls to mark with the golf then sorting out the cupra to be sold a deal was made and the following sunday made the trip and stayed over to see/purchase the golf
Just looking at it in the dark i was sold ,a good inspection inside and out from my friend and myself then a test drive i made the decision there and then ill take it,done the deal on monday and drove it home :innocent:
For other health rerasons the swap over to the golf was a bonus, dcc suspension where theres 3 modes i can use comfort/normal/sport and another for the dsg/semi auto box,win win for me all round :happy2: never mind the 4wd and sport mode for the dsg :surprised:
Anyways the spec of the golf R
Xenon headlights
LED rear lights
DSG semi automatic gearbox
Auto headlights
Rain sensitive wipers
Cloth interior
Cruise control
RNS510 Sat Nav
Dynaudio Speaker System
Factory Bluetooth phone connection with voice control
Electric folding door mirrors with puddle lights
Auto dim mirror
Auto wing mirror Reverse tilt
DCC with Sport, Normal & Comfort ride settings
Front & rear parking sensors with optical display
19" Black Talladega Alloy Wheels
Heko wind deflectors
theres maybe more of the spec im not sure off
Performance Modifications:
Full Milltek Turbo back non res exhaust with black tips
ITG Enclosed intake system (similar to the VWR version)
Revo Stage 2 software

Future plans in a few months:
Full interior and number plate white leds
new wipers all round
new divertor valve
NGK 7 plugs
R8 red coilpacks

As a few people know me the cars gotta be spot on and these few subtle mods will just make the car that little bit more perfect
Only had a few pics of the car in the dark as its peed down and snowed since so its filthy lol but will update with new pics shortly

Lovely R20!

I think the mk6 looks much better in lighter colours. Candy White, Silver Reflex and Blue Thunder (just love this colour for any R).

Good luck and happy modding! :drinking:

Lovely car

Glad it went to somebody on here that'll appreciate it

Think an audi tts engine cover would finish off that engine bay nicely, also how come your oil cap sits off centre? Got one on my car and it lines up like the original one, wasn't aware they needed modding or that mine had been modded

cheers dave,it will get pampered
i did think tts cover but once all cleaned up with R8 coils, catch can etc would be a shame to cover it up
weird thing about my oil cap,its always sat like that???

Well guys what a day yesterday, especially the drive home
As you know i took the car down to Aks tuning as Alex has maintained my cars for some time now for a full health check
nothing really to report apart from it veering to the left slightly but ill get that done when the suspension gets changed:afro:
So new ngk 7's,R8 coilpacks and new rev G dv
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fk1cupra%2FGolf_R%2FP1040938_zps5a81ce28.jpg&hash=1fd94ebb366fe5bf796a8d464613b6e685265998)
then onto the new Loba hpfp ready for my stage 2+ file
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fk1cupra%2FGolf_R%2FP1040939_zpsb17d62af.jpg&hash=f0f15a76fea14f45f757e132edee17a2abbbf632)
didnt get chance to have my custon catch can fitted as alex never had the charcoal can delete file from revo,42DD plate, forge boost tap, custom can and sfs hoses
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fk1cupra%2FGolf_R%2FP1040940_zps19da42aa.jpg&hash=80913d9d02ee9af32387be31467eb4008d3838e6)
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fk1cupra%2FGolf_R%2FP1040942_zps7a438dd5.jpg&hash=b4ee10de6d183fabb2707803c026baa470dae2e8)

Now onto to the best part Revo stage 2+ file flashed over and the Revo DSG stage 2 file flashed on:cheesy:
Ran the vcds for any scans and its all sweet:afro:
Then bloody hell  stick it in manual and this thing just pulls and pulls into triple figures,it was just hold on like, the power and torque increase is amazing,i think its got a hard cut limiter on just after 7200 rpm as it sounded nice when i never changed up lol pop pop pop, also not tried launch control yet :cheesy:
Had some great feedback from @vRSAlex (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=1981)  also on saying how effing quick the car is now:wink:
really really pleased now so that will be it for a while until i get get my other goodies out of the shed for fitting:cool:

just ordered a runner flap delete kit from creation motorsport for £85 posted
i had the Apr rfd kit on last time on my K1 and that alone was £250,ill wait for fitting though as i need a code/flash from Revo usually to cure the cold starting issues this mod causes
Also just fitted a set of these to the number plate

a bit fiddley to get the pins to match up but done in about 20 mins, and NO bulb out on the dash upto now but ill keep you posted ;) bright isnt in it lol

Treated the car to some winter protection today by a local detailer, hard to see much with it being silver so theyd be loads of pics sorry but not too much iron fallout or tar,a couple of slight scuffs polished out also, here's what it had
Winter protection package starts with having all arches cleaned and power washed followed by the alloys cleaned, we then rinse the vehicle to remove loose debris and the vehicle is then snow foamed and left for 10 min to soften the dirt and a soft detailing brush is then used to clean the intricate areas.

After this The vehicle is pressure washed once again.
Snow foam is then added and the vehicle is washed using the 2 bucket method with grit guards.
The vehicle is then dried with plush microfibre towels and the decontamination process begins.
First the tar spots are removed and a iron remover is applied to deionise the paintwork.
The paintwork and glass are then Clayed to remove any bonded contamination.
All painted surfaces are polished and and cleansed to ensure a proper bonding surface.
1 coat of nano paint sealant is applied (extra coats can be added at an additional cost.)
A nano wheel sealant is applied to the alloys and a good quality rain repellant to the front and side windows.
Finally the tyres are dressed and the door shuts are cleaned.
Prices for our mobile car winter protection package start from £65, contact us for more details or quotes.
i had it finished with a coat of ceramic to extend the life of the detail

I have the same question but reading that toosmiles took his Golf to a local detailer, I'd guess that it's a copy/paste text explaining the procedure.

Love the wheels as I have the same. You can fit some Audi bolt caps that match the colour of the wheels. I have the part numbers in my project.

Nice car mate! Me and a mate fitted a Peron IC to my R last week, worth reading a few guides first as its a bit of a task! if you've got access to a ramp it will probably be a lot easier than on a trolly jack and axel stands. Also make sure you use the green o-ring off of the existing pipe with the new ally coupler otherwise it will leak boost (found out the hard way  :surprised:)

The Oz look tidy, have you found any OEM look VW centre caps to fit them? If you do, you might be on to something there...  :happy2: Not seen it done yet, from memory @toosmiles (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=8438)

The badges are excellent, bit of .:R inspiration there!

Matches the pikey paddles more or less

Popped over to Nortech Performance today to have a nice 90mm de-cat pipe fitted and came home with a full system lol :P
i was suprised on how resrictive the miltek was after a good chat with the owner, the downpipe even,3" down to 2.75 down to 2" at the back:undecided:
anyhows im running a 90mm de cat and true 3" straight through with hardly any bends or restictions adding for the best flow possible with titanium tips  oh and the miltek which is a great bit of kit has been sold

Looking good mate! Quick question, why have you added a 2nd jubilee clip to the dv return hose, had any issues with it popping off or just for peace of mind?

Well guys the Peron fmic and my china copy turbo/throttle pipes are on,blow me forgot my bloody camera lol
fitted the China copies of the cts pipes, throttle side no probs but turbo side where it mounts to the engine we had to use washers to space it out so it wasn't fouling the belt or water pipes, all back together and noticed the Peron turbo silicone pipe was to long and was causing a kink,so popped it off and trimmed it down now all sweet, car feels so much more free revving and power to the limiter, throttle response increased also so all good tbh,I'll have the revo settings tweaked when I'm over at aks tuning in june, also done my first launch,WOW.... :driver:

Ive ordered som eVT ones from Alex, Ive always fancied the VT ones for some reason.  The BSH ones have been great tbh, huge improvement on oem.  The stiffness transfers a 'gruff, sporty' engine note through into the cabin lol

coupler removed and 'shaved' and replaced the split O ring
Cts silicone pipe removed and shaved for better fitment

Well guys,
only a few bits n bobs done on the car,im not really 'feeling' the car atm???
since upgrading the mounts(which is probably why lol) the car doesnt seem to be as quick if you know what i mean??maybe its the cars not lurching forward when booting now cos its all stiffened maybe, also it seems like it drones now in acceleration, doesnt sound as nice when moving? maybe cos off these mounts again but seems fine from the outside lol
alex noticed that the peron fmic isnt sitting flush aswell, its on an angle and the throttle pipe is touching the fan shroud ;( and the bumper needs trimming so its getting booked in for another days work in october to sort this, intake manifold removed and stems cleaned then fitting RFD,then depending time wise the rear brakes will be upgraded with new brackets to run the larger discs, pads and Hel braided lines then a system flush with Ate super blue fluid
anyways sorry for the moaning lol, picked up a few bits n pieces over the past few weeks so gave it a go fitting etc
Newsouth boost gauge that matches the 'R' clocks and an Osir gauge holder vent
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fk1cupra%2FGolf_R%2FIMAG0206_zpsqhsuifnn.jpg&hash=cfb12df2b2d17ea6d6d4499e90ee5525f97b0086)
didnt fancy taking all the revo kit and battery tray etc to out get through the firewall so a mate pushed a metal coat hanger through from the inside and see where it came out
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fk1cupra%2FGolf_R%2F20150818_1350291_zpsaljiqtrz.jpg&hash=059c2ad28b28151253bdb2b8d68bf4c5932b3fc6)
now hows that for jammy lol, took a couple of attempts and a few zip ties to hold it on but manged to do it eventually so over the moon, new nipple onto the forge boost tap then fed under the dash and up the side panel near the drivers side fuse box into vent ;)
now im not really into the electric side but after reading the newsouth guide for wiring it into the headlight switch with posi-taps(never seen these before) i thought id give it ago,10 mins later all up and running :jumpmove:

Good choice on the brakes there.  :happy2:

They really do make a difference, especially considering the OEM discs are roughly the same weight ( iirc the AP discs and bells are a kilo lighter) and the OEM calipers are 10kg each!

well the front BBK is finally on,ill update with pics tomorrow sometime but thought ill just compare weights etc
Aston calipers 3.5kg Oem calipers 7.5kg saving 3.9kg
AP 362mm discs 9.2kg Oem 330mm discs 11.8kg saving 2.6kg
pads were the same,so a total of 6.5kg per side, not bad :jumpmove:

Alloy hubs sorted now, second hand but off a newish car so ill give them a clean and hammerite them while the weathers crap, ill order brand new bearings and ball joints to complement them, the superpro adjustable ball joints wont fit with this bbk so eventually ill get some ground control top mounts, itll be nice to see the outcome weight wise between the hubs

original steel hubs off and weighed are 8.8kg's so i saved 1.7kg's per side, nothing major but with the brake upgrade weight savings a total saving of 8.2 kgs per side on the front and savings on the walk kit and superpro arms it was well worth it
ill weigh the arms and walk for future reference later
cheers

Firstly a big thank you to Alex for his time and effort getting all this work done in 1 go :)
after a long day at Aks Tuning in bedford on friday the work was finished about 10 pm lol
we had a plan to do the work with me taking down my tyrol deadset kit and Hpa mount to fit if we have time,Alex spoke to me first thing and thought he'd be better off to fit the kit and mount first as it'll need a new alignment doing so he cracked on with that, back from the alignment back to normal after my other hub changes etc
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fk1cupra%2FGolf_R%2F20151121_133751_zpsedqlxokk.jpg&hash=d1e2c394a69f535c6f9e4900efdeae4a0e09a1bf)
now point and power with the steering again, nice and light, shifts seem and bit 'tighter' also after, the Hpa mount id admit a bit more cabin vibration but hopefully it'll settle in time
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fk1cupra%2FGolf_R%2F20151120_204142_zpsdnjawlvn.jpg&hash=d6d6da5d5c8f9548d9662f6802540c2ec25a4347)

Onto the strip down for the Peron fmic change, everything went to plan to be fair, maybe a bit easier for Alex as he was removing the inlet for cleaning anyway
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fk1cupra%2FGolf_R%2F20151120_152518_zpsryt0yn7n.jpg&hash=a85898529eed87d67f78e4301efb1858b95f5727)

lastly the Ttrs lpfp fitted and vcds checked and all is well again ;)
Loving how the car now feels, the throttle is very responsive and was like driving it for the first time trying to get the pedal right lol
the only thing i was expecting was a nice burble and popping when letting off the accelerator which the rfd delete usually gives, wasnt happening on mine :( maybe it wasnt in the revo map as theyve not had a map for the rfd cold start issues like i had on the cupra's Apr map,the cupra sounded awesome

Was the intercoolcer a direct fit or was there some customisation needed?

next job fitting the Bold Sport 3d door warning lights of a member on the mk5gti forum, luckily i enabled these with vcds when i had my battery problems
there just 3 bolts holding this on and some bloody strong clips lol i didnt remove the door card completely, just left the door lock installed, removed the window switch plug and left it sit on my mat as i could get at the door controller module easy enough, popped off the controller cap and added the live to number 18 and ground to number 19,this kit had pins on ready to push straight into the block
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fk1cupra%2FGolf_R%2F20160227_141826_zpsfnvaqjlp.jpg&hash=6a46bf1d5392eae7464fa04cb02bf07be35b19e0)

popped the cap back on and plugged in the controller module and nowt(damn)anyways i thought id whip the drivers door off and install this to check on the wiring etc, plugged it in and it came on straight away :innocent:

put everything back together as they were identical wiring etc and left it till i got home and checked with the vcds, looked into the drivers door coding and akll was fine so checked the passenger door and it wasnt coded in ready lol, enabled and voila:tongue: ,must admit these are bloody bright at night:cool:
last job as i had some 6d carbon wrap left over from doing my dash trim i thought id whip my door trims off, window down and pull the rubber back and theres 3 hex screws
original is quite scratched but could of been buffed out,if i get bored ill just rip it back off

need to get it dyno'd m8,Revo state around the 360 bhp mark
Friday morning..mot passed with no advisaries then insurance sorted for another year with Sky insurance,i did call round but none could match the price
Actually took a gamble on the weekend with the weather to have some other bits sorted/fitted to the car, thanks to Andrew,i bought the boldsport city light kit of him and thought id give it a go but wanted them running with the drls so there on all the time,as we know the wiring and bulbs are actually in the headlight ready but not actually wired up to work so with this yellow 'repair' wire i studied a few write ups and plugged it into number 10 on the headlight block then ran a wire under the headlight down to the drl which i was hoping to get to by taking the inner arch lining off and accessing from there but the washer bottle is in the way for access(drivers side) so a quick jack up and whipped the front bumper off instead lol

tapped into the green/blue power cable of the drl

apart from the the wiper arms being a nightmare to get off, even watching youtube video's how to get them off lol we managed eventually lol,the wiper motor is fidely to remove also and had to remove a bracket to the side of it for easier accesss

Last job...rear carbon diffuser to put on,deffo a 2 man job, needed some bloody strength as its not as bendy as the original so hard to get it into position without 1 end popping out grrr, anyways took us about 3 hours with removing and putting the bumper back on,i know its a copy but with a bit of filing down round the edges its quite a good fit,its only the reflecters that look a bit lost in it lol
got some pics but hard to see properly, needs a sunny day to show it off more

The City lights combined with the bumper LED's give such an aggressive look  :happy2:
Are the City lights only on when the headlights are off, or are they on with the headlights as well?

Just a few bits and pieces done on the R,ordered some rear carbon fins for the back but dont like the fitment, ill put some pics up later
going down to devils own owner Bruce's place on saturday to have the progressive kit fitted(dv30) i think, twin nozzle and 4 quart tank in the boot, controller in the glove box for fine tuning ;)
whipped out my revo filter guard so i could wrap the bottom on some heat tape i had left over, fitted some stickers to the boring dash buttons then service done in june so its ready for some more power now the cars ready built to handle it

A quick write up and a big thanks to Bruce and his brother Alfie for supplying and fitting my water methanol kit.Dropped me off in town about 9.30 and would call when finished etc
i decided to go for a progressive kit in the end(dv-30) which is more suitable for my needs and adjustable for any tuning in the future, also i had the solenoid upgrade and a second nozzle that they tapped into my throttle pipe with the other into my Aks tuning throttle plate.
only very fine modifications done for fitting these ports, the aks plate needed a part of the bracket above skimming down slighlty and the motor next to it,all leading to a nice clean install in the engine bay
next was mounting in the boot similar to Paul hulmes set up,pump in the small well where the usual safety equipment goes and the 4 quart tank again like pauls tie wrapped to the stiff carpet(not install into the body in case of any rust issues later arising)wiith the low level and lines on the inner to save the misses knocking it lol
overall done in super quick time as they both got on with the install and finished perfectly

its like driving at 0 degrees at night all the time now, main thing was to keep the temps down and clean the engine really but the little extra boost comes in handy

cheers Dan :happy2:
i think it needs fine tuning tbh, maybe when ive got a custom map on it,low revs it doesnt really spray, its set at i think 8 psi and max 15 psi which i think is low but im on a low boost map, used a quarter of a tank in 60 miles but thats mostly motorway speeds

next onto some under seat lighting for the back, the seats already came with the hole in for the light fixture then just needs to be tapped into the other front foot lighting
new leds to compliment them all so its all one 'shade' 6000k
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fk1cupra%2FGolf_R%2F20160510_112537_zpsv1e5eaah.jpg&hash=a8728688914a3be768586824fad758ca39271ed0)
from under the seat light fixture then under the carpet to the door trim, then bonnet release trim loosened to feed wires upto original lighting
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fk1cupra%2FGolf_R%2F20160514_133346_zpssecvskxa.jpg&hash=94e255fe8f4859871e5a78ddd862bedebdc9f720)
ive used these before so its easier if they have to be removed in the future

lastly sorted out my problematic polar fis+ display resetting itself and turning off every 10 seconds or so,spoke with alex at Aks tuning firstly about it and ran an update first to see if it cures it...went back to the same problem aftyer a few mins grrr, next was a factory reset then update but still the same problems
lastly was to remove everything again to make sure its all seated correctly, the only thing we seen was the connector was slightly not seatting in perfectly
so i thought ill remove the cover and found this

ran the car for a few mins and reset all the parameters and its perfect, must of not been keeping its memory etc but its reading better than it was when i first got it :)
only thing to do is i need a new windscreen :( excess of £60,ive been putting it off for a few weeks now because of buying mods lol

sorted the next day though and had a crack at the new Hel lines on the rear to find there the wrong bloody fitments grrr.
fair dooze to Hel though, called them straight away and they sent the right fixtures over on a 24hr delivery to find then it pee'd down since so not fitted them yet
had my new windscreen fitted at last to find the scuttle panel has a crack in it and a few scuffs so ill need another to be perfect :(
had a play around with my front grill also, made a few more airflow holes then decided to cut it away altogether haha, then installed my new red background 'R' badge to see if i like it or now then stuck some leftover carbon vinyl on the back of the VW badge
had a go at wrapping the 'R' after about 3 attemps i was happy with it

had a play around with my revo heatshield also trying to get rid of all that hot air the radiattor pipe gives of underneath where the filter sits
made a template out of some steel lying around and chopped and sawn into shape then stuck it on with the heat reflective tape if by any chance it comes off to be sold etc its easily removeable, not bad for a hacksaw lol

lastly after alot of discussions online and facebook etc i went and bought a Gfb+ from Amd tuning essex as there a reputable company selling an original gfb
dead easy to strip down my rev g and install the gfb bits and bolt back on in 15 mins, first impresions is a very responsive throttle pedal, really eager to boost also and sweet to the red line ;) my rev g was in pefect condition as only fitted in january so noticed a nice improvement

100% the wrong brake line.  It might fit, but doesn't mean its correct.

these were direct from Hel and i personally spoke to the manager after the first set was wrong and he said oh yes there definately correct as weve sold this kit for years

I've had a few issues with Hel in the past, but seeing as the 4motion system between the R32 and 6R is the same, just use R32 parts.

The rear brakes lines are the same, doesn't matter if it's FWD or AWD, if I recall correctly. Just the fronts are different.

This is my rear brake line. If I remember well, my mechanic had to do some work to it so it'd fit correctly:

cant understand why Hel were adamant they fit,the first kit didnt fit as the bolt was the wrong thread and too small so they sent out the correct hoses free of charge next day which are now fitted perfectly
id presume they still do the same job?
ive had no problems with them

I'm no mechanic but those hoses eliminate the caliper hard pipe and should do the job well too.

cant understand why Hel were adamant they fit,the first kit didnt fit as the bolt was the wrong thread and too small so they sent out the correct hoses free of charge next day which are now fitted perfectly
id presume they still do the same job?
ive had no problems with them

thats what Hel said m8,the main reason for upgrading as thats the weekest point they say  :happy2:

Well after my first 1/4 mile run at 12.5 secs ive decided i need a better map to my plug in revo, quite pleased with this tbf, running full weight compared to the other cars with no spare tyre and no back seats
Ill go custom R-tech map and run there full pcv delete as my partial charcoal can/catch can install isnt fully removed, then still getting parts together for a turbo build
A good friend installed some nice Corbeau Rss seats for me this last few days also, needed to go reclining with being a 3dr,i dont want to make the car unusable so people cant get in the back, even if no-one really sits in them anyway lol
my main reason i wanted to change is for the weight saving, ive got 5.5kgs per side off,11kgs overall so im happy with that, quite comfy and loads of support :)

So...

How does it compare to a tuned Evo now the comparison is a bit fairer? :-)

bit more bhp than my evo had so id say a bit more top end speed where niki has put the power, low down torque capped also
but i still love the sound of the evo lol,its more of a weekend car really, the golf is a better place to be in and does everything youd want out of a car  :happy2:

Hey

Prestatyn Mk5 GTI owner here, just read your build from start to end. Epic motor! Recognised “P-town” and Dyserth in the pics. Kudos!
