I would also log injection timing, lambda regulator and overall ignition timing. When I checked for timing issues, it turned out to be too much boost, not enough fuel. Crazy high injection timing and lambda correction being maxed out at 25%. I'm running the same boost as you are, on stock k03 injectors lol

Changed my manual transmission oil the other day. The old oil was 19 years old and had 150k on it. When it came out, you could literally tell which part was oil and which part was water. A few of the mechanics I consulted with said it's likely due to condensation cause of how hot these engines get. I was in a rush so didn't take any pictures but I've attached a picture that i found on google that looks almost like mine.

After searching through the forums, I've decided to use OEM G052171A2 which my local parts dealer had a hard time sourcing. He said he called up almost all his suppliers until he was able to source me 3 bottles as this part number has been discontinued since 2020 and the new stuff is twice as expensive. 3 bottles of this and a bottle of Febi that I used to run the box at idle for a minute to flush it, set me back about 125 euros. The gearbox took about 2.6 liters of oil to fill up.

Result? slightly smoother gear changes when hot, virtually no sticking or hanging when cold. Before the oil change when the engine was cold and the car was rolling, sometimes I couldn't even put it in 2nd and it would always stick when coming out of 2nd. That all went away now.

I'll make a couple of videos. Not sure if you are asking if it works or is it worth it haha. It does work but it's more like a burble tune since the car still has the series car. I do my own tunes and I didn't went all crazy just a bit. And with the exhaust I'm really happy just enough sound and not annoying.

Hallo!

Good job with this MK5, paint looks excellent!

So you tuned the pops? Did it worth? I have mixed feelings with that mood. Also the exhaust... maybe you have a video with the sound?

As mentioned check for chain stretch.

It is a combination of belt and chain the GTI.  The chain stretches over time and puts the timing out once the adjuster runs out of adjustment itself.

Lots of things to check really like wear on the adjuster (should be smooth inside and not groove wear from the ring seals), the rings that sit in it can snap which looses oil pressure in the adjuster that corrects the cams and keeps timing........start to go from around 90k miles onwards

Carbon build up on the intake valves

Thanks a lot mjmallia for your insight.

I did the intake valve cleaning myself not long ago (less than 3000 miles).

I checked on VCDS the timing chain spec (operating temp at idle) and it looked good. Heres a picture

Thanks for the advice. This car is an FSI engine which uses a belt instead. Or do you mean the little chain that drives the 2 cams together.

I would use VCDS to check the chain stretch on the cams when warm to see what condition that is in.

Group 91 and 93 hot idle.

I need to try to figure out why is the ECU pulling timing but there's no knock. Where can I look at or what can I try to resolve it?

Mods are:

k04-064
New LPFP
HPFP with IE internal kit
RS4 injectors
Cold air intake with filter
3" Downpipe
Forged JE pistons with IE forged rods
r8 coils
Forge front mount intercooler
BKR7E gapped to .024
Already tuned by a company

Depends if you have the early hollow BBS versions or the later solid RONAL versions
