Had to replace the HPFP with a new Genuine Pump, also changed the fuel filter while I was at it

Now the problem is I'll have to remove the new pump now to swap the VIS Internals into it hopefully it goes OK

Last Poster: Jeevan in Mk5 General Area on Today at 05:23:42 pm
I know I wish I could keep the MK2 but it’s not very responsible with the position that I’m in now. I’m only 21 so I have to plan for the future.

And yes I posted a wanted thread however no one got back to me. Seems like no one is selling on here at the moment. I’ve posted a swap post on Facebook and I’ve had a couple people interested but the guy I’m talking to is away

It would be good to know how thorough their alternator belt check was. Hopefully it wasn'#039t just a "quotYeah that looks OK"quot job. nbsp The alternator pulley has a one way clutch on it, which if it fails, could potentially cause noise. If the pulleys look shiny on the inner ridges, that indicates a worn belt.

The only other thing I can think of that makes a loud squealing noise

Gen 3 Steering Rack (MK6/Scirocco) into MK5

I thought I'#039d create a sticky for this as it comes up often, and will continue to crop up the older these cars get.

This info is based on a manual GTI with a standard non-MFSW steering wheel. nbsp If you have a MK6 MFSW fitted there may be some extra software steps to do, but that'#039s covered in a separate thread in the sticky section.

Does it? That sounds about right!  I was looking at the tacho from the passenger side but next time I drive it, I'll check and confirm.  I did think the gearing was a bit short for a diesel

Nice nbsp :happy2:

Yes Magnaflow and Borla cats pass MOTs no problem. nbsp Being American, they have to be California compliant......the strictest air quality regulations in the world.

Years ago, boring story bro, I built a Corrado VR6 turbo and the only aftermarket cat that got it through an MOT was a Magnaflow cat from a truck. A large square one, not the barrel d

Well done on finding the bolts mate, top man, very useful  :happy2:

No don't touch the main bearings.  You have to drop the crank to do those.  Main bearings never wear as they only deal with very light rotational loads, unlike the rod bearings which have to deal with very severe push-pull loads....especially the upper half.

Last Poster: Pudding in Mk5 General Area on Today at 09:09:05 am
Do yourself a favour and get a used S3/6R ic off ebay.

I'#039ve been running a 6R ic for years now and the cooling efficiency of them is superb. nbsp Never any more than 10 deg above atmosphere under full throttle conditions. MK5s don'#039t need anything more than that except when doing big turbo conversions, or running a K04 flat out.

A lot of the really cheap ics I'#039

Re: Release bearing, any issues if left?
Last Poster: Pudding in Mk5 General Area on Today at 08:59:22 am
How old is the car? nbsp 05 and 06 cars had a problem with excessive end float on the input shaft, which needs shimming. nbsp 07 onwards gearboxes were shimmed at the factory.

The main issue with that is the clutch pedal staying on the floor and difficulty selecting 1st and 2nd gears, but it can also cause noise problems. nbsp If your gears slot in OK and the pedal doesn'#039t stick

H&ampR 29176-1 are the ones you need. nbsp Always go with the vehicle specific choice.

Options listed as simply "quotMK5 Golf"quot will be a generic spring rate, rather than specific to the vehicle'#039s weight, handling characteristics and damper tuning.

My OEM dampers were completely shot at 80K. nbsp They weren'#039t leaking oil, but all the of the gas had gone. nbsp Press the da

Re: Rust on sills
Last Poster: Pudding in How to Guides / Troubleshooting on Today at 08:20:48 am
The sill had actually rusted through on mine, just by the rear wheel. nbsp Seems a common place for them to go, also on the MK6 as well. nbsp And no doubt the MK7 as VW appear to have done nothing to prevent this problem through the years. nbsp My MK4s went there as well nbsp

Removing the side skirt isn'#039t too bad but removing the old adhesive is a pain. nbsp Get yourself a toff

That’s pretty awesome that it was straight plug and play. Is the stereo an original VW then too?
I was thinking of replacing the stereo on mine but I weirdly like the fact it’s still got Galaxy 105 and Ridings FM saved!

Love the flippant statement on your previous post that you just “got it resprayed”...! That’s a pretty big deal! Looks awesome though now, assuming

Cripes, not what you want when you’re so close...

Is it all sorted now?
yeah less than ideal.

Yes all sorted, had a test today to confirm.

“The seals inside the head had gone”

So luckily won’t be the worst case price. Back on the roller

hi all, still chasing turbo flutter (as well as small rev hang) on my GTI. I cant figure out what it is... I'#039m now wondering if the solenoid on the DV isn'#039t pulling the DV back when I lift off the throttle and that'#039s what'#039s causing the flutter? its such a pathetic flutter too.. Standard 3 door GTI in shadow blue
      Location: Kent
      Collection Only

Hi all, Seeing if anyone is interested in my 3 door shadow blue GTI. It is a nice example of a standard car with no rust. I am not in any need to sell however it seems a shame as it has mostly been in storage this year due to other projects so I would let it go to another enthusiast. Details as follows:

Four Michelin PS4’s fitted on 6th January 2021. Full service carried out on 4th January 2021 including genuine VW cambelt and water pump, oil was replaced with Millers Nanodrive CfS 5w-40 NT+. Both rear brake calipers have been replaced with TRW OEM calipers. PCV and DV have been changed (GFB+ DV fitted). Currently on a private plate and this is not included. Lots of receipts and history with the car and fully stamped service book present. Fitted with full leather including armrest, and RNS510 with Bluetooth phone connection. I have just had the front arch liners out and all wheels off for a clean and seal ready for winter. 99k miles, manual.  £5750. Kent.
