Title: bluetooth music streaming functionality help. rcd510
Post by: jedi-knight83 on January 10, 2015, 03:30:04 pm
So on holiday last year i had a mk6 golf tdi with a RNS315 headunit and bluetooth. Its my first experience of vw bluetooth and it was great. Easy connection of the phone and then I could stream music .. and this is the bit.. where the music track and artist came up on the head unit and i could skip forward and backwards with the steering controls

Skipping forward in time. I bought a 2012 caddy with em bluetooth and was disappointed to find that although I could stream music to the basic RCD310. it simply came up on the display "bluetooth-audio'. I spoke to Eddie-NL about a possible need to upgrade the bluetooth module but apparently its one of the latest versions. The suggestion to try a RCD510 was given so I've now done that and get exactly the same display.. just 'Bluetooth - Audio'

I was really hoping it would display the track info and allow me to skip music with the head unit and steering wheel controls instead of having to control the music via the phone.

But now i'm wondering if this is something purely reserved for the RNS315... which i've since found out has its own built in bluetooth module.

Thanks in advance.

That's all I get on the display

This is the part for the headunit.

What bluetooth module have you?  I have the 7P6 M module installed in my car with a RCD510 and I get all Artist, track name and Length of track etc. on the RCD510

I think that's the problem then.  Look at the features here. I don't see it mentioned that you can control a2dp Bluetooth music streaming on the headunit with it. In the m version it is listed

I've got the 9W7 module which I've used with an RCD 510 DAB and RNS 315. In both cases all I get on the screen is BT-Audio with no track names or ability to skip.

So I would say it probably indeed is bluetooth module related.

Spanner in the works.

Eddie-NL tested a J module on his car today and apparently the song info came up on his!?

Not sure whether to try an M module or not now. I het knowing my luck it would make zero difference.

That is a bit of a spanner allright! I looked again on the car systems site and they have a second newer J module and in the features it mentions track information will be displayed on head unit.   I still think it's your module to be honest.  Modules K, L, M are all listed with the functionality on their site

Is there any model identification for the newer one? Just so I could see if Eddie tried a new one and I have the old one??

There is a M module on eBay for £100. I might give it a punt and cross my fingers.

100% fed up this evening.

no ones fault obviously and i value everyones advice to date.

I bought 2 bluetooth kits 7P6 035 730 M (one to upgrade the van and one to install in the car). I was hoping the M module, compared to my current J version, would give me the track info on the head unit as I've wanted all along.

Sadly this hasn't solved things. I tried simply changing the J module in my van for the M module in the van and also tried with the new loom and the M module in my car.

Both worked exactly as my current J version.. IE.. perfectly well as a handsfree kit and to stream audio but without giving the track info on the head unit and without giving control of the music to the head unit or the steering control..

Any other ideas?

To recap..

I have an iPhone 6 (I also tested my J module with a friends samsung S4 mini)
2012 VW Caddy highline with RCD 510 DAB currently with 7P6 035 730 J
2005 VW Golf GTi with RCD 510 DAB. currently no Bluetooth but now tested with 7P6 035 730 M and not giving track info.
Everything works perfectly, just no track info or music control when playing bluetooth music either in napster or iTunes on the phone.

I put in a 7p6 E version today and it shows the track info. Can even change the tracks from the RNS too.

Hope that helps

I really don't get it... and I wouldn't say I'm an idiot. I've successfully managed to retro fit several cruise kits, upgraded mk6 steering wheels along with related SWCM's and CANBUS modules and managed to code them all so I'm really hoping its not me being an idiot with a simple setting..

... also I'd have said that I need to switch my RCD510 to an RNS510 but Kieran earlier in this thread said his RCD510 showed the track info????

Really confused.

Yeah it will work with s5. Only thing is that the Bluetooth module takes over the SIM card so you won't be able to use your phone for Internet whilst bluetooth is connected to the car. And to dial out and answer you would control it all on the rcd/rns.

If you get a highline later on then u can dial out using that too

Which module did you end up using then?

Ok so head unit is now 3C8 035 195 G made by Bosch
BT Module is 7P6 035 730 J VW OEM unit

iphone6 works perfectly and I can control calls and music from the phone and still use 3g / 4g
It brings up song info and allows me to control it from the head unit
It also brings up my phone book info on the head unit in a format that can be read now compared to the old head unit which displayed the names but then when you looked at the info for that contact it was a scrambled mess.

Very happy i've finally got it working.

About £14000  :signLOL:

(it was standard on my new van)

They seem to be about £160 on eBay though... need to buy another one for the golf so i can have the same set up in both.

Thanks,

I'm having very similar trouble. Retro fitted RCD510 and 9w2 bluetooth to ED30 ( headunit is 3C8035195A) with microphone, the whole oem kit and caboodle. Got bored of not being able to control the phone or music streaming via bluetooth from the headunit. I updated the CAN before I even started the whole thing. Keep seeing people going on about checking software on headunit via a long press of the setup button but all that does is bring up FM/AM/DAB tuning stuff with no hint of finding what version I have. I'll probably need it updating but the real problem is that I've now fitted a 9w7 bluetooth module and I now have nothing. It says it's connected to my iPhone and shows as such on the headunit but thats it. Can't make or receive calls either from phone or headunit and i can't stream music anymore although it did for just a few seconds then just said NO.
Anyone got any ideas ? Am I missing something in coding ? Or am I going to have to attack it with a sledgehammer ? Is it possible the module is faulty? I wouldn't have thought it would work at all and show no connection if it were faulty but it looks like i know absolutely zero.

I have an RDC 310 with BT module (5K0035730D) and I can't play, pause or skip songs (I can only control the volume). I'm a bit lost because I've just bought the car and I don't know if there is any option that I didn't see.

2 years on...
Did you ever fix this? I've just added a 9w7 module to RNS 510. Either just keeps connecting and disconnecting or if it does connect nothing work, no sound or music etc.
