Really liking the blue detail in the headlights, why VW didnt use this theme in the R seems :stupid:

Niiice.
Saw one of these on the road the other day.

I haven't been on the internet properly for months so forgive my ignorance but what's the point of this car over say a GTD?

Very smart.  I like the blue trim on the grille which then goes into the headlights.  Nice how the calipers match that detail too.

Dials are fancy.  As the charge goes down the rev counter begins.  Some nice touches there!

Congrats!

Probably about 120MPG or 120eMPG all things considered... but with rising Electric prices to the plug and Euro 6 dervs getting more and more Economical...

Still, it's a great looking Mk7 and I'd have one tomorrow once the cost to purchase drops significantly.

What's the difference between this and the e-Golf?

The latter is pure electric, I think.

I love it, the attention to detail is amazing!  :happy2:

Close! I do a 32 mile trip to work and most of that is on the motorway so not the best road for this car i get normally 70 MPG but when i am just driving on normal roads i get 100 to 150 MPG in hybrid mode  :innocent:

Its the future, very popular on the continent already.
That right i think they are too...that why i got one so I'm ready!

It only cost me 90p to charge it from empty to full and i get 30 miles out of that so I'm happy at the moment with that!

And ya they are VERY expensive...i could of had a Golf R cheaper

What he said!  The e-Golf is electric only and the GTE in a PHEV (a plug in hybrid)

Saw my first one on the road yesterday and it was the same colour. The DRLs make them very easy to spot!

So you get 30miles from one charge?
A little confused as to how it works

Does it use the electric only until it's flat and then the engine?

Out of one tank of fuel how many miles of range do you get? :)

You say you could have gotten a Golf R cheaper, have you calculated fuel costs to see after 3 years if you'd actually claw back the cost difference?

@xjay1337 (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=7542) pointed me in this direction!

I don't believe that's true, I have prices there and the R in Ireland is more expensive than the GTE. This is just off the shelf cost!

Apparently you get 30 miles on electric only and then another 510 miles on a full tank of petrol with the 1.4L engine but this might be based on VW's estimate of 160mpg conditions. Talking to the VW dealer who has been driving his one for a few months and he said driving it to death returns 44mpg and generally it is actually spot on in the 60mpg range which is actually pretty poor considering they quote 160mpg.

I'm going to view a GTE with VW as soon as I get back to Dublin....

How are you liking yours so far? Any advice?

I previously worked for Audi and when the A3 E-tron came about we would actively discourage anyone who wasn't using the car properly, or thinking their MPG would increase, that's not what the car is designed for.

This is designed for someone who lives between 0-30 miles from work, can drive there on pure electric, plug it in a domestic socket to charge it, and drive home on pure electric, meaning its cost you the price of the electricity, the 1.4 petrol should only really be used for journeys outwith your commute/typical journey, that's where this car really re-coups its costs, or with the Audi anyway as it was £5k more than a normal A3 before the government funding.

No offence, but whoever sold you the car should have explained these points to you, even if you get 2/3's of your commute there and back on electric this car will save you a hell of a lot of money!
