***Have now sorted - fix at the bottom***
Hey guys, my DSG gaiter is look a bit old so decided to buy a new one with red stitching. Looks really nice but i really cant cant the old one off !!!
I followed a guide on here how to remove the gear knob from the car. but now its off, i can not remove the gaiter from stick, not sure if there is a release clip somewhere or just glued on, as there does seem to be a bit of glue around the top.
This is a much harder job than i first though :stupid:
Here are some pics to show you, any help would be great.
Tie wrap in top to stop button going in.(from the guide)

Only a guess as I've never done this myself, but does the end bit with the slot in need to be squashed together allowing the square bit to slide down?
As I say only a guess! :D good luck!
-
yeah i kinda tried that, but it feels a bit brittle, and even when it squashed in it does really feel like it gonna move..... :stupid:
what a blag....

Its getting dark now, so im going to have to back together soon, any answer soon would be great :popcornsoda:

No its different to that mate, cant believe i cant find anything on the internet how to remove a DSG gear knob :stupid:
-
Any Sunday readers know how to remove the DSG gear knob? cause i still have no idea
-
Ok, so the only possible way i could get the black plastic bit off was a bit of saw action.
Here is what i did with a junior hack saw:
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fk489%2Frocketrossuk%2FIMG_0589_zps2e441fa5.jpg&hash=16211c0093b2da85bc2514a4b640a0bc5c3f9ccf)
I was then able to get this old gaiter off - thank f*ck - should have been an easy job.
Or well, so then simply hot glue gunned the plastic back together, back to new.
So if any one has this problem and cant get the clip of, give this s try, i will update title to, how to remove DSG gearknob

Just revitalising this post so it has a chance of being searched quicker than what it took me today with the same challenge...
Yes, this is the only way to replace just the leather gator on my R32... Cut the plastic clip on the base of the knob. (I used a Dremel.)

Hope that helps...

I am in the same situation with replacing the gaiter on my R32. I want to go ahead and cut this part but I am worried that it wont hold the gear knob as firmly once its repaired and glued back together. Was yours ok after doing this? Thanks
