Mk5 General Area / Re: 62% insurance increase anyone?
« Last post by Jons1001 on Today at 11:24:29 am »
Like any insurance, broadband etc. they rip the absolute piss on renewals.

I always get quotes from comparison sites and also a few brokers and then ring the best 2 or 3 to see if i can get a better price. I ring the cheapest first and say 'x company have offered it for £40 less than your quote can you match it?'

Sometimes works sometimes not but worth a go.

Aight time for an update!

I've taken off the old K03 turbo and I'm getting ready to mount the K04. Here's a video of the play in both turbines. The K03 has a lot of play in every direction, the 04 only has some sideways play. The 2 mechanics I spoke to said this is normal for it's mileage and as long as there's no back and forth play or damage on the walls/blades, it's good. Worst case scenario I'll just take it off again and get it repaired.

« Last post by Lewo on Yesterday at 11:47:37 pm »
Yep, email today says that's what they want.....62% more  :rolleye:
Robbing so and so's, will check comparison sites sure enough.
Was expecting an increase from what I've read but nope, not on.

Get it seen to by a vw specialist  Does sound like subframe knocking  All the bolts will need to be replaced and torqued properly
There are aftermarket kits which will fix it if installed properly :happy2:

Hi,

Any ideas as to what this noise could be? Clicks when setting off and coming to a stop, sometimes clunks.

Had it since my front suspension was replaced? Wishbones, control arms, tie rod ends, shocks top mounts replaced.

They said they had to adjust the front subframe so maybe the bolts?

Thanks

Welcome to the forum!

Looks suspiciously like the charcoal canister line. Possibly broken off at the canister end.

Mk5 General Area / Re: Mk5 GT impossible tapping noise
« Last post by Von on May 01, 2024, 01:15:23 pm »
UPDATE: So I have replaced the timing belt system, and the tapping isnt gone, but something i believe i forgot to mention, last time i checked the oil filter there appeared to be some silicone bits stuck to it, i believe the previous owner did some shady repairing with silicone and it ended up in the engine, so we went and checked the oil pump, which seems to be clogged, weird, because the oil pressure test was fine, now im going back and replacing the oil pump and the piston rod bearings.
Also, genuine question, since my turbo is pretty much done for, would a bigger turbo be an easy upgrade, or am i gonna have to replace injectors and so on?

How to Guides / Troubleshooting / Re: Mk5 gti code p0299
« Last post by MKVASMR on April 30, 2024, 09:46:16 pm »
I had the same issue a couple of weeks ago. Checked the DV, PCV, N75 Valve, checked the fuel trims (hoses etc…). Ended up being a cracked turbo exhaust side. It was a hairline, but after replacing it all was good. Not saying that that’s the issue in your case, just something to be aware of. Start by checking the boost hoses, if they are oily it could mean that here is a leak. Specially where they connect to the intercooler. Next I would check the DV and after that the PCV. If you have a way to log the MAF, do that and multiply the g/s (I think) from engine live data, channel 02. Should be around 160 I think. Is the car tuned? It can throw the same fault code when it’s tuned. But if it goes well I wouldn’t really give it much attention.

Mk5 General Area / Re: Seat fabric / cover

I've been told by an upholsterer that the stitching is different (weaker?) on the airbag side compared to the other side so you should state that when selling really.

Definitely good info…I will check the inside of the cover to confirm this.

Thanks!

Sneak peak today. Went in for a seat fitting so they can weld in the seat mounts in the best location for me. Unfortunately I took terrible photos  but looks great so far. Tubing is as close to the chassis as possible, welds look beautiful and the bends are super smooth rather than sharp and weak. Still lots to do of little jobs but the big job is done, need to start working out my paint strategy now. If I lived somewhere hot I would probably leave it as its a shame to cover up such lovely welds and beefy looking steel tubing, but as with everything here it will rust...

I have seen a couple of mk5's out there with the tubing welded to the floor instead of rear turrets which seems either a massive oversight or juts a cheaper/easier way to do it. Not sure why you would leave the opportunity to link the rear turrets together and attach the cage to a stronger parter of the car as opposed to what I presume it double skinned flat sheet steel..
