I am selling my MFD2 but I have not got the code. Now reading some threads it says the dealer will supply for free if ring them with VIN, others say they charge and others say you need to go to the dealers and provide proof of ownership of car.
Does anyone know the right answer and also what exactly do i need to supply to them in terms of vehicle details, stereo details etc

For my experience it depends on the dealer or what connection you have with them. If you're well connected they can give it to you for free. They just need the VIN and the serial number of the radio to check VW's database. No one ever asked for proof of ownership because they knew well I was the owner. I sold the RCD-500 MP3 from my GT Sport and the RNS-510 version A from my Ed. 30, so I had to ask the codes from the dealer.

Is there anyway of retrieving the radio code from the system itself or do I need to take the stereo out and get off the back

Do you mean the radio serial number? You can get it from a VCDS scan.

Yeah that's what I mean as the only other thing I need is the VIN which can get from V5.
My VCDS doesn't fully work for changing settings but does scan ok. I presume it is within 56 Radio to get it

Yes, scan that module, you'll get the serial.

Take your radio to a VW garage with your vin number. They will give you the code FOC.

Yeah i ahve the VIN and just need the Serial number although I suppose that doesnt matter if I am physically there woith the car. However I rang the VW near me this morning who initially wanted to book me in for what should be a 2 mins job and also said £20

Just go in..... They shouldn't charge you.

Yeah if the dealer that sold my ar from scratch doesnt give me any joy then I will drive the car into the local VW. If I have to fork out £20 then I will as already sold the unit now

Just an oficial VW dealer can access VW's database to give you the code. If they're nice they can give it to you FOC, if not they'll charge whatever they like. I've heard from 15 min. of labour to 1h!
