Just wanted to say a big thanks to hlcst (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=11306) for his help.
For us DNX520 owners I thought I'd place the latest updates for 2015 for the Headunit, Nav and 2015 Maps all in one place. It's a 4gb download and instructions are inside.

Just reliability I think Rich, like anything, just updating .
Main thing is the 2015 maps.
I put the maps on mine, although with only the 2015 maps selected I don't get any route guidance, so I had to enable my old 2011 maps to use as route guidance.
Probably something I've done wrong :stupid: :signLOL: :signLOL:

I'm not sure, I think it's the 2015 one, it looks a little different to how it did before

Awesome glad to hear it.
I changed my maps to 2015 only and figured out you need to manually put the space between the first and second part of the postcode. Old style didn't matter.

Haven't got round to downloading this yet, am I right that I can flash this on using the sd slot on the front of the unit? I'm sure I read something about the back of the unit for map updates, maybe if you don't want to use sd.

The back is used to load the map directly to the unit and replace the old one but it's a lot easier just to leave your sd card in the slot

Ah I didn't know that! I may pop my HU out because I need the 16GB MicroSD card for my photos lol.

You need to do it by connecting the HU to a laptop

I will try that! I'm assuming there's a port on the back of the head unit? Or do you connect to the USB?
The webpage I use for guides for this HU doesn't mention that.

You just use the USB, I was toying with the idea of plugging a mini USB to USB cable in the back and sending it into the glove box so I could access it when needed. Basically you just drag and drop the files
Some info I found:
Mini-USB port
The mini-USB port found on the back of the DNX520VBT is an undocumented port that enables the user to access the Garmin map folders built into the unit to update files within the Garmin folder. Please note if you do update any files or folders via this method to make a full backup of the Garmin folder before any updating is done.

I think I've found a way to update these to the new 2016 maps.
I've just installed in my car and will test after work.

I'm uploading the required file now and will share link when done.
Quite pleased with it as 2016 isn't even officially available direct from Kenwood yet (I used the unlocked map file from a more recent head unit).
Basically, as long as you have completed the 2015 update process in this thread you can just replace the gmapsupp.img file on your SD and BOOM 2016 maps.
Also if your SD card is big enough you can re-name your existing file to gmapsup1.img and you can have both installed and change between them if you like (I just left it on in case in issue with 2016 maps).

I have the 2011 maps on the Head Unit and 2015 maps on my memory card.
I will move the 2016 maps to the HU and keep the 2015 maps on the card for a while to ensure no issues.

replace the gmapsupp.img file on the existing map file?
so for me as i want to update my HU i'll need to overwrite the 2011 maps on the HU and then copy this 2016 file to that.

I'm not sure about the Hu maps. I just replaced the SD one.

I know this is a quite old topic, I tried to follow the three steps but I was unable to complete step 2 (Garmin upgrade).
I followed all the instructions, tried with different SD card but nothing happened.
Do you have any hint for me?

How big can be the map mini SD? I was able to use the 2015 maps but not the 2017 ones using a 32GB SD card, maybe I need to buy an (GB sd card?

Bluetooth Software Update - version 4.0
Navigation Software - verion 2.52
I just put the 2015 maps from the google drive upload and it works fine for me.
I'm going to test tomorrow with the latest maps from http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/ using osm_generic_gmapsupp.zip and the newer style

Both files work fine from a SDcard formatted with fat 32.
It's much faster, tho i'm unsure if that is the SDCard as it's a class 10, or the maps are smaller in size (the inbuilt is europe where as these maps are just UK)

I've just bought a car with this Kenwood in, and it has very old maps.
When I wanted to update them, I found that both Kenwood and Garmin dont support it anymore :confused:
But I see there is hope, unfortunately Im not good at it, so I need to have it step by step as a kid with no references :)
I have, not quit sure how, updated the software to vers. 1.4.0
I cant get the BT updated, and if I download the maps from "open..." to a SD Card, nothing happens when I start it up, and it still only have the Garmin EU 2010?
My data at the moment:
Kenwood DNX520VBT
Multimedia Software Update - version 1.4.0
Bluetooth Software Update - version 3.60
Navigation Software - version 2.20 (I think...)
Map version - CN Europe NT 2010.20
SD Card - ScanDisk Extreme Plus 32Gb HC1 V30 U3 A1
I would like to have maps from 2018 or newer, if possible.
First plan was a RDC-330/360 from Aliexpress, but a friend said that it would give me more problems, than just using Google maps on my phone.
Hope you can guide me...

i also dont know for sure that is the only thing malfunctioning, it is just the most noticeable
by the way, it was having issues with the sub before i messed with anything

Hi, I know this is an old thread..
Im trying to update my Kenwood DNX520VBT.
Ive tried downloading the 1.4 file from kenwood, I unzip and it shows a .ruf file and .img file.
I have tried to burn this using nero & imgburn but they both say invalid file.
So does anybody happen to have the img file that works, preferably the latest version which I assume is the (now) dead link above.
