I would like to upgrade my RCD300 to a newer system (either the RCD510 or a RNS system). Can anybody advise me on the best place to start on finding a system, then fitting it?
Many Thanks

eBay is a good place lots of units for sale on there... Need to be careful what your buying though...
Or you could go to a company that does retrofits but it's going to be a more costlier option...
You may also have to factor in the price of upgrading your CANBUS module depending on the year of your car (Flat battery if you don't!)...
Also a DAB aerial if the unit needs it...
Or you could go down the route of a Kenwood DNX521/525 OEM looking and just a straight swap over, no need to upgrade CANBUS either

Thanks! I have sat on ebay and also checked gumtree daily to find a decent RNS510 and and seeing roughly £350+ for the unit. But am confused by software version, item a,b,c - h etc etc

Which rns510 will fit my MK5 2005/55 plate golf without canbus upgrade/battery drain? Or am i better off getting a canbus upgrade anyways? And after getting canbus upgraded can i choose any system?

If yours is a 05/55 then it definitely will need upgrading...
Yes if it's done then you can fit all the latest VW headunits. The newer RNS510's have LED screen also some have DAB...

:happy2: Right! So a canbus upgrade AND an RNS510 is on my shopping list... I've seen a system but where can i find a canbus ?? :scared:

Get in touch with Eddie-NL a member on here - he'll precode you a new one so its plug and play :happy2:

Thanks! Alot of people on here have said that. How much should i be looking to pay for a decent, newish version of the RNS510? The prices vary sooo much

Again ask Ed if he's got any for sale if not what you need to look out for in model types, specification and firmware etc.

Need some advice please! Which version of the RNS510 should i be looking at? I have seen a few on ebay/Guntree locally which are 'Q' or 'P' but unsure as to which one i should go for

Q or P versions are almost identical. I think the only real difference might be the P version comes from factory with firmware 5238 and the Q version with another a bit older firmware.
I'd buy the cheapest and in better condition and then upgrade it to 5274 modified version.
-
Great! So i have seen a 'P' version with software v5238 which i am going to buy (hopefully!
) I am also in the process of ordering a new updated CAN gateway from @Eddie_NL - next i will need both those installing
i am in Gloucestershire if anyone knows anyone in and around this area? If not, i am willing to travel to Bristol/Wiltshire/even up towards Worcester/Birmingham if needs be! Anyone?!

Is something like this ok?

Also, what would i need to buy apart from this unit to get Bluetooth and/or DAB?

To have DAB you need to buy a DAB version. For BT you need to buy a BT kit. Check carsystems.pl or the For Sale section.

So i can add Bluetooth to a RNS510 at a later date, but i cant add DAB later, it has to be "DAB on arrival"?" ?

I can supply bluetooth unit for right price, and you could get the loom from Eddie. Will be cheaper and quicker. Cheers.

Right guys, i am a little confused at the moment if you can help me please.
I will tell you my current setup first:
Mk5 55plate tdi dsg
Standard midline display
NO mfsw
Rns510 dab getting fitted in 2 days along with new canbus
New BT module (thanks to @Pashka)
BT loom & mic (thanks to @Eddie-NL)
I can get a highline display cluster reasonably cheap in a few days.
Will there be any benefit of the highline cluster to me?
Will it make a difference to how my Bluetooth will work?
How will i get the Bluetooth to work without mfsw?

Highline cluster shows the nav directions, track listings and phone book/call info
Will it make a difference to how my Bluetooth will work?
Bluetooth will still work via the headunit interface
How will i get the Bluetooth to work without mfsw?
Calls can be placed straight from the headunit using the touchscreen
Nice addition though to have a highline display - and peeps have added the buttons to a non mfsw without too much trouble
I am sure @Eddie-NL (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=2345) can advise accordingly

thanks for the info! Still in two minds about the highline cluster because i have been told that i need a "Polar FIS BT" kit or something for the calls/phonebook/tracklistings to show properly in the highline display?
-
If you don't get the Polar BT/Battery module, you can only control your BT module from the RNS/RCD-510 touchscreen. I preferred to have the whole package, so I got the Polar BT module.
Also, the Polar BT/Battery also corrects the battery drainage problem with older Golfs, so you don't need to upgrade the CAN gateway if you just want a newer radio and BT module.

Oh man! If i knew the polar unit does that and displays on highline, i probably wouldnt have bought the new canbus!
oh well, look on the bright side, saved a but of money for a different mod

The high line dash is a good upgrade and worth doing
