Title: Decat Spacer
Post by: adamhsufc on August 20, 2015, 01:10:27 am
Recently bought an adjustable decat spacer hoping it would take my EML light off, it didn't.
Tried putting some wire wool in there to see if that helped but that didn't either. I know the light comes on because the emissions are too high, its over fueling too, but can it also stay on if the emissions are too low?
Is this a case of adjusting the spacer slightly until I get the right length or have i just got an overly sensitive sensor that needs mapping out?
also, to check if its working will i need to disconnect battery every time and wait for the light to pop up after so many miles or will it be pretty much straight away?
help appreciated, thanks!

Which lambda sensor are you trying to space?

Please tell me its the rear Lambda and not the front one? Have you tried clearing the codes since fitting the spacer?

Are you re-setting the EML light with VCDS?  If not you need to do this. It will store the fault.

Trying to space the rear, one nearest the back of the car! I haven't cleared with vag com no, I unplugged the battery and eml went off for about 100 miles. Does it still mean it's being stored even though it was off for 100 miles?

There will be a stored error code associated with Catalyst efficiency unless you clear it with VCDS.
Wasn't aware that EML goes off if you disconnect the battery.

Hi how do you clear the EML with vcds ,, i have it .. aslo im having the same problem , new sports cat/ down pipe had many codes up on readiness so i bought a spacer and still no joy ... after pulling my hair out i decided to put the stock pipe back on just in case , and the faults  are  still there even though i erased all codes in VCDS, so no im thinking its the lambda sensor  that is sensor 2 bank 1 behind the cat , it would be just my luck that in changing to a new down pipe the sensor decides to pack up at the same time . WE shall see.
Ive tried to find the values for the sensor so i can check in VCDS but i can't so im just6 going to change the sensor tomorrow and see.
Once i get green on Readiness then ill try the down pipe again ,  Im sure im clearing the codes in VCDS but if anyone has suggestions that would help

Thanks

I have found on VCDS that if you use the "clear all errors" after a scan of all control modules then sometimes it does not clear every module.

If you select the specific control module - in this case "Engine" then there is another option to clear the error codes. This usually works with the CEL light for me.  Note that light will only stay off if the error is no longer present.

In the case of the catalyst error the ECU monitors the gases for a perioid of time before deciding wheter cat is below threshold. This is why you might get the CEL light going out for 200 miles every time you reset it.
