Title: Exhaust fitting
Post by: Ricky123 on August 20, 2015, 06:53:47 pm
Evening...

Well I was having a flick threw eBay the other night and I've seen loads of these cheap £250 stainless catback exhausts for the mk5 gti and I noticed one up for auction. I ended up having a bid on it and managed to win the auction with the total coming in at £150 with postage.

At that price I was happy to take a gamble. It arrived today, it was advertised as a unbranded 2.5" system but what actually arrived was a Direnza exhaust and its 2.75" diameter all the way with 3" tail pipes.

It looks very good quality and very happy with it.

The only problem is that I have a 3" decat downpipe on now going into my original exhaust and this new system hasn't come with any sort of adapter.
I need some sort of adapter that will fit the downpipe side and then the cat back side but after looking on the car it looks like it needs be around 4-5 inches long to fit.

Has any had this issue and can point me in the direction of an adapter? Had a look threw eBay and clampco but can't seem to find what I need.

Hello mate,

I've got the Direnza tbe with 3in sport cat and the biggest issue I had was even Direnza don't supply you with an adapter I had to have one fabricated. So the best option is to go to a local exhaust place and ask them if they can make you a step down connector, I used my local powerflow specialist and it cost me £20

Nice one buddy. I was guessing that would be the case. I'll have a search on Google and see what exhaust places are near me.

What does it sound like by the way?

It's nice mate it's very similar to the resonated milltek I had on my old ST. It's got a nice purr in idle and a good roar when giving it some beans

Local places wanted near £50! What a joke

I don't suppose you have a video of what it sounds like @hlcst (http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=11306)

Quick video of mine now it's fitted. Hats of to mij exhausts the adapter fits like a glove and less than £10 delivered! Couldn't be happier.

Mines got a 3" decat, I'll see what it's like after a few miles but I wouldn't mind abit more noise.

Please could you give me a link to the mij part that's needed? Just got a Direnza exhaust and desperate to fit!

Many thanks that's fantastic.

Next cheeky question - Any idea what size I need to order?

I could remove the exhaust from the car and measure but I won't be taking it off until I fit the new one.

Sorry to be a PITA but if anyone could let me know that would be superb please.

Ok so after a bit of research I have found the internal diameter of the Direnza exhaust is 2.75" all the way through which is just about exactly 70mm.

I now just need to know what the internal diameter of the standard cat exit pipe is.

Any ideas anyone please?

Don't have a clue on that bud as I fitted it to a decat downpipe. I think your probably better off with the external diameter as I'm sure the original exhaust slides over the downpipe and you'd get a better fit.

The adapter from MIJ comes in one length only and it was perfect when fitted and didn't need any modification.
