Cool there on my list of things to buy for my ed30
-
wouldn't mind a set of these myself after seeing how OEM they look.
Still hearing all sorts of things though that you won't pass an MOT with them on, is that the case?

Nope they will pass an M.O.T with no problems as long as they are both at the right height
you don't need auto levellers and headlight washers to pass,(iv'e now asked 3 different vw dealers and they all said it would be fine without :jumpmove: :jumpmove: )but i will be getting auto levellers fitted in feb from darren :happy2:
cheers

One of the first mods i did and the difference at night is unreal. Once you have had xenon's there's no going back
-
Thanks guys im well happy with them :happy2:
rubber toe to code the lights you have to go into the central electrics controller 09 and tick xenons with shutters(if wired in)if not tick xenons without shutters :happy2:
cheers

Scott,
Have you run the wires from the Kufatec adapters to the CECM module to enable the Xenon main beams? Or are you running the halogen mains?
Look very good.
-
^^^ I think he was talking about it!
The difference with the xenons on full beam is unbelievable! Like your own sun! :happy2:
-
Some night pics guys :happy2:
the third picture shows the best light without the security light on

Ok thanks a lot mate :happy2:

top job they look spot on
-
One thing i would say is that the front fogs are very yellow now with these xenons :sad1:
is there something i can do with the fogs to get them more white like the xenons?
cheers
scott
-
I think you can get projector fogs with xenon bulbs in them Scott. I think Darren has them. Or you may be able to get whiter bulbs but I dont think you will get them to match!
I have Osram supposedly whiter bulbs in my halogen full beam and next to the xenons they look really yellow! :sad1:
:happy2:
-
The fog bulbs are H1 I believe! Maybe have a look for whiter ones. :happy2:
-
Wouldn't worry about the fogs, they are rarely needed :xmassmiley:
-
Ive got projector fogs, but there still yellow I think its quite a nice contrast next to the xenons. :happy2: Ill get them things priced up Scott
Darren
-
ref fog's, you can buy some LED bulbs that give the same colour burn, 5000k or there abouts, as the xenon's
would improve the look no end.
i think the bulbs are 9005 or 9006 versions
-
Cheers darren
does anyone know if these will fit into my puddle lights
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fo45%2Fscotty-boy_2006%2Fbulbs2.jpg&hash=3246123bf3be0490865e470a54b8240414eaff85)
501 LED Canbus Super Bright White bulbs
cheers
golfman
-
same bulbs mate so should fit :happy2:
-
looking good mate.
with the above bulbs, i had to send mine back as they're too thick.
some say they fit, some dont. in my experience they will distort the 501 holder as they are too thick

Where these for your xenons Jay? Mine went straight in with minimal force!

^^^ I think he was talking about it!
The difference with the xenons on full beam is unbelievable! Like your own sun! :happy2:
I didn't know they functioned as Bi-Xenons? I though they had halogen main beams? Or are there two types of Golf Xenon head lamps?
Also, are Golf Xenons generic for RHD and LHD or do you have to purchase UK spec RHD units?
-

Yep they are all bi-xenons. You have the halogen and xenons for full beam. There is a switch on them to cuts the beam to the other for driving abroad. I am not sure it it makes a proper beam or if it just cuts it off to stop blinding people

I've a feeling that it is the latter as I'm sure I've read before (ages ago) that the switch does not convert LHD lights (i.e. German eBay purchases) to the full UK RHD beam pattern. I'm just looking for 100% confirmation on this. If it is the case, I shall just bite the bullet and buy the units from VW. Assuming of course I cant find a car with Xenons fitted, retro fitting properly is bloomin' expensive job I'd rather avoid!
-
I wouldn't buy from VW mate. I got min for £320 of ebay including the kufatec adaptor. There is a few sets on there now I think! :happy2:
-
I want to be sure they are RHD UK spec (which you can't always be assured of when buying second hand) especially if there is any doubt what-so-ever as to whether the adjusted LHD version create the correct beam pattern. I'm not one for cutting corners or bodging something and 'making do'. I'm more than happy to pay what ever it takes to have a proper, legal UK spec set-up and that'll include washers and levellers. That's not to say I will be paying full price for the parts or to have VW carry out the installation though!
My search for a GTI will resume in ernest in the new year now my Fiancee is fully on board with the idea (she actually brings the insurance down!). I think I might just have to wait for the right car with Xenons to come along... Unless a good deal comes my way. My perfect car is currently sat on Windrush's forcourt in Reading - typically, before Xmas!

yes mate, for my xenons. They just didnt wanna play ball. With the width of them, they also pushed the contact metal away meaning they werent getting power. Autobulbs were good in refunding though! ;)

Look good, shame they are technically illegal and therefore insurance void. Hope no one goes into you and blames your lights mate as your up poo creek.
They need to have washers and auto levelers to be legal (an MOT is not a test of whether you car is legal, it merely tests within set parameters and guidelines to show its road worthy)

I agree to some extent but surely the washers don't actually do much
the auto levellers will stop blinding people but what exactly will a spray of water on the headlights do
cheers

It is due to the fact that the light beam output becomes funny (cant think of technical word) when the headlights are dirty. This is why they have them fitted to keep they clean! I think alot of people find them annoying as they squirt all over the car! I dont think I will be fitting the washers just the levelers! I will use my mitt as the washers! :signLOL: :happy2:
-
Take no notice Scott its your car and this subject has been debated to hell and back and the out come is :P The washers and levellers will be fitted same has mine will be and so will Ollies so if you want to bring your debate to this thread Jules then DONT!
Have a nice xmas
Darren :happy2:

The word you are looking for is scattered.

^^^ Ahhh cheers mate! :signLOL: :santa:
-
Did you fit these yourself? Easy job? Any recoding required, or a straight in and out?
-
On the long list of things to do, they look ace! :happy2:
No open door pics though! :sad1:
-
I think Scotts got out of that habit Greenouse
Coding is needed Al just to make the car aware that xenons are fitted, the central electrics can then give the lights a constant 12v rather than the standard lights only receiving a pulse 12v.
